http://www.joystiq.c...t-giant-robots/

over all i feel the sounds are great
i think the missile warning tone sucks, no feel of impending doom at all

love the machine gun sounds on Pauls Forumuserkiller varient :P

i also really dont like the missile swarms, they are way way way to active and mobile
as mentioned is many other threads i still want to fire them in streams instead of blocks but what eva
im pretty sure the comunity at large is more concerned about the wiggly missiles over stream or block fire

over all its another fully sick trailer and i cannot wait for this game

well thats my feed back whats yous

Nice. The days are growing nearer to when we'll be playing :P

Guns and stomping sounded great. the AC 'thud' is sweet.

However, my nitpicks:

1) I do not like the "pew pew" laser sounds. The only sound from a laser should be the sizzling it makes against air or what it's hitting and the sound of its energy capacitor discharging. I think the earlier MW games did a good job by making this subtle, and if MWO puts nice attention to detail by focusing on the cooking armor and steam sounds they will create I think that would be awesome.

Edit: Building on this thought, I love how the general sound design keeps you detached from the outside, making it really feel like you're in a giant hunk of steel. That's what bothers me about lasers being so loud -- everything should be pretty quiet except for those REALLY LOUD guns (like AC's) firing. When you get hit it should be a tremendous shock and when you get hit by something big it should be DEAFENING (not literally). The amazing potential of mixing the loud and subtle is something that no game has done well before, so this is a great opportunity! Even amidst the chaos of missiles and mechs exploding a PPC blasting you in the face should drown the battlefield out in sparking components and fried external mics.

2) I had no idea that beeping was a missile warning sound. Incoming missiles is a big deal, and MW2 did a great job driving fear into your loins with its loud alarms. I'd make sounds lean toward that direction.

3) Missiles are quite loud things and in this trailer they were silent once airborne. There needs to be more sound occurring from all of these fuel-based and hypersonic munitions being strewn through the air.

And an idea!

Since this is F2P and we're going to be buying all kind of unnecessary things anyway, how about offering us custom cockpit sound packages? For example, let us buy the Mechwarrior 2 cockpit alert and message sfx for a couple bucks or choose other voices / beeps / alarms for 'systems nominal' and those great prompts.

YEAH MAN

Looks like the exact same trailer that Massively showed a few days ago.

I am not sure why players IRL NEED music. It is a distraction. Real mechwarriors, in the fictional milieu, probably NEVER had music in their headsets.

game environmental sounds and effects are just fine....

I was a Tank gunner in a previous life, the sounds inside a tank are VERY different that what you hear outside - NOT so loud. You do not hear missiles, bullets (MGs), or 105-120mm flying away, you DO hear the main gun firing, but that is about it and NOT so loud. Of course, you getting shot at, that is a different matter altogether....

You tend to be dead, making sounds irrelevant.

Since there is a similar amount of energy, and it's also electrically powered, at least one component of the sound is going to be a loud humming, like this US Navy railgun video.

http://fishgame.com/...blog.php?p=6611

You hear the loud electric buzzing just after 20 seconds. The boom/bang is a sonic boom from the projectile. The buzzing would be very loud inside the cockpit.

So you'd get that buzzing sound, plus whatever noise the excitation chamber made as it channeled that incredible surge of power. Then noise of whatever interactions it might have with the air.

videos of lasers interacting with air. Please note, these lasers are many, many, many times less powerful than what mechs would have; the thunder from the mech lasers would be considerably louder. And it would be thunder, because it's doing exactly the same thing as lightning.

As long as we're talking about PEW! PEW! noise.

This video isn't quite a PPC, but it's pretty close looking. It would certainly be acceptable for a MW movie's special effects. And it's real.

Everyone knows that lasers go "Pew Pew"

Lots of people would be disappointed without the "Pew Pew"

It may not be accurate, but it's recognizable. And in an artistic medium like a game, having something sound like what people think a laser should sound like is better then having a laser that when fired makes people go "What?"

After Reading that, the fight between the North Wind Highlanders and the Protomechs in Operation Bulldog came to mind.

No they were not listening to music over their headsets, they were BLASTING bagpipe music through ALL the channels :P

These are all great. I hope that someone from the dev team reads this thread (however unlikely that is).

There's something to be said for the 'pew pew' people know of but this is also a simulator, is it not? There can be a nice median between sci-fi and reality to make something sound both convincingly real and futuristic.

Good game music adds to feel and amplifies the enjoyment of a game, could you play street fighter on mute, I'm browsing these forums while listenening to Guile's stage theme at the moment. But that is just my own preference... I never appreciated game music in my youth, and now listening to them all again I realise just how good the composers actually were, even without the childhood nostalgic memories they invoke, they're genuinely great compositions. Gaming music - the underrated art form. Maybe I'm just weird...

The missile launches sounded a little weak and I think it'd be nice if we had an option to choose the warnings for specific sound effects (e.g. shut down imminent, shut down aborted, etc.)
