It doesn't take a machine with an onboard nuclear power plant to play this game, but you CANNOT EXPECT ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE out of technology that's pushing 8 or 9 years old guys [dual core] 32 bit O/S? Vista 64 was released in 2007. *2007* That's 5 years ago. 64 bit programming has been well established and is now not only fully supported. . but the only real game left in town since XP hit EoL. It brings HUGE system performance gains and allows your computer to access more than 3.2 Gig ram. Computers are not consoles, and I resent the fact that you think the game should be stripped back to a 1992 solid color polygon type game with 800 x 600 monochrome graphics just so you can play it on your outdated pocket calculator.

For the rest of you, when was the last time you ran disk cleanup? Defrag?

updated your graphics drivers to the latest and greatest from the manufacturer's website?

Running Norton or McAffee? [HUGE performance drains on those, there are many better, free alternatives:

After this, if you're still running a quad core or higher and a decent GFX card, if you're still having problems, head on down to the hardware part of the forums and let us know, and we will see what we can do to help you out.

And for the last time, CUT PGI some slack, THEY'RE WORKING ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They want your money, I can assure you! They don't WANT you to be all upset and emo and run off QQ'ing to all your friends. .t hey want you all here addicted to their money making love-child. What you may not realize is that some things that look like simple changes can require MASSIVE code rewrites to implement, and then you have to make sure it doesn't cause any OTHER problems with the rest of the code, and then if you do, you have to balance THOSE out. . .

[disclaimer: I do not work for PGI. i *DO* work for a company that develops hardware and software in house, and explaining issues due to "software in development" is part of my job description. As a result, I understand intimately just how much of a P.I.T.A. even simple changes can be. if I seem like I'm biting everyone's heads off it's because I used up all my patience explaining it politely to our customers over. . and over. . and over. . . .]

Game ran perfectly for me under closed beta, but nowadays the game is borderline unplayable for me with fps dipping often under 10 fps.

My specs are :

Core2 E8400 running @ 3.9GHz
Ati Radeon HD 6950 with 1 GB ram
8 GB system ram
Running Windows 7 64 bit

Your friends computer (more specifically the graphics card) is not powerful enough to run the game. Get a more powerful computer

Somewhere along the line (last patch or next to last, not sure) my FPS did go down to the point I was beginning to give up on the game due to its being virtually unplayable. My top FPS was 45ish(i.e. before the match started) but as soon there was another mech onscreen, or I was turning, it would drop, In heated combat it would drop down to 10-20. Changing the graphics setting presets did little to nothing; between Low and Very High I would see an average FPS change of about 10. I recently installed 8 GB more RAM (total=16 GB), but at the same time was feeling inspired and overclocked the CPU at little. The result was far more than I had expected. My processor is an i3-2120(3.3 GHz, dual core) and the graphics card is a Radeon 6870. Tweaking the BCLK setting by 2.5 MHz, locking the processor multiplier at max (x33), and turning off the C1-C6 sleep states resulted in my averaging 50ishFPS and only sometimes momentarily dropping to about 20. The CPU is now +4ͦ C, getting up to 46C under MWO loads, so I'm not too worried about it. I don't know what, if any, of these things did specifically to improve my MWO experience. It could have been magic, gnomes/elves, planet alignment, luck, etc. All the same, the experience is greatly improved for myself.

I also run a registry mechanic (from pctools.com),

I get 35-55 even after the last patch:though sometimes, 21-26 FPS during really busy matches is common

FX-4100 OC'd to 3.9GHz (liquid cooled)
16 GB DDR3 RAM
GTX560 Ti fermi superclocked (arctic cooling twin turbo II cooler) running 2 monitors (game on one screen)
ASUS M5A97 mobo
Win 7 64-bit pro

I'll be playing for a few hours and for no reason i'll drop to ~5fps. I'm running an i7-965 @4ghz w/ 24gb ram (1/2 set to hdd cache), win 7 64, and a 580. My temps never go over 50C and when I exit and restart there's no problem. This is the only game it has problems with. I've also noticed a blank minimap and an amber screen overlay with a darker horizontal stripe in the center on occasion. It runs 60fps constantly until I enter a match every now and then when it just bombs. I'm running 310.70 drivers as well.

Tis in the details. When the 4FPS bug or other issues rears its heads, how many games have you played? And it is for the duration of the match? To clear it up you restart the client? At the moment that particular issue is a memory leak.

bottom line is its the game manufactures job to make a game easy for their customers to play... you shouldnt have to as a customer spend hours trying to figure out how to get a game playable... its not a very good way to make money or to keep players interested if they have to hunt and hunt and hut just to play the game... frankly im a little depressed by this whole issue, i used to play mech warriors as a kid and when i heard about this game i was soo excited... but is it really worth the effort of trying to hunt down every little issue just to get the game playable? i think not... and alot of people who might be valuable customers feel the same way...

im no techy, most people arnt, and you shouldnt have to be one to enjoy this game

I'm glad you dug up an old thread... But you failed to mention what the actual issue you have is.

Back in November, the graphics looked about 1.5 to 2 times better and was running an ENB (further enhancing the graphics) built into the game. That was removed, and the graphics dumbed down a bit for lower end computers with enhancements for higher end computers still on hold because "83%" of MWO's players are on low-end PCs with 2 to 4 core processors, 4 gigs of ram, and barely enough in video card power to run a playstation 1 game.

So. That said, what is the actual issue? Low FPS? What are your specs? Are you on a Toshiba laptop? E-machine?

Yeah, low FPS could be caused by a number of things. I actually upgraded my graphics card a couple months ago and got about 20 fps boost. I have a GeForce GTX 550 Ti now. I had a 400 series before.

This game needs polishing. Every patch it gets screwed for someone. Dont tell me our computers are to blame here couse i noticed 40% FPS drop just by migrating from windows 8 to windows 7 and my machine is the same. NO SLACK for PGI they slack all the time. They are more worried about special hero mech cashmilk events than bug hunting. So I say NO SLACK!

Don't let it get to you. I have a pretty much maxed out system and it still hangs and stutters on MWo. Usually I get decent FPS up in the 60+ range but some maps, some battles, it gets drops into the 20-30s and even gets the 4FPS bug once in a while.

Spoiler

Just wait for the optimization to go into effect and things should be a bit better. Although Crytek just put out the new requirements for this same engine on Crysis 3: http://mwomercs.com/...re-requirments/

I find your choice of Xeon interesting. I wouldn't have thought the server architecture would be optimal for a client.

Does the XP Compatability thing still help on Windows 7? My framerate isn't great, but it's playable, but more is better.

Yeah I do have a duo core machine, and it is 32 bit. However I have 4 MB RAM and a Nvidia 520: 1gig video card. I thought for sure it could handle it.
I also have a CORE i5 machine, and it runs worse than my other computer. Granted it has a crappy video card though.

thanks Wolf, I'll try this tonight - I've tried everything else

Unless you're using a very outdated CPU, or there is a compatibility issue with your CPU, your GPU is far more important to gaming applications than your CPU. You might get better results if you swapped your graphics and RAM into your Core i5, but I don't know - that's an older CPU as well.
