Welcome to MWO.
Watch the tutorials on this page: http://mwomercs.com/...raining-grounds.
Your mech stays in the game to discourage you dying on purpose to get a lot of games and money.
You cannot respawn.
You cannot turn off torso twist; check out the tutorials.
You'll get better at the game and not get **** so much.
Only one server.
Click on "Owned Mechs" in the mechlab then you can purchase mechs.
I don't have an answer for the launch issue.

How To Suck Less?

~ Play More!

also

~ yes?

whys my mech still in game after i leave

~ Its still playing, actually its calculating your damage.

is there any reason not to leave a game after i die since i dont get xp anyway

~ You can learn a lot by watching others play.

is there any way to respawn or is this like counter-stupid

~ No way yet to respawn.

can you turn off the frikken torso twist, cant even walk in a straight line

~ Keep practicing and maybe turn down the DPI of your mouse. The legs point the direction to walk not the torso.

how do i not get ***** by other guys that i cant even see or hit

~ Watch other players when you die see how they keep from getting hit and build a playing style.

is there a server newbs can go so they dont get ***** all the time

~ You're basically in it now the 8vs8's are in.

where sthe rest of the mechs at i only see 4

~ You are playing in trial mechs until you have enough c-bills to buy your own..

whys the launch button only work less than half the time and how do i pick a server

~ Dunno, what is it doing exactly and you don't pick a server.

Hope to see you on the battlefield.

To somewhat slow down and mitigate suicide farming.

Go into spectator mode and watch how experienced pilots play the game and learn for yourself. Ask questions. Help out your team.

No respawns. This isn't a twitch shooter. When you're dead, you're dead.

Nope. The 'C' key by default centers, though. Takes a few games to get used to, but once you get it, it's second nature.

Stick to cover, stay with teammates, communicate as best possible, focus fire enemy targets with your team, play as a unit, use heat vision to help spot targets that are being covered by an ECM blanket. Call out to teammates whenever you spot enemies by telling them where they are, announce your own plans, if someone takes charge (or if you do) try to follow orders as best as possible from more experienced players.

Nope. Currently a lot of the experienced/team players play in completely different queues in 8-man groups. At most in a drop you'll be up against 4-man teams....of which there aren't that many.

Ask for help and advice in-game, a lot of people will help out.

Also try out the teamspeak servers. There are tons of us there and we're all more than happy to help new pilots.

You're only seeing the trial mechs. You need to click on the 'Owned Mechs' tab in order to buy your own mechs.

Haven't heard of a bug with the launcher before, what exactly is happening? No option to pick servers.

Check the community TS servers. Many of them have a newbie channel where you can ask questions and even group with an experienced player that can help you out.

Rule number 1: Stick with the herd.!!!!! Running off by yourself is a sure recipe for early termination!!!! Find your local atlas, awesome, or similarly sized mech and stick on his butt like glue.
Rule number 2: If he ENGAGES another enemy, you engage the same enemy. Try to focus on hitting the same general area as your teammate. . the enemy will go down quicker.

Rule number 3: FEEL your mech move. Get used to how it turns [wasd] and how it twists [mouse] actually concentrate on this as much as you can every match, but especially at the beginning of matches where you have the quiet time to really get a feel for it. Learn how it turns, how it speeds up, how it slows down.

Rule number 4: Don't be afraid to hang back and watch! See how the enemy deploys, and how your teams counter. Get a feel for where teams focus their line or their push in each match. . it'll give you an idea of what to expect next time. This is really where spectator mode helps. . you can get an idea of long term movements on both teams. . and take the time to really see what kind of weapons the various chassis are packing. Remeber: This is not as much a first person shooter/simulator as it is chess on steroids! Any ***** can fire a weapon. Find 8 idiots that can fire a weapon at the same target at the same time, and you have a viable fighting force. Find a group that can split those 8 idiots up and eat them for breakfast. . and you have a VERY FUN MATCH!

Rule number 5: IT IS OK TO SUCK AS A NEW PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lemme say that again, it's important:

IT IS OK TO SUCK AS A NEW PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every single one of us went through it at one point or another. if not in MwO, then in earlier titles. In the beginning, death is part of the learning process. Don't take it too seriously. . for now. HOWEVER:

When you go into a match, use the "Y" key to open a team chat window and let everyone know you're new. Ask what the plan is. If anyone answers, that's the guy you wanna pair up with. If you see mechs in the distance, communicate with your team and let them know. If you have time, let them know what target you are engaging to give them the opportunity to focus fire.

DO NOT GET PULLED AWAY FROM THE GROUP TO TRY TO KILL THAT [insert light mech name here]!

In the words of Admiral Akbar: "IT'S A TRAP"!

And above all. . HAVE FUN! Go in with the mindset of "I'm going to get a little bit better today" as opposed to "I'm going to get my @$$ kicked today". At some point, you'll look up and realize. . . you didn't DIE that match, or you actually got a kill before they got you. You WILL get better. . with time, effort, and focus.

