I have resorted to cheese builds again. Haven't done this for a couple months now, but what else can i do?
Latest cheese build - Code name "Trollmando''
Commando [insert whatever variant it is, cos i forget]
- 3 SSRM
- Enough HS to spam missiles
- Whatever engine the POS came with.
Irony is... im consistently getting 2-6 kills per match. /shudder

10 HS only, 3 streak and 1 ML. Works cool.
ECMed of course.

Whatever XL engine gets you to 110+km/h + 2 HS (required)
Max out whatever armour you can.
Install ECM.
Profit.
Personally, I hate using this build. Doesn't suit my play style. But holy damn is it effective.

They should remove the ability to have streaks and srms on lights. That would at least remove (or at least soften) the light fest that's happening right now.
There was never a problem with Commandos having streaks until ECM was added.

This. Commandos were a laughing stock.
Yup, and now Jenners are complaining how they aren't viable anymore.
'Streaks are OP and A1 cats should be nerfed!!!' Then it turns out that the only reason lights were any good is because of streaks too.

A well piloted commando was easily the most annoying mech in the game, back before ECM and the streak targetting nerf.
Little ******** would pop out from behind a wall, streak you in the back, then disappear before you could turn around. Then, when you were turned, they'd do it again from the other side.
Piloting a Trollmando against anything larger than a hunchback on River City was the most fun I've ever had in this game.

Honestly I've been experimenting with anti-light builds that do NOT rely on Streaks. With the net code being what it is though it isn't easy and I haven't found anything yet that is a dead ringer but some things are promising. I'm running a Raven at the moment, just to give my group additional ECM capability ... but I do NOT run dual streak racks like everyone else, and just had 5 kills in a game going up against at least 2 ECM-lights and 1 ECM-Cicada.
ECM isn't really a problem so much as the net code is (making it so hard to hit fast moving targets that most everyone resorts to streaks) .... but ECM definitely heightened the problem and made it more obvious (even more so than the previous FOTM builds).
To all those pilots out there trying to jump in to a light ECM expecting to find an "I WIN" button. It's not a guarantee of suddenly making you L33T.

Step 1 - create thread.
Step 2 - as a topic name, type ECM.
Step 3 - post some rubbish about ECM being ''OP''.
Step 4 - submit and await multiple pages of arguments.

When knockdowns were in the game I dubbed them the "I've fallen, and I can't get up" mech. I used to feel bad about killing them because they felt like child soldiers.

They should fix the game so that hit detection worked and you didn't have to lead targets with lasers as if this was 1995 and we were all on dial-up.

No, but really, for the longest time the only thing that made a Commando even close to playable was Streaks or SRMs. You would sneak up behind them, empty out your SRMs into their rear armor, then run away before they turned around to shoot at you. Rinse repeat over the course of two minutes or so and maybe if you were left alone you had yourself a kill. And if a kitted out Raven or, god forbid, a Jenner, spotted you, your only recourse was to stick your head between your legs and kiss your *** goodbye. Maybe if you were good and were packing streaks you'd survive the circle-fest, but I never got to the appropriate level of skill (or frame-rate) to be able to do that consistently. I wrote Commanduel as a fairly accurate (If dramatized) account of what it was like piloting a Commando back in the day.
ECM completely changed the game. Now there's actually a reason to drive lights that aren't Jenner-D's

"Hey, let's take an entire chassis of mech and remove the only reason people would want to drive one! That's a great idea!"

Duh. They already did that.
A ) you triple posted, that's not kosher for forums, just use the edit button next time.
B ) What are you refering to exactly? I was talking about Commandos, whose ability to mount a silly amount of missiles for a light mech is really their only draw. If they're giving you that much trouble, I can tell you from personal experience what their weakness is. You want to know a sure-fire, can't miss strategy to kill Commandos?
Shoot at them. They explode if the breeze so much as changes direction too quickly.

My original post was in reference to softening all the ECM lights that have now flooded the matches. NOT removing the only reason to get them. ECM should be enough now since you can't see the buggers except by sight.
huh... alright I think I understand your point now. Still disagree with you though, if I have you pinned correctly. COMs are the smallest, squishiest mech in the game. Compared to every other mech my darling Dakota's an insect on the battlefield. She may as well be an insect with a shotgun for her troubles.
Things'll get better once they fix netcode and you can actually hit lights properly with anything except lasers. I get that getting circle-strafed to death is frustrating, but that's why your lights and mediums should be running anti-light duty. Remember that even with ECM in the game, the Jenner's lethality was not decreased, and it remains ton for ton the most efficient light killer on the field.
