To be fair, not everyone thinks ECM is "fine." Not everyone thinks ECM is "terrible." Between two extremes, the truth usually resides.

Thing is the polls show that ECM is indeed fine with many players, it is just the very vocal ex streakcat users who are moaning, everyone else thinks ECM has made the game great.

Oh, and that's where I am!

I have no idea where these crazy ideas like I want ECM nerfed into oblivion come from Some people are willing to flat out lie to try to get their opinions taken more seriously than others. I don't think very many people at all want ECM seriously nerfed, but there need to be counters other than running one of the 4 mechs that has ECM, yourself. That's why I am coming at it from the point of view of buffing other systems and leaving ECM alone.

Some people, though, thought that their tactics would benefit disproportionately from extremely powerful ECM, so they have been in here for weeks crying about how they can't figure out how to not get killed by the oldest trick in the Battletech universe, and have now resorted to telling blatant falsehoods to try to keep their precious little tool from having anything that might interfere with it.

Yes, I used to run a streakcat; now I run a Halfcat (3xSSRM2 Commando w/ ECM). My playstyle hasn't changed, my weapons haven't changed, the biggest differences are that I can't take as much damage, but that's OK since I'm basically impossible to hit.

These clowns, though, are out here tearing up newbie PUGs who can't even effectively fight back, and saying that everything is fine. Yes, it is "fine," if you want this game to shrivel up and die as new players stay away in droves.

Leave if the way it is.
You have complaints? Practice some of that team effort you've been chanting for months. My team, that plays like a team, is using this to the fullest, stomping everybody with a care in the world.

Um, the what that who has been chanting? I PUG exclusively; I cannot count on my teammates to have ECM. It was bad enough before when if a light got close to my LRM-boat or guncat, I had to run away and find help, but at least I could usually see them coming. That was the only reason I built my streakcat. Now it is helpless against most lights people actually play.

Are you saying that PUGers should only be allowed to run 1 of 4 mechs, or just accept that they are most likely going to lose, badly?

Of course. My argument was the most well thought out, best phrased and through in the entire thread.

So there we have it folks, streakcat user who only hates ECM because his streak is in his opinion useless (Mine is not useless you just have to change the way you play).
I only pug but I can type while playing and I do fine, many people who pug will follow orders.
So dude improve your aim (For Srms) and try talking to folk with your keyboard.

Your premise is flawed. TAG is very effective in countering ECM. Too bad more people don't equip it.

Except it's really not. You lose that TAG lock for even a millisecond and the LRMs that are inbound lose all target tracking.

Let's see here, more nonsense from the liars that I am trying to ignore:

1) I use ECM. I think that it is OP, mainly because I don't think that my Commando should be able to take out 3 heavies in one match with nary a scratch to show for it (yes, that happened)
2) Streaks are useless, unless you have ECM on your side to counter the enemy ECM. Oh, sure, you can target between 180 and 200m... and it takes 2.5 seconds to lock... and a Commando or Raven can close that gap in a lot less than 2.5 seconds.
3) I aim just fine; when the lag monster doesn't have me, I can dish out 1000+ damage on my gausscat or gunphract. When I have the lag, the enemy magically teleports out of the way, and I get nothing, or close to it.
4) Communication is great, when you're not in the middle of a brawl; I want to see how someone types while circling an enemy.

Yea, no. Fast light are basically immune to direct fire weapons unless you outnumber them, and if you're in a PUG, that's unlikely to happen.

How? Every game is exactly the same, now. Everyone rushes the enemy base under ECM cover, and if you run into each other, it turns into a furball where the team with the most ECM almost invariably wins, which, again, if you are in a PUG...

I'm sorry, for me, it has killed the game.

The last time my lance was playing regularly (early November) we were LRMing everything into the ground, and winning 99.9% of the time. What's the difference? ECM rush or LRM death? The result is the same. It was just introduced, people are using it, but people will also find a way to overcome it.

There are counters to LRMs; AMS, cover, movement, Gauss....

There is exactly 1 counter to ECM: ECM.
