I'm all for "Lone Wolf Only" gameplay. It would not affect you team-oriented people at all, except you'd win less often.

Actually I think it should be Trials only, pugs + 4 man (but fix the matchmaker so you can't syncdrop on the same side and are always opposed by another 4 man) and 8 man.

Agreed... trials only would be good only because it would serve as a training ground before new players head out to the Pugs + 4 Man area with at least a decent competitive mech. However if implementing that delays the ELO system which would also fix this problem, it's not worth the work.

Premades are already winning less often in the 8v8's yet I don't think many people mind since the matches are much more competitive. Using the time to make a "Lone Wolf Only" playground vs using those same resources all towards Phase 3 + ELO matchmaking which benefits everyone makes no sense.

You're basically asking for a Lone Wolf Only area where more experienced PUGS can stomp on other inexperienced PUG's which is exactly the same argument that PUG's are using against Premades. At the end, it's all about the lone wolfs decision to not want to team but yet still expecting to Win just as much as people who teamed... not gonna happen.

If the vote was between a PUG only area coming first vs a true skill based matchmaking.... the skill based matchmaking would be better served to use the development/testing time on since it helps everyone from New Players to Elite Players and you would play people equal to your level. Stomping will go down for everyone at that point.

What this game needs is fully intergrated voice chat available for all users coupled with a prelaunch team lobby system for pugs to meet and coordinate BEFORE the drop starts.

If Pugs had the tools availabe to create teams and had access to voice and text chat before a match it would go a long way towards leveling the playing field.

I've been mulling over making almost this exact post for a while now. You can still implement matchmaking in each arena to make each more competitive, but there is a fundamental difference between PUG and organized play. Give me 8 semi-noobs in a premade team against 8 fairly good individuals and the premade is still going to have VAST advantage. Communication and building to theme/strengths is simply overwhelming compared to any other factors.

The bottom line is, there is NO down side to implementing this. None. It has ONLY positive results. The only people 'harmed' by it are those that can only score against incompetents, and they're going to be hurt MUCH more by matchmaking than by separate lobbies.

I just pugged three matches in a row all loses. There was no issue with the enemy being a premade or more ECM or more cheese build mechs or we had all trial mechs.

The only issue was hoards of disorganized bad pilots that even I can't carry through a match.

When I am the only member of a team that can break 100 damage the problem isn't anything but bad players.

No matchmaker will make a bad player good and wasting development resources on matching bads with bads is unneccisary to the extreme.

The Bads never stick to a game they just assume the game is trash and not them then go to another forum and complain about that game sucking.

Honestly, the answer to getting beaten often in a mechwarrior match has nothing at all to do with game mechanics, and everything to do with the gamers desire to actually put a little effort into a game.

Farmville is still online. You have options.

Np, give me the sign. It's not as if I care what you think about me...

Definitely needs a pug only mode.

I can Tolerate teams atm since its a work in progress, and i understand some just hate competition (8man) or are "casual" teams etc but really, they need their own queue.

That or increase team/map sizes so that 4man teams dont have much impact. 12v12 should probably fix that.

So pugs are bad at the game, so they don't deserve the same courtesy as premades. Is that what you're saying?

A premades only area is ok, but not a pug only cue... I'm about to give up with this "community".

Second.

Seriously the game seems designed with this in mind in a way. With ECM and the map design, no respawns, etc. I mean in MW4 some of those weren't issues, but we also had servers.

I don't think we need VOIP necessarily, though it would be nice. The game experience simply has to be built around the team experience. VOIP could be part of that, but I'm thinking of things to reward teamplay with loud and clear feedback at every stage of the game even if you never say a single word. Being able to form groups in game like...well any MMO in existence would be a huge help.

It would be nice if I could just pick my LRM Cat and get dropped into a random game and actually have my team understand that if they spot for me then we all get warm fuzzies without me even having to remind them. It could be done in simple ways too I suppose. On the screen before the match starts show each player, their mech, it's weapons, and some sort of tooltip maybe. So my Catapult C1 with 2x LRM 15's might say "Benefits from targeted spotting" or something. Maybe even highlight tooltips that the player's configuration has a decent chance of helping with. I agree grouping up in a lobby would go a huge way, though it would be nice if I could bypass all that, and still get an experience that comes together on it's own.

We already have some teamwork rewarded actions, maybe having more and a system to quantify them might help. Assists net me some CB, that's nice. In Halo 4 assists net me medal points towards cosmetic unlockables, so not only can I see a number, I also have something to work for by doing the action.

Maybe just having CW would help. Then winning would be quantifiable beyond personal stats (like unlockable camo would be, sort of) and players would have slightly more reason to win beyond a couple more CB than otherwise.

(I do plenty of Puggin so it's not completely broken.)

I would include a PUG and Trial Mech only mode as well.

I still don't own a Mech and want to earn it with C-Bills. Call me stingy, but I don't like spending money on a beta.
I have joined a few pre-mades and they are great fun, but honestly, I often feel bad joining a pre-made with my Trial Mech.
Feels like being the Fifth Wheel of a Car. Or Feels like you're part of a lance where everyone has fully equiped Clan tech Mechs.

This game is entirely designed around the idea that you play with a team. That's the point of merc corps, community warfare, and c3 integration. Anyone thinking making lonewolf gameplay a priority is playing the wrong game

edit: clarification, I am not saying suppoort for solo players should never come, but I dont think PGI should focus on solo gameplay for the next 6 months minimum

Yes, segregate the community some more and make waiting for game as frustrating and long as Ghost Recon Online... good advise!

Being a pug that simply enjoys pugging, I agree with you. But don't forget the new players. Something has to be done for them. That should be something to focus on, as soon as phase 3 is done.

Giving lone wolves a playground for themselves can come later. I hope they do something for us in time. New players should come first though.

I don't think that waiting times for pugs will get much longer. And we will take all suiciders/afks/teamkillers. That's a bonus for premades....

ELO will help immensely, but still doesn't address the 4-man teams using 3rd party voip to gain an advantage. Until they put voip in-game, then it wasn't "meant" to be played that way.

If both teams are guaranteed a 4 man, fine. I can learn to live with that.

Still, would much rather have a solo only queue.

I Guess he is thinking about waiting for this Premade Groupgames.

As a Pug-player i dint give a dime on how long premades have to wait for a Game. I would only be glad, not to have to play with ppl wich are caling me a pice of Pugscum. I guess this is understandable.

Yes. Especially after being forced to endure a month of phase 1 matchmaking due to pug crying.

I agree, please bring on PUG only mode. Let the premade players (whether 4 or 8 or whatever) play against each other. There is NO reason for premades to play against PUGs other than for PUGstomping and farming Cbills, Exp, and higher K/D and W/L ratios.
