Just dropped into a game that had both [REDACTED] on my team.

It also had a spammer for a certain other game.

The game immediately decended into a Teamkilling fest.

I was killed before seeing how working with devs in game was.

My commando died, no shots fired. No armour.

[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] did their best to stop the attrocities.

[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] disconnected soon after. ([REDACTED] had died, I think [REDACTED] crashed)

We are I believe about to lose two users.

ATTENTION:
I apologise to [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], I have since been aware of another thread which had the same people involved, and a similar incident. I can understand why the other user concerned was shaken by it.

Yeah it takes a special kind of dumb to TK a dev... Or a team that the devs are on.

Now during a game like the recent hunt i can understand it... it is all fun and games any way but to just randomly TK on a normal team i feel is like rolling the dice with your stones as collateral.

Those dev-accounts are probably fake and started the shooting. See this thread for more information:

Hey, I killed Paul in a game (he was on the enemy team).

He put it down to co-ordination, and combined tactics. Reality was he was in a K2 alone, and we were doing a baserush. I was worried he might slow down our assaults which were slow ebough. Never knew the pilot until just after.

Irony was that when someone had suggested a plan earlier, I had jokingly stated "Kill Paul". Funny how things can turn out.

The irony in my being TK'd was the posting earlier today about TK stats. Only my second time I was deliberately TK'd though.

Thanks for that, and yes the same people were involved. Things got pretty confusing there when the fire started in the Frozen Colony enclosed dropzone

I apologise to the real Paul and Garth!

Could this be like the exploit in Ender's game the novel where if you put in a person's name with a space or two before or after the name, it shows up as a different user?

i had the same situation with the "supposed" developers and was personally TK'd by "Paul" after defending myself from the same spammer from the "other" game. (the thread highlighted above is mine)

i suspect (and sincerely hope) that the "devs" were being impersonated. because if it's the other way around, and those 3 are dropping as a group (because it happening more than once is beyond circumstance), then i have zero faith in this game and PGI.

Either way, i would have expected PGI to have taken steps to prevent their own staff from being impersonated in game and this only highlights the minimal attention that anti-abuse has gotten during the game design/development process.

To be fair Noodlesoup, it is Sunday, and nearly all staff have Sundays off.

In fact, I doubt the support desk is manned in a small company.

I do have concerns that Pilot names can be so easily duplicated too. If so, then they've got a real security issue on their hands. Given reputation is important in a community, high profile pilots may be targetted, and not just devs.

This one could be criminal too, since it is essentially ID theft.

Technicaly we are still in the design and development process. Finding and preventing such expoits is exactly what an open beta is for.

As I can not find other users with a tricked out name, like the one I did in your thread Noodlesoup, I suspect some other trick, that needs to be sorted out. My guess is, it would be a save bet, that this will get high priority as soon as the PGI staff gets back into office on monday morning.

There is a reason that those trolls come out on weekends and that is the long reaction time until there can be something done against them.

There is a Paul Inouye account that is the actual Paul, but there probably are fake ones too.

Oh my goodness small world, never thought that little drama made it to the forums.

Personally I don't think those are the dev. And part of me IS hoping they are so they get the first hand experience of how lame things can get.

On the side note, the enemy team didn't quite took powered down mech as a sign of surrender, and proceed in mowing down the rest of us promptly he he.

yea, small companies cannot usually afford 24x7 support staff early on, but i do know the community moderators are on, and in a start-up environment, everyone is always "on-call".

I don't expect anything to be fixed overnight, but i did want to vent on the forums, and i'm glad i'm not the only one who had this extremely disturbing experience.

I think you may have had a better response if you had named your thread something a little more appropriate to the situation, not just "I want a refund"

We gotta find these team killing scoundrels. They have to be brought to justice! They can AFK, or suicide farm, or hack my e-mail, but I will be DAMNED if we let them get away with being on the wrong team when they shot my mech!

Teamkilling someone else's mech and slightly inconveniencing them for 5 seconds is the worst possible thing you can do to another human being on the internet.

Community moderators don't have any power over in-game events whatsoever. They cannot find the truth, they cannot ban players and they can't really do anything beyond have a bit of control over the forums. I think PGI can't even do as much as some think they can since all the support is handled by IGP, their publisher.

You got trolled by some clowns with pretend dev accounts so you make a thread hugely exaggerating the issue and demand they drop everything and fix some minor name issue that has no actual impact on gameplay? The devs accounts don't even do anything different to normal users, theres not much to gain by impersonating them. Golds acting hysterical over something minor like this just encourages more trolling. You even think it might be a crime? Seriously? Did you do something crazy like giving them your credit card and bank details over team chat to buy a mad cat? No? I doubt any law enforcement officials care you got griefed in an online game. Making a thread like his is the worst thing you could do, you could just have discreetly reported them, instead they're likely laughing at this thread and planning to do it again.

It's more a commercial issue. We are dealing with Canadian law enforcement too. Who knows what they do?

Odd thing about law enforcement, they may go after crimes just to make an example, or to be able to say "we caught hackers".

And I did say "could" as I wasn't sure.

It's not a big thread, and it is in the appropriate area, General Discussion. It was also educational as other users experienced the same thing, so people are made more aware of the issue, and can respond appropriately if faced with it.

Yep, lets send the mounties to go arrest people who teamkill on MWO. I can't see how this could go wrong at all.

It's not the question of the TK.

It's a question of impersonating developers in their own game that gets them into trouble. Doing so threatens PGI's reputation, and possible sales. As proof they have one request for a refund already.

As I said, not my local cops, so who knows what they've been told to clamp down on for publicity.

Also depends how seriously Paul and Garth see it as.
