I think the cicada is intended to run with multiple machine guns but those are just unplayable atm.

Only way to play a ballistics cicada is to mount a couple small caliber guns on it, and play as a skirmisher hunting larger mechs that it can outmaneuver.

It's not bad in that role, but it's quite inflexible against faster mechs, and the quicker medium builds.

Ballistic Cicada is fine. Just slap a couple AC/2's on it and ripple fire people into oblivion. That DPS is gnarly.

The Centurion-D can do that, and different things, and move at a comparable speed. I would choose it because I feel that ballistics on the torso suck (they can work well, I don't like them myself), and has 100 more armor at the cost of 7KPH slower, and then if I wanted to switch the mech up I could. The Cicada only can do this build kinda and that's it.

Lots of useless variants at the moment unfortunately. And by useless I mean there are strictly better variants... zzz

The "K" variant of the Atlas. Call me crazy, but the idea of putting a super fragile engine inside of a very tall easy to hit mech makes no sense to me.

Rip the XL engine out and put in a standard STD 350. The K model comes with two AMS slots, utilize them both. If you run with an Atlas D-DC with its own AMS, you will be able to take down 90% of all LRMs launched at you two.

Any Commando other than the 2D. They have light weaponry, weak armor, and not enough speed to make up for the other flaws. Jenners and fast Centurions can rip through them with ease, and they can't output enough damage to be worthwhile.

Hate it...hate to level it..
Improvement suggestions? Other hardpoints, bigger reactor capacity.

One has 1 energy in the arm and 1 in torso, one has 2 energy in the torso, one has 1 energy in the torso, and 2 ballistics, one in each arm.

I agree, currently, with MGs like this, JJs currently full of suck, and ECM running rampant, the Spider will be worthless. Its like a worse version of the bad Commandos.

I actually enjoyed the 3 Dragon variants that I have because there's little to nothing in common with the 3 loadouts I have for them.

I have to concur with the the non-2D variants of the Commando. I love my 2D but it was agonizing playing the other variants. Haven't tried the Cicada yet

I give my vote to the Yen-Lo-Wang as well. Can you move faster than an A or AL? Sure, but you are pigeon holed into the position of striker, even then you are not that great. The AC20 is a great weapon, once you learn to use it, but many people will target your arm and no matter how hard you try to protect it, your left arm only lasts so long. Speedy light mechs and a fast Dragon will outclass you and rip away that AC20. Now you only have your two MLAS, and while that was once "viable" due to repair/re-arm, no longer is that the case. Until melee attacks enter the game, the YLW is sub par since you cap your damage at 30, leaving you with a low alpha and a slow firing cannon. Can you sub it out for some smaller ACs? Yes, but again you run into arm-loss problems. You will always have tons of empty slots that you can do... nothing with. Stuff the YLW with candy because you will be every ones favorite pinata.

I have been using the YLW for the past week or two, I even have all the Elites on it unlocked. Were there times where I did really well in matches? Yes, there were. The issue is that the YLW is so dole dependent right now that if your team is not working together, your functionality plummets faster than the carrier of a children' TV entertainment star gets caught wanking in public.

Unless you feel the need to have all four Centurions with Mastery, or you want to try skipping the A or AL variants, do not bother spending your money on it. It is not worth it, IMO.

uh... I'd give that prize to the Cicada with 4 ballistic slots and 1 energy slot. Because if there is anything 40 ton mechs need, its multiple autocannons.

I never considered to even run a Cicada, but reading now that there's a variant with a mess of ballistics well.. that's a joke ;)

So I self quote me and Eisern.. I've run the Cicadas for eliting them and.. oh well the Cicada 3C with Xl 255, 1 Gauss+3 tons and 1 Mlas isn't that bad.. provided you use it to snipe from within the rest of the battlegroup or slightly defiled AND your side torso doesn't get blown off from friendly fire (and of course enemy fire).. since you have internally 20 hps well, you can guess what happens when the weapon goes off. After eliting it I sold it nevertheless -_-

Which does work, but the 3M can do that and more, and have ECM.

I posted to one of these a while back saying dragons and cents. but after playing around 400+ games since then I've changed my mind. In my mind and from my experience the Awesome gets the award for the worst, I've purchased a 9m and my brother 2 other variants (can't recall which 2 atm). With the 9M it has 2 energy and 2 missile in the CT, I mean that's 2 wasted hard points regardless of how you build it, not to mention running an XL in 9M is just a death sentence due to its huge side torsos that seem to get shot off before anything else, I tried probably 15-20 different builds with my 9M alone and couldn't for the life of me find a single build that made that mech even as good as my worst cent. build. Just my thoughts.
