Why do you think PGI removed the "players online" counter from the UI?

Certainly not 'cause they were getting record amounts of players online.

You know that you are limiting yourself when you take assumptions for facts?

All those games are in later stages than MWO so it's not fair to compare. That you even are able to compare is PGI's fault for going open beta this early. They kind of shot themselves in the foot there but maybe they can recover.

Sorry to tell you here friend but your wrong MWO will have to compete with all other MMOS for new players. Will it capture a few thousand players maybe im thinking most will try it a few time get bored to death or all the grind and just leave and not pay anything, The only reason I have stayed and played so long is im a huge MechWarrior IP fan. But for a new player it lacks a lot to get real excited about.

i'm not disagreeing with you kingcobra. i'm saying its not *fair* to compare with completed games. i know it WILL be compared because PGI was rash enough to release it in a premature state, but that's their problem.

PGI haven't exactly shown stellar judgement in their development road map.

I somehow see Trial Phracts and Hunchies all the time, the only decline i see is in the amount of Trial Awesomes as a week ago every damn Trial was an Awesome...

And when they don't change their Ways fast MWO will die.

Because they went into a very Old MMO Trap, personally i call it the "Kiddie" Trap because the
playstyle of the Gamers resemble that of Kids.

When you got a Game which has a certain complexity, there will be players whining over the Fact that
they die very Fast, others are better and so on, because they are basically "Twitch" Gamers with
no sense of Strategie
The worst of them like to blunter other Gamers simply to feel better. It like a Big Kid which likes to
smash other Kids Sandcastle because it is 2 Years older and i can push the young Kid around.
But they come out crying when the Bigger Brother of the pushed Kid comes around and then they run to their Parents..

In the End they are alone on the Beach, and they get bored as there are only other Child's
guarded by their Parents which do exactly the same, and then leave the Beach and all
of sudden the whole Beach is desertet, because the Big Kid went on to the next Beach.

MWO is the new Beach right now,
The Bigger Brothers are the Players which use strategical Weapons and Movement,
PGI are the Parents has punished the Bigger Brothers with the ECM and some of the Brutes using Streak Cats.
Because Big Kid went out crying.
The Brute Childs are the Brawlzers which like to got into Melee and want to show off their "skillz" by
wrecking Trial Mech Pilots, which are the youngest Kilds.

So what will happen next, soon the Brawl Gamers will realize that there are a lot of Brawlers out there,
and it is no fun to play against players in their league and all of sudden lot of them will disappear.
The Older Brothers are pissed and already moved on to other Games, the young Kids ( aka Trial Mech Pilots)
have been killed 10 times by the Brawlerz and will never come back...

MWO dead. PGI has lost lot of money.

No worries, PGI removed the player counter because it was overflowing the integer variable used to count.

^_^

The player base may not be declining. (We have no way to know.) But the fact that they did remove the players online counter speaks volumes about their issues attracting new players right now.

Anyone getting constantly the message "Failed to find a match"? No? So what the conspiracy theory about that then?

Not constantly - no. But I do get it every so often and at this point I should never see that message.

Wut? You release your game, it has to compete with other games. They can pretend it's beta and whatever. No one's buying it, like no one bought the excuses for D3

This is like saying it's okay for ToR to not have content 'because it's only 8 months old, and WoW is 8 years!'

Which is correct, it is ok that ToR does not have a similar amount of content to that of a game that has had development time for 8 years compared to 8 months.
ToR has much deeper issues than content.

MMO's always start out this way, in fact MMO's rarely get any good until past the 12 month mark.

ToR went up against WoW. It had no content, and tried to be something it wasn't. Now it's dead. People don't care about excuses. You demand 15 dollars, you supply 15 dollars of content.

This is why WoW will only die because WoW killed itself. Developers are too busy making excuses to make good games. You have the whole WoW template right there. You can port and copy it as you see fit. It has 8 years on you? You have 8 years on it! 8 years of tech. Tera at least tried to deliver something. ToR had...voice acting? Like age of Conan?

Oh, okay.

TERA has the best combat in any MMORPG, to date.

Unfortunately they fubar'd much of the other aspects of it, and foolishly put in the Korean store. Honestly, an ice-cream skin for slayer swords? <facepalm>.

I still see at least one AWS or Cataphract trial per match, sometimes the odd Jenner-K.

We do have some numbers to play around with; on the forum main page, at the bottom, there's a "Total Members" figure.

Now before anyone goes ballistic, Garth (IIRC) told us that to show up in that figure, you have to BOTH register for the game AND visit the forums at least once. How many people that leaves out is of course up for debate, but of the five or so friends I have who play MWO, I'm the only one that ever visited the forums.

All right, so I took note of that number a few times over the last few weeks, and it seems it goes up with roughly 500 members per day.

Feel free to draw your own conclusions from those numbers ("OMG only 500 per day, DOOM!" or "OMG, 500 per day! Fantastic", your call), but at least there's new players coming in.

He raises a good point in a way. I mean this game as it is right now is pretty much a World of Tanks clone with some Mechwarrior bits thrown on top of it. With Third Person View they are trying to leech off some of the WoT playerbase as well. How can they do that though when their content is nowhere close to finished and nowhere close to competing with most of the F2P titles out there?

If I'm a gamer unnassociated with the Mechwarrior IP, why would I choose this game over WoT or Planetside 2 or Tribes Ascend or Hawken. Why would I even choose it over paying 50-60 for BF3 or Far Cry 3 or Borderlands 2 or any other main stream title? Sure I can play this for free for a while, Problem is that from the onset of starting out the game is so painful to play for free you just get turned off. You don't even reach the point of becoming invested before you're ready to say F this game. Maybe the Dec 18th patch will change that for the better, I'm definitely skeptical. First impressions though are hard to reverse, it's going to take a lot of stability and a lot of changes to reach a point where people might give it another shot and actually stay and pay.

Somebody already disproved that by creating a new account and watching it show up on the counter.
