Can't really see any allure to having to count on other on-line players I can't ever really know to be succesful in this game.
Being a long time fan of all the previous mechwarrior games, I've always liked the ideal that any battle was up to me alone to win or lose.
After finding this site and having a good look at it, I haven't found the option of 1 on 1 combat.
I have no interest in playing multi-player battlefield games where I might lose because of someone elses actions.
All the Mechwarrior games here-to-fore have always been about our solo piloting and gunnery skills.
Is there any 1 on 1 style combat here?

sorry but that's never going to happen, i understand where your coming from as the campaigns relied on your actions and lancemate ai was poor in previous games. everyone wants teamplay from this game and the devs are going well out their way for making it so that individual play will never be adressed as far as i can see. so all i can say is, try and lone wolf it but you'll be overpowered and picked off by a wolf pack in moments or, find a different game cause MWO doesn't do much for single players.

Well the last single player MW game I played was on the SNES.

I came back in MW3 multiplayer and then MW4 multiplayer.

Currently there is no 1v1's or any single player campaigns where you can play against mostly lame AI.

Whats with the gigantic fear of losing?

EDIT: wow I really type slow.

Mechwarrior Online

Online....as in MMO.

There is no 1 v 1 option and there probably never will.

There will be an arena added later on, the name of the planet escapes me. But there is a possibility of being one on one in the future.

Campaigns might be added in the future as well.

Give it time. Not everyone sucks, but you do incur a lot of friendly fire damage (people want kills so bad they'll shoot you to get to it)

What's an MMO? 16 players on a small map? I guess my interpretation of what it is must've been waaaaaaay off.

Solaris. Gladitorial style combat that could be one-on-one could be fun, and I think it certainly could come in the future. However, it's not in the game now, it doesn't appear to be a priority, and I don't think it should be.

Solaris, and Clan Zellbrigen, should fit the bill of one-on-one combat.

You could always ask for an honour duel.

unfortunately it's 8vs8.

I'd like too to be able to make free for all or 1vs1 /2vs2 rooms like MW4 allowed.. Let's hope they'll allow it in future.

community Warfare will introduce the elements that bring this from match-based multiplay to massivly multiplayer- where each match affects your House or Merc corp standing in a persistent game world.

Actually, I wouldn't doubt they'll have some form of Solaris matches with 1v1 eventually.

I doubt it will be soon, or ever a focus of the game, but it could happen.

The meat of the game will always be team play.

Having the option for 1-on-1, as well as lance v lance, and also Company scale actions (12-on-12) would all be great. I'd love to see a Solaris arena map, for nostalgia's sake alone (the name I use around here is from a mech gladiator I ran in an old pen and paper Mechwarrior RPG campaign).

I suspect this will probably be allowed in the form of private training arena that is not rated, with no rewards given to prevent farming exploits.

Here's a suggestion, Download and play Mech Commander 2 with only one mech after you complete the first mission. You will quickly find out why people like playing with voice communications such as C3 and Team Speak 3.

Actually, I expect PGI will be allowing 1v1 combat eventually. It won't cost anything, and there are probably LOTS of players who would like to have a go.

Heck, they could even let other players in as spectators, with weapons deactivated urbanmechs.

I would be more than happy to respect a call to single combat, if one came up in game.

I'm sure there will be 1 vs 1 eventually. Of course, get ready to be bent over if you bring a rock to their paper.
