So recently the Spider was bumped up to a January 15th release date, which is pretty soonish. What I'm interested in seeing is if this mech will add much to the game. The Sarna article specifically says it's used in rear-line operations and that it's standard build of two medium lasers performs marginally against mechs.
This is the variant list http://www.sarna.net...Spider#Variants
Removing the experimentals and the ones that wouldn't work given the timeline, we are left with fairly undergunned mechs. It has ballistic slots but other than an AC/2 I can see nothing really working here and being viable. Some of them replace a medium laser or two with a long range weapon such as the PPC or large laser but lights typically aren't the best long range mechs.
So I'm curious, does anyone have any ideas to make this mech viable? And more importantly, something the Jenner doesn't do? The Jenner has jump jets, more hardpoints, more armor, and is only slightly slower. One variant of the Spider mounts an ECM suite but this removes a weapon hardpoint.

I don't see it performing all that well or differently than other mechs we already have.
There is a DCMS variant with MG's and a laser.
Still. We already have mechs that do what it can do.

Fix Jump Jets so the Spider can jump the farthest of any mech.

It will be nice to finally have a light with a ballistic arm mount and lower arm actuators.

Won't it be the first mech with ECM and JJ?