Just a few rambling thoughts. . but that should give you a bit to ponder.

Oh, and digging through the forums, reading, watching other people's matches on youtube. . all great thoughts.

1st - let me welcome you to MWO , Firemoth.

2nd - I edited your topic title, to assist you with a positive community feedback forum. It is well known that new players, always go through a learning curve, before game knowledge etc, improves.

The more you play the better off you will be.

As suggested get on the public and or private team speak servers, meet and make some friends, and run with a pack.

3rd - to everyone who has responded to this thread so far, YOU ARE ALL TO BE COMMENDED, thank you all for your assistance and remaining positive and giving fire moth, constructive feedback.

The staff and moderating team appreciate your attitudes and commitment to improving the MWO community.

ENJOY THE GAME , everyone.

Sucking and getting ripped to shreds repeatedly is just a phase we all (well most of us) have to go through at the start. Don't worry it gets better.

You are using a trial mech to earn money to purchase your own mech.

You still get cbills, and you learn about the way each type of mech plays. It will help you make an informed decision about what mech to buy.

The bonuses from EXP are nice, but not all that game breaking IMO. You're not missing out in that much.

I want to direct the OP to the 50plus tutorial videos, the FAQ, the Guides forum and the forums overall. I had some of the same questions so I started there.

While the game suffers from a lack of a ingame tutorial, or a weapons range and even though I think they would be nice it really does not require it. Pick a trial mech, and by the time you earn enough to play your own you will have figured out everything else.

You still earn cash to get your own mechs. Bonuses for effeciencies (bought with XP) are nice, but they aren't insane or over-the-top.

That and you still learn to get better at playing the game.

It takes time. I didn't even realize how much time. I just figured getting blown to bits was eventually what was supposed to happen. But the more I played the more I killed and the less I died. Now 400+ matches in I like to think I do OK.

It was one weekend when I got my brother introduced to the game when I realized how big the learning curve could actually be. He's a pretty solid gamer, but was having one heck of a time with MWO.

It's just Beta, and I realize that it's not at all done, but I will be honest -- an in-game tutorial and/or firing range would really be a boon to new players. The YouTube videos are OK, but having your hands on the controls would help a lot more.

I played nearly every Mechwarrior game ever made prior to this, and it still took me a while to get a hand on how these mechs 'feel'. And how playing against real people and not AI actually unfolded in mechs. To this day I still can't pilot a light mech worth $^!@.

Keep your chin up. Once you get the hang of it, it really is a mechload of fun. There isn't much more satisfying than ripping apart a mech one appendage at a time. :P Way more fun that all those lame twitch shooters where one or two slugs and the opponent just drops.

The ingame chat is not very viable for fast communication and you cannot do anything while typing there.
I do recommend joining one of the official/inofficial Teamspeak servers and join some other players - this will improve your experience and flatten the learning curve significantly.

Yes -- in-game chat is half a step from useless. It's not that they don't want to be helpful, but if they're typing, they can't do a thing. It's hard enough to issue basic team movements, much less to provide any useful advice.

Trying to be a lone wolf will usually get you heavily outnumbered and very very dead very very quickly. :) Worst case, if you can't get any sort of group or voice chat in place, stick with the biggest group and try to cover each others' backsides. That should at least give you a fighting chance.

If nothing else, just stick with the group. That way, at least you absorb some damage meant for the other guys.

That makes it more likely your team wins, and you get about twice the C-Bills.

In respect to movement and torso twist, I just wanted to add something. Moving in mechwarrior requires a bit of a perception shift. In most games, the a and d keys are your way to make your avatar sidestep, or strafe. In mechwarrior, you need to shift the way you think of the movement keys. I like to think of a and d as my hips, w and s as my feet. Swivel your hips, move your feet. You can still pull off a strafe but it's more like real life, where you can control your feet and your torso at the same time. Need to strafe, you can certainly do it, but you've got to swivel your hips right or left and move your feet at the speed you want to strafe the target, and you'll go in a circle around them, then move your torso with the mouse to focus on the target.
I found a catapult easiest to practice on because it has lasers in the torso (arm flex and making sure you're able to keep arm weapons on target is a tougher proposition and will take practice), but torso weapons will fire on the centre of your reticule, which makes them valuable for learning with. You will have to learn how to coordinate your hips and torso movement simultaneously, but you had to learn that as a baby just to keep from falling over all the time.
If you want people to group with but don't necessarily want to use team speak, add your name to a thread in the merc recruiting corp... It's titled something like "lone wolf players looking to group... Etc... Add your name here" should be currently one of the popular topics. Add me to friends if you want as well. I'd be happy to group up some evening and see what I can do to show you the ropes. I'm by no means the best player, but as others have said, sometimes it's helpful to watch others
