For DCMS players, organise a group on Paladin Brewer's excellent House Kurita site (http://www.housekurita.org/) and do missions together. You can arrange command structure, unit compostition, etc. behind the scenes before you even log in to MW-O. Just because the game doesn't recognise you as a specific unit, doesn't mean you can't function like one.

Personally I'm planning to avoid the mercenary approach because I'd rather see the Draconis Combine grow than be promoted. :)

That's my plan as well. As I said earlier in the thread, I would like to get together with like minded Kuritans and create a Ryuken themed unit.

Inner sphere rank structure looks something like this

4 mechs or 2 Aerospace or 4 tanks = a lance
3 lances = a company
3 companies = a battalion
3 battalions = a regiment
3 regiments = a Division

Correction:
2 Aerospace Fighters = Lance
3 Lances = Demi-Company
2 Demi-Companies = Company.
3 Companies = Wing
3 Wings = Regiment

Also, 3 regiments = Brigade, not a division.
A division is 3 brigades.

Also, the Sword of Light is, apparantly, considered to be a Brigade in strength, being composed of 5 regiments.

Quote

As best I can remember, Divisions don't exist in IS military nominclature.

Officially, the nominclature exists, but is otherwise unused.
Corps and Army are SLDF-only.
The closest thing we'd have to a Corps is the combined force of a military district.

The Sword of Light are 5 independent Regiments with a shared lineage. A Brigade in the current sense would be a reinforced Regiment, more along the lines of a Ryuken or Sword of Light regiment. I.E. a Unit with 3-5 Combat Battalions, an Artillery Battalion, plus Combat Service Support Units, designed to work as a single unit.

In the modern sense, a Division is generally 4 Regiments of Combat units (Armor or Infantry), plus a Artillery Regiment, plus other supporting units (Combat support, Recon, Heavy Artillery Battalion, Aviation support.) These units are then brigaded together to form Brigades (or Brigade Combat Teams, as the U.S. Army would currently call them.)

Sorry about nitpicking about this, but I like to be precise about these things.

The Swords of Light are reinforced regiments each.
4 BattleMech Battalions + supporting units each.

Which is irrelevant when we're talking about 1000 years into the future.

I'm seeing a possibly humorous situation in the making when the game goes live and the DCMS is, hypothetically, primarily comprised of mercenary factions.

The irony will probably kill the Coordinator.

As a Merc unit still together for over 20 years, The Death Dealer Mercenaries always fight & win as a unit, If you need a job we are always giving trials. We offer fair pay & promotions for those that are willing to leave it all on the field.

My wife and I plan on playing together, she'll be command tree, and I will be defence tree, (suited to assisting others in combat/ watching her) I hope people don't try to be like well I'm in company X so that make me the commander here. when they are in a scout mech, with no command components

This is correct.

Only Mercs are known to run a 4-lance company. But, most of them have no Infantry or Tank support.

It is a great Idea for all everyone wh wants to join the Kuritan faction to join a coomon forum. We can have a common Vent. Both the Forum and Vent can be broken down into subsections for the different Companies. Then if one night a company is not running any matchs the plays can hang out in the common area of vent and maybe run random matchs by themselves.

Hai! For the different companies, I believe this has already been done. Although there is only one unit registered there, so far. I do hope that this will change over time.

well, I am just fine with falling in line; after having gathered some experience in the field, maybe taking command of a lance, but not really planning on it tbh
