If you are going to be on an 8 man premade, and playing vs other 8 man premades, do you want the match to have a tonnage limit, or do you prefer a free-for-all style.

"The new 8-player group system DOES NOT have a Mech weight class balance requirement. It will be up to the player base to determine what Mech classes they wish to drop with."

I hope you have something coming up in regards to this sooner rather than later such as... a tonnage limit?

Did you really think this is what premade teams wanted? A total unbalanced free-for-all??

Add in a tonnage limit for 8vs8 premades. I suggest 500 tons.

I seem to recall PGI saying that they wanted things to be even between 2 teams equipment wise, so that the only deciding factor was skill. Well that is exactly what a tonnage limit does. And BV system would also.

This 8vs8 premade FFA does not promote that sentiment.

Welcome to Jenner/Atlas/Catapult Online.

I completely agree with a tonnage limit. In fact, I think this is the ideal way to handle the situation. 500 Tons is even a good starting place.

Already complaining about a feature you haven't even tried yet? Why don't you actually play the game before making these kinds of threads? There's no way to know if this will work or not since it isn't even in the game yet.

Well, i really do not see a problem here.
If some premades wants to go only as lights -> they should.
When they are placed against all Atlas teams that will be a fun experience, and i mean that really serious.
Should be fun for both teams. :)

If you want to attack a planet, do you really know which kind of mechs are defending? A premade should be able to deal with it.

Your upcoming ELO system wont make for a balanced game in regards to what players bring to a match, or does it?

Actually yes, I want an unbalanced 8 vs 8. I want that enemy team to bring big slow mechs if I happen to be running around in my fast Raven.

Unbalanced drops should at least be tested again. I think with the addition of ECM it won't all be assaults and heavies.

If this turns out to be a problem then maybe a tonnage limit would be the answer but unrestricted drops should be done to determine if there are any balance issues with mechs.

If you can't tell that this is a bad idea that promotes abusive play at a cursory glance then I don't know what to tell you. :-/

no limits please, let the teams decide what works best for them and let them use it

got stomped by team of jenner? get a streakcat or 2 in yours... it will be about taking the right mixture of mechs into the fight and teams will get used to it

I know it's going to make for some un-fun games, however, I think implementing 8v8 with no balancing mechanic is going to be the only way to gather real data about what is actually OP.

I bid two Elementals and a basket of fruit. 2.001 tons.

In all seriousness, I think we should see how it plays out. I'm kinda ambivalent at the moment.

7xAtlas DDC, 1xCatapult A-1.

There is the optimal team...

Tonnage caps (or more ideally, BV, but I'll settle for tonnage for now) will hopefully be present when community warfare comes in, for battles with consequences. As long as the battles don't have consequences, it is less of an issue. Presumably everyone in an 8-man knows they could face anything, and they should prepare accordingly.

Until a team with 8 ECM equipped mechs fights them?

Also, have fun against a team of snipers hitting from outside LRM range.

I think ECM will really change the balance of the game and a team that uses it right will be difficult to stop if your team relies too much on missiles.

I was thinking at least a couple of CDA-3Ms for lag-shielded ECCM/TAG so your D-DCs can rain missiles with impunity. Definitely the "noob slayer" build.

The D-DC can have ECM and TAG.

The D-DC can have ECM and TAG.

But could they get close enough to use the TAG against a faster team with ECM?

TAG has a 450 meter range.

I was thinking the D-DCs would be streak brawlers using their ECM to enable EZ-mode streak usage in those missile hardpoints.
