It could only work as part of an attack defend gametype, and only if the attacking team never gets one.

Yes I think you are both right up to a point. It may still be an option to go with some sort of limited repair unit or (MediMech) in convoy based missions on larger maps. The map debate now has it's own set of multiple threads; in the main, everyone wants larger maps and some see it as a way of prolonging missions. My own belief is that 10 to 15 minutes is OK for the type of mission that we are currently fighting, however I would be happy to see 30 minutes on an extended map of say 3 to 4 times the current size.

I'd prefer only one, and can only repair once over x (maybe 5) amount of minutes. If the maps become larger, I probably wouldn't want them since people with slow assaults will probably just leave weapons range and take the long trek for repairs.

Yes, we need bigger maps. We do not need respawn or repair. In fact, MW:O in its current form already has it - it is called the "LAUNCH" button.

no. if we had comparatively HUGE maps and actual bases, i can see rearm options in LONG battle scenarios... but repair in real time is rather incongruous with what 'Mech combat is supposed to be. as a former USAF crew chief on a BIG airframe (C-5), i can say even minor repair/replace in a well stocked base takes more time than any fifteen minute (or two hour) drop will ever allow.

With the current gameplay, certainly not.

I could see it working in other gamemodes with larger maps eventually, it would have to be implemented very carefully though.

Just my thoughts, but if repair bays are added I'd like to see pilot health added as well. It would keep the repair bays from being overused, and it makes sense if you die when you... well, die. Another way to keep it from being spammed would be to only patch up the armor, internals keep their damage and components stay dead.

Rearm and for some Coolant Replenishment (another issue being discussed in several threads) would almost certainly be needed in extended missions. This is part of the logistics side of life that needs to be looked at if and when MechWarrior develops to include the proposed missions such as Siege & Convoy escort. You are right about repair times; practically, they should take a long time if all damage was to be repaired. For this reason we are looking at emergency repair only, enough to get the Mech back into fight, if only as support or recon.

The apocalyptic explosion that would result from an Ammunition Loading Warehouse taking fire would be incredible.

Still not terribly feasible.

We shall see what kind of battle scope comes into play with CW.

matches are not large enough or long enough for something like this. if the game was more like a planetside setup it would make sense, but not in a cod type game like mwo is.

I think this is an interesting concept. Some posters have made valid points about base items assisting low skill, defensive play types. The counter to this would be a conquest type game mode where different points provide different advantages, some offensive and some defensive. You can't just hold the repair bay or helicopter pad and expect to win if the enemy controls every other point, their advantage will not be undone by a single item.

I think that field-repairs would seriously detract from the sense of attrition in the game, something that I believe is an important aspect of this game. Maybe if we had a map the size of, say, the island in Far Cry 3, where a simple repair would take a half hour, this could work. However, this would require something closer to 20 on 20 battles which last 3 or 4 hours, and I don't think our player base is ready for that.

IMHO this is a terrible idea. Too much like Battlefield. I don't want no gimmicks, no tanks, no infantry, no repairs, no aerospace, no escort missions, even the artillery and airstrikes and UAV's were a bad idea to introduce before the game was balanced

i want to see a fully fleshed out game with balanced weapons and balanced weight classes operating successfully and stable for at least a couple good consistent months before we start introducing more crap.

It's awesome to think creatively like this but IMHO its just way too premature when we can't even get things like streaks and ppc's balanced and you still hardly ever see medium mechs in a match.
