No offense is meant by this to the devs, moderators, admins, etc. But I've been noticing quite a bit of arguing over this video here on the site in the media section

http://mwomercs.com/...deo/3CWr3ZUQJeo

To my knowledge wasn't this the trailer for Mechwarrior 5? Back when it was being developed by Smith & Tinker?

I've seen many people including myself get into arguments over the video saying either " Well if its on here then it must be part of the game" Or " Thats not even the same game, that game isn't being made anymore".

if thats so, then why is that video part of your media? I would respectfully request that it be removed, or somehow given a proper name.

It depicts a mech that has not been announced for MW:O (The Warhammer) , leading people to believe it will be in the game. Others believe that since its "part of a game no longer in production" that it its advertising a mech that probably wont be seen (I'm sure you're aware of the Harmony Gold arguments that arise, but that's besides the point)

What I'm getting at is; Yes I realize that its Battetech related, and is related to MW:O, but it kind of seems like false advertisement, and causes arguments so I ask that someone clear it up with us devoted fans.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that rather than false advertisement, that it's a "hint". Otherwise, there would be cease and desist orders filed and they'd have to take it down. So... fingers crossed.

Well hopefully I wont get a crap storm from posting this.

Im pretty sure we would like to see the Warhammer, but I'd like a little clarification. Since as I stated, several, ifnot more arguments have been over that video.

Perhaps those three vids can be dropped into their own folder...?

The video is a remnant of the original game announcement for what at the time was considered "MechWarrior 5." You really should take a look at Dev Blog 0, where they discuss the trailer and the events surrounding it.

From what I've read, the OP is understandably concerned for those who will come across the MW:O forums and see those videos without fully understanding the context.

But as I stated the video is from Mechwarrior 5, not MW:O. And while that Blog does give some insight into the development of the company, and the game it doesn't really address the questions of "why is a different game advertised?", "why is there content (the warhammer) displayed, and yet not officially announced".

Say a random forum member, a new one, attracted by the new trailers comes by. "Whats this a trailer from 2009? A warhammer? why is not in the official artwork for the game?" "wait thats not the same game? but why is it here on this website?"

Or lets say someone who saw the initial trailer back when it was owned by Smith & Tinker, is browsing by and sees the new trailers, artwork etc. "well why is the warhammer being shown in that one video from 2009, and not in anything else? is it in or out? is it legal or not legal? whats going on? and no answers are really given other than "harmony gold has nothing to do with any time spent developing the game"

another scenario would be take a person who became interested in the game, and yet somehow has no knowledge of battletech whatsoever. The time it would take to explain the situation/context to that person, would be better spent having the video just not be there, or put into a special archive and explained so that it may be easily shown to people as not being part of MW:O.

There are numerous threads that have at some point or another had this video linked in them, thus causing arguments over whether or not its the same game.

Don't worry, you'll get over it. Stick around, talk to people, read some stuff. By then, you'll be GLAD you have some old media of things that currently are not. Wait long enough and every topic possible will roll by at least six times.

I actually think there is still a lot of relevance to that video; the context is correct, elements like the battle grid and what not are still present and the Atlas still looks vicious.

all that said, there are now some clearly marked in-game videos, so even if the poor whelps were confused by the mech5 video, the in-game footage would surely clarify the situation for them?

This is another round of "Omg that video is nothing like the game they are saying". That was released in 2009 as a promo to attract a publisher to the original project. It was called Mechwarrior and it was originally conceived to be a standard PC/Xbox sp and mp game and reboot of the franchise.

Its evolved into MWO. That video as very little to do with MWO.

Enjoy it for a UT3 demo of MW and move on. MWO is quite different. There is no legal issue. There is no "false advertisement" or any attempt to deceive. It represents the direction the game *didnt* go.

I think you may be confused as to what an advertisement actually is.

Hint: Nowhere has Piranha advertised that video as being about MW:O.

I know it's a little pedantic, but this video was never intended to be a trailer for Mechwarrior 5, since the trailer is set almost 45 years before any other MW Game (including mech assault) This was intended to be a full on series wide re-boot, which evolved into Mechwarrior online (mostly due to funding issues).

As an aside if you can scratch together a few million I gather the developers will still develop the game, just for you. If I had several billion to invest this would be one of my worthy causes. Right along side the British Skylon project. It's all for the betterment of mankind.

Then why is it present at this point in time?

also I did not say anything about a legal issue, or an attempt to deceive. I merely stated its falsely representing the game MW:O, with a lack of information.

yea I could "shut up" but I have a valid point. The video doesn't represent MW:O, last time i checked this was MW:O forums not the "MW:O& Dead Relatives Forum", therefore is not necessary.

if it wasn't there, arguments wouldn't arise over it, and neither would this thread.

I dont want a lawsuit, neither have I suggested it, and nor do I want a single penny taken from the devs.

Given the opportunity I'd throw harmony gold into a dumpster, and hand over the keys to a skyscraper full of money to Piranha.

I have nothing of value to add to this post besides displaying my complete and utter dismay at the OP. I mean really?
This isn't even up for negotiation. Please read the Dev blogs for more information. There is nothing falsely being advertised. The very point of the matter that your bothering to bring it up show that you yourself do not understand what the true false advertising is.

No... Just no.

Edit: Because I feel the need to add yet MORE obvious information. Those videos are there to show the process which the game has come from. Pure and Simple. I'm not sure what you trying to do. But its kinda ******* me off.

I really don't understand what your issue with this is. Even after reading all these posts.

Fair enough but there has been no confirmation that the unseen (or re-seen) are not to be in the game, I wouldn't get your hopes up but I also wouldn't declare a 2-3 year old concept video 'false advertising'. It's included to show development in-context. I think it's fair to say most of us watching the development of the game have really appreciated the opportunity to re-visit how this all happened, as a designer myself I like to see the genesis of ideas, which this shows.

I'm sure we all know to take developmental material with a pinch of salt too. ;-)

Hold tight till release, who knows you may be pleasently surprised, even if the unseen aren't there ;-)

Think of it as a trailer....which it was.

Does this video represent Mechwarrior 4 gameplay? No. Is it part of Mechwarrior 4? Yes.
