I've been playing centurions a lot lately, and I almost never fail to kill SOMETHING with it....

Nah...You just have to find what works for you. For instance, I can't drive an assault to save my life. Just no good at it. I need the speed provided by smaller mechs. I don't get as many kills as people who CAN drive an atlas, but I have more fun, which means less frustration, which leads to playing better.

Well, you can usually shoot at the same 2 or 3 enemies...

Happy to hear you're successful, though.

This happens to me every time I pilot a new mech..Im always a clutz trying to figure out weapon loads and reprogram my firing fingers. Then that switch goes off and I start getting kills and staying alive...well most of the time ha

Like them both, always seem to better in them than with any other mech (pretty much anything that isn't the Catapult, Cicada, or assault-class). Always seems to have the right mix of mobility, survivability and firepower (a little like the Hunchback, but the vast majority of my firepower isn't concentrated in a huge bullseye on my shoulder).
-D runs an Ultra AC/5 + 2 tons ammo, ER Large Laser, 2x SSRM2s + 1 ton ammo, a BAP and an XL 300 engine.
-AL runs 3x Large Laser, 2x SSRM2 + 1 ton ammo and a standard 200 (looking to get an XL 245) + DHS. Really easy to manage heat on.

I know that feeling, congratulations on finding the build that works for you. You will always do better in something that "feels" right, even if it isn't min/maxed to the gills.

This story is repeated again and again with most of my mechs, the C4 with 2 SRM4 and 2 SRM6 with an XL 300 and 2 MPL was like taking candy from a baby, that thing popped every mech in sight with ease. My C1F with 4 ML and 2 LRM 20's and an XL 300 going 80 KPH and bringing LRM hell wherever mechs are sold while still out running some lights and most med's.
So much fun to find a good build on mech after mech. All it dose it take a little bit of time and practice to find yours. Only you can stop
NOTE: All mechs are with DHS as you should never leave home without it.

You might have done, people often don't get better at things in a linear fashion. You'll be awful for ages with no discernible improvement and then suddenly something clicks and you get good. I had that, but replace 'good' with 'passable'.
I gotta say though, I love it when a build comes together.
