its true to the BT lore as a consumable and since PGI will undoubtedly make it expensive. Just chill everyone! (yes pun)

First off, the lore thing went out the toilet when they implemented their horrible take on ECM

Second, LRMs and AC ammo are consumables too... should we start paying for them? What about limited time "better" ammo?

We just took the first slippery step on the precipice of a very slippery slope. People have reason to be wary.

I don't understand the "but it'll be expensive" argument.

If it's expensive, then the people that pay will have the advantage of using it that much more.

Paying to have the advantage.. perhaps, paying to win?

If you run an AS7-D stock, and I use one I've sunk millions into then I'm paying to win, no?

Exactly. It will need to have an adverse effect on the Mech that uses it so its not just abused. The other side of that is that it forces people to be conscious of their heat which will hopefully convince people that a cooler running setup is better than a cheap flush.

You know that you can fire up MW4 and see for yourself how your suggestion works out, right? The adverse effect that kicks in after majority of available targets are already dead doesn't really make any difference.

Don't forget you have to have a Command Console(D-DC) to do this evil!

Where did they ever say that?

Who is this "most people" described in the subject? I'd like to meet him or her.

Wait until you see the modules in action (and their cost) before you blow a gasket complaining about them.

Yes, coolant flush as a consumable is coming. No, there isn't too much reason for freaking out over that since its true to the BT lore as a consumable and since PGI will undoubtedly make it expensive. Just chill everyone! (yes pun)

The 'expensive' is the part that worries me the most! I don't want this game to be pay to win.

I suggested something like this months ago.

But the community spoke out largely against it. They didn't like the idea of balancing and choices - they wanted Double Heatsinks to simply be the only option if you wanted an optimized mech.

I'd actually be OK with that.

I just don't want MW4's Coolant Flush, I don't want it to be mandatory, and I just hate the idea of instantly dumping heat.

Coolant Flush / Pods can be done right. A module is... not right.

Just my thoughts.

I can imagine ways of this working out good...

Sarna quote:
"If a full/unusued pod is struck, the pod causes internal damage (Unbound/Tactical Handbook = 20 point, Maximum Tech/Tactical Operations = 10 points) just like an ammunition explosion"

Would love to see that properly implemented as well as make them favor SHS in some cases there for making more competitive variety in the game possible.....

that's my 2c... not canadian thou... the dont have pennies anymore :P

We've just been there, PGI, for two games. You said it's not coming back. I'm... less than enthusiastic.

wasnt the reason we got less than 2.0 DHS BECAUSE of exactly this?
so if we get flush, **** it, give us 2.0s. They dont care anyways obviously

If you played MW4 and liked it, more power to you.

I hated it. Not solely due to Coolant Flush, but rather because Multiplayer had exactly one tactic: Load up on as many of the biggest gun or LRM as you could, Alpha / Flush / Alpha / Win. It was 100% who shot first, and who guessed the right distance to lag shoot. LRM's were even easier, if less effective. Then you had the one guy in MLas Nova who would wait until everyone had flushed and go around cleaning up (if not previously taking 160+ points of alpha damage...)

I am not looking forward to 4x CUAC/20 and a Coolant Flush allowing double-double-alpha's of 320 points of damage...

I loved MW4, but then, I played it offline. Still do an an annual basis.

I am playing MWO online, because frankly, it's the only option I've got. I would trade the entire thing for MechWarrior 5, or even MechWarrior 4 in a modern engine, but thems the breaks.

Consumables imply a one time use with no repleshment. Pricing structure will dictate how often they will be imployed.

Personally, each should be 50% of the average winning amount for a match. Basically the return of ammo costs.

well, I thought PGI was doing fine by not copying everything World of Tank has done wrong.

Guess I should have shut the hell up.

At least we don't have gold AC/20 ammo (yet)

Inb4 infernal LRM20 ammo can be purchased with MC :P

Q: Have you guys considered adding Coolant Pods to increase heat dissipation of a mech's heatsinks when used? [vayne]

A: Yes, we considered and then dropped the idea. We found it more of a crutch and lead to more issues than it helped with. If you're in a long, multi-targetted single player game, it makes sense. In a player vs. player environment you get a MASSIVE increase in firepower for no cost, or it wouldn't be enough to make a difference (IE. the match would never last long enough for you running out of coolant to matter, because you've already killed two people. Or, it doesn't even last a single fight, then why even have it?) Does that make sense? [Garth]

The devs already outlined why this is a terrible idea in the past, and yet here we are.

A mechwarrior 3 way to flush is fine bit should give you a heat penalty when used. Sure you can get an extra shot off that can save ur bum but in turn the following shots will be extra toasty for the remainder of the match.

an after affect doesnt matter if youre 90 point alphaing and dont care
