You know I've been playing since Closed beta and I never really found a build that worked for me. I tried missle boats, lasers, ACs, Gauss and most of the origonal mechs and I never could find a combination I was actually good with until tonight! Used to I would get mabey a kill a week if I was lucky and with my Cent I got five tonight and two in one match! Such a feeling of accomplishment can actually change one's perspective on a game like this!

I had this feeling while mastering my commando (I committed to mastering the first mech I bought), until I realized that I was playing it wrong. Once I quit worrying about damage dealing, and started focusing on scouting, the sky cleared and the angels sang. I even started doing more damage, and even getting some kills.

A change in perspective is everything.

What kind of centurion are you running?

I've been playing centurions a lot lately, and I almost never fail to kill SOMETHING with it....

I'm running an AL with 4 mlasers and two srm6s simple build but i seem to utilize it more effectively then my other builds. I think its just luck but I've been taking down Atlases with it.

Yes that is what I felt when I slapped 6 SSRM2's on a catapult and became a legendary war hero.

Good at the game? It was more like an on/off switch...mabey I needa figure out how to keep that switch in the on position! And actually I stopped being a stupid pug and actually read some stuff in the forums like focus fire >.> not that you can really focus fire with a swarm of SRMs...

Nah...You just have to find what works for you. For instance, I can't drive an assault to save my life. Just no good at it. I need the speed provided by smaller mechs. I don't get as many kills as people who CAN drive an atlas, but I have more fun, which means less frustration, which leads to playing better.

Well, you can usually shoot at the same 2 or 3 enemies... :)

I've committed to mastering the Cicada, but the three variants (I don't count the 2B since its the 2A just with lasers in the arms instead of the torso) all play so differently. I've found an AMAZING build for my 3M, a decent one for my 2A, and still working on one for the 3C.

Happy to hear you're successful, though.

I haven't even mastered this set yet I got one of the cheap variants done and lack two skills on the AL before I buy the asspensive one I could buy a really nice Heavy mech for that 8mil x.x but this AL I shal keep and paint it fancy collors and wish I had actually given it a name when I bought it instead of CN9-AL x3

Yea looks as if you crushed through a wall ..starting to get movements down to reaction, instead of thinking about them :)

This happens to me every time I pilot a new mech..Im always a clutz trying to figure out weapon loads and reprogram my firing fingers. Then that switch goes off and I start getting kills and staying alive...well most of the time ha

Centurion is definitely my favourite mech, currently got two (-D and -AL).

Like them both, always seem to better in them than with any other mech (pretty much anything that isn't the Catapult, Cicada, or assault-class). Always seems to have the right mix of mobility, survivability and firepower (a little like the Hunchback, but the vast majority of my firepower isn't concentrated in a huge bullseye on my shoulder).

-D runs an Ultra AC/5 + 2 tons ammo, ER Large Laser, 2x SSRM2s + 1 ton ammo, a BAP and an XL 300 engine.
-AL runs 3x Large Laser, 2x SSRM2 + 1 ton ammo and a standard 200 (looking to get an XL 245) + DHS. Really easy to manage heat on.

I know that feeling, congratulations on finding the build that works for you. You will always do better in something that "feels" right, even if it isn't min/maxed to the gills.

I've mainly been running a K2, but recently switched to a C1... and decided that I wanted for giggles to try it out with no missiles, like my K2. I'm running around now with a 300 xl engine, jump jets, 19 DHS, Endo, and my only weaponry is 3 Large Pulse Lasers and it's the most fun build I've ever run. Sometimes it's viciously effective, sometimes I get completely destroyed, but I can run like a scout and hit like a brawler, and with the exception of my huge head hitbox, take the hits I get back. It's a fun freaking build and I love it.

Did that with my hunch 3GF, never found a good build on it till I ran an AC/5 and 2 large lasers on it (started thinking like an Atlas). Thing ran beautifully, and with speed twek going 73 kph was very nice to boot. Ran that for a while doing quite nicely until I swapped it back to its default config (was in an AC20 mood that day), and with just the AC20 and 2 med lasers (never.....EVER...use that POS small in the head). It was like heaven parted the mechs for me, things were dieing left and right to the twang of the AC20. Now I run it like that with 3-4 tons of ammo depending if I want a TAG/ML in the head or some more ammo. Eng in it is a STD 210, not all that much bigger then the 200 that came stock in it.

This story is repeated again and again with most of my mechs, the C4 with 2 SRM4 and 2 SRM6 with an XL 300 and 2 MPL was like taking candy from a baby, that thing popped every mech in sight with ease. My C1F with 4 ML and 2 LRM 20's and an XL 300 going 80 KPH and bringing LRM hell wherever mechs are sold while still out running some lights and most med's.

So much fun to find a good build on mech after mech. All it dose it take a little bit of time and practice to find yours. Only you can stop Forest Fires Trolls.

NOTE: All mechs are with DHS as you should never leave home without it.

Ahhhh good feels bro, good feels. I agree with the sentiment expressed above, finding a build that you like and feels right will always give you better success and more satisfaction than one that is min/maxed by some sort of algorithm. I found a build that worked for me and I love like a month and a half ago, still running with it and I see no reason to change it.

I feel three of the five mechs I own are just right. My AS7-k and K2 just are just not there yet.

You might have done, people often don't get better at things in a linear fashion. You'll be awful for ages with no discernible improvement and then suddenly something clicks and you get good. I had that, but replace 'good' with 'passable'.

I gotta say though, I love it when a build comes together.

...is overshadowed by the feeling I get 30 minutes later when I realized I wasted 3 million c-bills and go back to the original build
