Seems this patch and the ECM implementation is a way to force people to spend money and buy an ECM capable mech. I know the two builds I have are both pointless now and I will have to spend money to buy a new mech. More likely I will just return to playing my other games until this one returns to equillibrium.

You do realize that you don't really need to use real money for all the things that you mentioned right?

Actually, when your current builds are useless and you have to use game money to keep them running when you die you do. I guess I could just find a good hiding place and power down and point farm but that is not my style.

Maybe if I sold my two mechs I could get an ECM mando...

Those examples are not of a cash grab, but of a game that is currently in Beta. Expect every patch to change the way you play, whether good or bad. Even finalized games that constantly add new content will change existing conditions...even break things. Without new content and features many games would stagnate. I don't know about you, but I boxed up my Atari 2600 years ago.

ECM will be adjusted, they mentioned it's very powerful and are probably waiting for community response before seeing how far to dial it back.

Put your 2 mechs on mothballs for a bit, run a trial mech (or deathbox as I call them) until you can scrape enough cash up for a ECM mech.

It'll be adjusted, just be patient.

You realize the vast majority of weapon systems are unaffected by ECM right? Unless your 2 mechs were a streak cat and a LRM boat they aren't "pointless". And if they were, well man up and play a few games until you can afford to swap the weapons out for SRMs, or use TAG from 450m to guide your LRMs in.

So are you saying that don't want money to finish the game? I understand Beta and I understand change, and yes I am just venting, but in it's current incarnation MWO no longer matches how I like to play and isn't any fun. So I either drop the mechs that I have put a fair amount of time into, or I spend money on a build that matches the games current style of play, or I stop playing until my mechs are viable again.

I enjoy MWO and I think the people running it are for the most part doing a good job, but this will push people to spend money on ECM mechs and I don't think that hurts Piranhas feelings in the least.

Nice try.

But no, this is no cash grab. The current state of ECM is in almost direct response to streak cats.

Trying to equate this into PGI making $ is rediculous.

ECM aside this patch is a cash grab. just look at the goodies available.

Thinking that PGI isn't in this for the money is silly.

ECM is not about forcing you to spend money. but when it works and adds a neat layer of combat interaction/ game play

i hope it would entice you to spend some money. but the game will never force you.

Actually as a new player although its completely unrelated to what the OP was posting about i believe this IS a cash grab. for the start why do i have to play about 25 games to get a light mech, 50 games to play a medium mech, 75 games to play a heavy mech and about 100 games to get a assault mech. I find this a little extreme of a "grind" before i actually get to my first off the shelf mech which is actually where the game gets interesting. Now if i were to just pay for some mechwarrior credits there is no grind.
At least if im going to grind on a trial mech piranha give us some decent c-bills so i can actually get to the good stuff.

Now if every mech/playstyle has its equal then every mech has its strengths and weaknesses .... ive played enough games now to see that it doesnt matter what everyones build is it can all be overcome with great strategy HOWEVER in order to adapt and change that takes c-bills which from what im seeing is a very low resource. Today after buying my first mech my money hasnt increased per match its actually DROPPED which points to one thing soon the only way for me to "catch up with the crowd" is for me to buy mechwarrior credits.

As a new player then I will gently remind you we generally dislike thread jacking.

That being said, we are discussing the viability of ECM and it's inclusion in this patch as a game altering mechanic (and it's financial implications).

And where we can getting some pot shots in about the current economy/trial mechs.

Watch them put ECM exclusively on Hero variations of some future mechs so you will be forced to shell out money to have it.
