to be honest, I think the Atlas-K is another one of the victims of the hardpoint system that the devs chose, why does it have less balistic slots - no one knows, but if you are using ac20 / gauss you probably won't care, why does the d-dc have 3 missile hardpoints

As I faintly recall from closed beta the rumor was the extra missile hardpoint was added because the forced command console had no current function, and they deemed the loss of 2 energy slots for no reason too harsh on the design... so free missile slot.

Which is utter bull hockey! If the Atlas K has to suffer from it's stock load-out, then the AS7-D-DC should lose it freebie missile hardpoint to match it's stock load-out as well. It can mount ECM now, I think it can safely lose it's crutch. Thus making the AS7-D the slightly more offensive Atlas, as it should be. Which would also make the AS7-RS possibly more attractive to single ballistic users.

As for the AS7-K, I don't think the change from AC-20 to Gauss justifies the loss of the ballistic slot. Sure it uses 3 less crits, but it actually weights 1 ton more then the AC/20! Though truthfully what really hurts it is losing the missile hardpoint, and being stuck with the CT energy hardpoints.

I did rather well in the stock Atlas K when it was a trial mech. Sure I had my side torso blown out a couple of times. I can manage an assault mech well enough to prevent that. I do not use it now because I do not want to spend the C-Bills on it.

You do not need to boat in order to be effective. I do well in my HBK-4G, Atlas D, Jenner D, Centurion AL, and other mechs. Those mechs are not configured to be boats.
