I would first like to apologize, my knowledge of the battletech universe is rather limited. I started a thread about a week ago about whether or not more promotion programs were coming down the line. Several people mentioned that one option was to purchase a hero mech. Besides the custom skin and cbill bonus what is the advantage of a hero? Does it have better/more hardpoints or something of that nature? I'm not interested in the Wang but may check into the phract hero. Also does the experience for the hero count towards chassis experience?

Wang has different hardpoints. Some would argue that it is inferior to other Centurions, others rather like the build. The hero 'phract seems to be similar, three ballistics is a nice option, but not necessarily better or worse than the other variants.

Hero mechs have unique hardpoints. Not necessarily better (many would call the YLW's hardpoints worse) but they are hardpoint layout/number not available elsewhere.
The YLW has some unique features: A Centurion that can mount an AC-20 in the arm(AC-20 plus XL engine), and has bonus turn rate.
The CTF-IM has unique hardpoints (3 ballistic 3 energy) and we don't know what else.

Its about variety and buying a mech that isnt available to anyone else that doesn't shell out the MC. It is certainly not P2W as they have their downsides as well as upsides.
You get a mech with a odd name, unique skin and unique Hardpoints.
Well it is unique until you notice how many other players own one too
