After building a suberb Raven (3L), speed is something I am not willing to give up.

I noticed that with speed tweak, you could get Centurion to run around 140kph. I have never seen this in game either, which meant - I will have to do it. :)

Fastest Centurion is CN9-D.
Now to find out the largest XL engine it can fit...I know you can get at least XL350.

Which Centurion model can fit the largest XL Engine? I mean, Raven 3L is only model that goes above XL245 (up to XL295). There's no way to see it before you buy the mech, thus I need to find it out somehow...

Next question would be:

How much extra tonnage & room do I have with endo + the largest XL Engine - for weapons?

Max is XL 390, your speed will be 126kph. You will have 9 tons for weapons. Critical slots don't play a factor because you don't have the tonnage and the hardpoints.

Thanks a lot! That 9 tons is with endo and full armor?

No you won't have full armor. You will have the stock armor, which is 272 points (I don't know what the max is, but it seems to be maybe 1/6 short).

But was that with endo or am I getting +2.5 tons more via that?

My Raven 3L has 197 points of armor (Ferro, some stripped from head/hands/legs) with 12.5 tons (endo) of free space for weapons + sinks. And that's with the largest XL295 available.

ECM takes 1.5t, leaves 11t.
3x ML, leaves 8t.
2x SSRM (3t) with 2 tons of ammo, leaves 3t.
3x double sinks take the last 3t.

When comparing that Raven to Centurion, the Centurion seems awfully low on PROs:

- Bit sturdier

Plenty of CONs though.

- MUCH larger target
- Slower than Raven
- Cannot carry ECM
- Seems to have at tops the same amount of free space for gear
- Energy hardpoints on torso

If it had closer to ~17t free space, it could be.

Wonder what's the "best speed to tonnage" engine Centurion can be fitted?

It's with endo ofc. I can read your requirements, so obviously I calculated it in :).

Looks like a very bad setup with the largest XL then. *points the calculation above*
Can I bother you with some of the XL engine tonnages?

Would like to compare which would suit best for the speed - or is the Centurion "a gimped" mech as it is :D

The larger engines in a centurion are a good example of diminishing returns.

For my D, I find the best return comes at an XL300 engine, endo steel, double heatsinks, and ferro armor.

You can load a Gauss rifle w/ 20 shots, 2 medium lasers, and 2 ssrm 2's w/ 100 shots into the mech at that point. Gives you more firepower than most things in its weight class, and with speed tweak, still goes around 107KPH.

Very expensive to run though... repair bills upwards of 130-140k. If they ever implement weight limit drops, however... its going to be my go-to medium.

You could drop down to an XL380 run, DHS, Endo, FF. 2xML, 2xSRM6 (4 tons of ammo), 123 KPH (132 KPH w/ST). 40 Alpha, 1.22 HE, 288 Armor.

I like the stock 300 XL as well. Even without speed tweak it is FAST! You give a shock to basically everyone. Lights are surprised you keep up and other mechs dont stand a chance. All the maps have some cover so you can really weave. I have lost this mech only a few times. Much better survivability than my other mediums.

This Excel!

I MUST HAVE IT! :P

Anyways, that looks very viable with 380.

That XL300 is just way too slow.
I've been playing with this 146.8kph Raven and I know exactly the difference to ~100ish. It's those "last extra kphs" that really matter, making the dodging much easier. And surprice turns etc.

FYI as well the CN9-D comes with Endo Steel already done, the XL 300 engine and ARTEMIS preinstalled.

Oh, that's good to know. Does Artemis effect SRMs? How about SSRMS? I have no idea. :(

Thanks! The Excel refused to work, although I enabled the macros. No idea.

Now the question is to download Java or not. :)

Artemis does affect SRM (tighter missile cluster) with zero effect on SSRMs

for your engine speed:weight:rating, you refer to this chart courtesy of Ohmwrecker

Valid options seem to be:

XL 340: 110.2kph for 20.5 tons (~121kph with speed tweak)
XL 360: 116.6kph for 23.5 tons (~128kph with speed tweak)
XL 380: 123.1kph for 27.5 tons (~135kph with speed tweak)

I would not pick lower than XL340.

Even with XL340 and Endo, I cannot properly fit even 2x ML, 2x SSRM and UAC5 or LBX10.
Missing ammo for the UAC5/LBX10. Even with some armor strips from head/hands/legs...

I think I am forced to pursue a different mech here. Damnit. :)

use 2 x machine gun (seriously) 1 ton of ammo and concentrate on missile and laser hardpoints, trust me it works... use MPLas instead of MLas for more punch and SRM6 + artemis.

this build is the same concept as my CN9-D build i posted in the forums, just drops the 1 SRM6 hardpoint and makes up for the lack of 6 more missiles with its speed... it also helps that artemis makes the 12 missiles hit more accurate and at longer range.

Still, very similar to the speed Raven I already have.

I actually fell in love with Awesome AWS-9M now. :)
This guy hits HARD.

77kph (84kph with speed tweak)
57 dmg alpha strike
432 armor (stripped from arms & legs, down to around ~45 each)
38.59% heat efficiency (using the Java-based mech builder)

Each slot of the space used.

XL380
Endo
18x Double Heatsinks (4 need to be placed outside the engine)
3x Large Lasers
1x Medium Laser
1x SRM6 (2 tons of ammo)
2x SSRM2 (2 tons of ammo)

yea i don't mean to say that putting machine guns on ballistic hardpoints is a new concept or something, anyone looking to maximize their firepower would probably go that route.

personally i find ballistic hardpoints are best set like that and concentrating on missile and laser hard points.

this is my very favorite mech. I have been running it since the first day the chassis was available. my load out in brief:
XL 370 engine = top speed 119.8 (lab) 128.9 (speed tweak)
2x SRM6 in Left Torso with 3 tons of ammo (no Artemis)
2x MedLas in center torso
12 double heat sinks = 1.34 heat efficiency (I almost never have heat problems)
Ferrofibrous armor = 322 (max armor in all locations except arms which are 8 less than max each)
endo-steel structure

Artemis is not needed, just run right up close to the enemy before firing. remember to shield with your arms (both of them)

this mech is nothing short of the MOST fun build I have and that says a lot because I own every mech in the game. I love this mech. this is MY build, and my baby since the day it was born.
