I have said this before, but my FPS are bad, so I have to play a LRM boat.

My question is, am I totally useless now?
I can still target non-ECM guys that are off running alone can't I?

(I am hoping all the skilled players will be in 8v8 now, and us "PUG only" guys can finally start getting some kills) :P

No.
1) Tag.
2) Counter ECM.
3) Pub stomp.

against a competent (premade) team they have limited value.

You can still be of use but it is very difficult.

You really do need artemis and other modules now to make yourself very effective.

Unfortunately if a ecm mech comes for you then your toast until/if they implement direct fire dumb mode for LRMS.

They still work, but you need a dedicated spotter.

I just ran my Jenner with Tag and had two buddies loaded with LRM15s. I'd call out a target and light them up with TAG from outside of the ECM bubble.

Tag + Artemis completely negate ECM if you play it right. We rolled through the opposition 4 matches in a row whether or not they had ECM.

That being said, you need a team that works and communicates very well together.

It's all about teamwork. I'm sure well see premades killing folks like nobody's business using hamstas suggestion for counters. IMHO most things like lrm boats, streak cats, Steiner scout atlases etc.. Are thwarted by teamwork. As a PUG this is apparent in every battle(due to lack of cohesive teamwork)

You guys are pretty much making the point that if he runs pug ecm has killed his playing style.

Only one thing to do now. Load up on SRMs and go nuts.

Pug matches are full of people that flock to the new best thing so as of right now I would say over half of the people I have played with have it equipped. It feels like CoD with lots of people running scrambler. Targeting and mini-maps are useless!

So yes he may be in trouble till this all dies down.

yea it can still be effective with the right set up and right support but there are much better/more viable builds haven't been hit by a single missile lrm or streak tonight

Get a Atlas D-DC(ECM). Mount standard LRM boat equipement. Add a TAG laser. Stay with the pack to not get eaten by small laser boats. Hope for better fps next patch.

Cat C1 and K2 are the only viable catapults now.

C1 with dual LRM20s, 3 large lasers and 1 Tag.

Dont bother loading Artemis or BAP. A single ECM bubble disables their effects even if you TAG your target.

Forget about long range indirect fire. The devs stupidly removed that from the game. LRMs are now 'medium' range direct fire support. Get inside 450m and fire with large lasers and missile.

It has made my setup with my d-dc god like.

I use

2ML
AC-20
3 SRM-6's
AMS
ECM
BAP

It's funny to be able to sneak up behind a line of enemy mechs and start killing them one at a time.

lol that made me laugh.
What makes you think premades have any more skill than pugs? The only difference is a mic.
If you're not getting kills (not that they really matter) and you think it's because of premades you're in for a shock.

Yeah there are a lot of pug players that wreck, they just chose not to be with groups. The more people you play with does not define individual skill.

Yep, sounds balanced to me - Just another PGI imbalance to add to the list.

it actually is balanced you trade having a very high alpha for being stuck with low heat efficiency, being very ammo dependent, and having nothing longer ranged than an ac20 on your mech.

There's still plenty of mechs without ecms on the field. :P Target those.

if its a team w 1/2 a brain between their 8 pilots they'll shield their non ecm mechs with their ecm equipped ones ;)

I used a 4SP with a TAG and dual Artemis LRMs a bit today to limited success. I was playing mostly 8 V 8 premades, so enemy ECM coverage was well coordinated in each match, but I found that as a mid range support unit the LRMs are still usable. You're no longer a super long range sniper but you can still hit past the effective range of medium lasers into a fur ball.

Honestly my recommendation would be to up the range of TAGs to 500m. I mean I shouldn't have to TAG for myself but it is by no means a shameful tactic to do so.
