In PUG matches I would assume that the makeup is going to be dependant on the MM. In that sort of situation I won't be taking a specialised mech as youc an't count on support and i assume that all lances will be a mix. Pre planned teams will go for specialised lances most of the time I would imagine.

I didn't vote because I believe holding a dynamic outlook on potential combat objectives, environments, and available pilots holds better purpose than simply dropping a Lance of whatever wherever. I like the idea of static traditional Lances (1 Light, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy, and 1 Assault, per the original years of the board game) and I believe that sort of setup will be more fluid than a fixed Lance in most situations, though it will be necessary to specialize Lances and/or a Company here and there, as the situation dictates.

I'm using both. my "Command lance" will consist of the lance leaders of each specialized lance, ie Commander, Brawler leader, FS leader, and scout leader, and they command a lance of their specialized type. i really hope this setup works well.

I'm thinking a scout lance of lights and fast mediums equipped for LR (with extra close quarters weapons in the mix), coupled with a medium/heavy lance for close/medium ranges.

for this:

you assume how many lances? The game is said to only allow 12 players per side - that equals 3 lances. A command lance is useless, frankly, unless you have 20 or more pilots per team. Each lance should have its own commander/leader, that way independent action is easily facilitated with a drop commander having overall authority when the furball hits.

(I have my own experience as a tanker, in service when the switch from a five- to a four-tank platoon was made. Each platoon was autonomous to a point. Granted, we all had the same equipment, but a tank platoon on a screening mission was awesome, especially at speed.)
