False choice. The answer is you're bad.

It's called false dichotomy.

Oh, sorry: Irony is when what you expect to happen and what actually happens are exactly opposite, like someone accusing someone else of intellectual laziness and then presenting an analysis that completely ignores several critically important points.

2) No one - especially not the devs - is saying don't touch ECM. You DID see the TAG and NARC notes right?

Yes; I don't think that it will help.

3) REPEATED THREADS ABOUT THIS TOPIC WHEN PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE FINE WITH ECM AS IS ARE A USELESS WASTE OF TIME AND DEMONSTRATE A RESOUNDING DISCONNECT BETWEEN PEOPLE WHO CAN ADAPT TO ECM AND THOSE WHO CANNOT.

Hey guy! I'M NOT THE ONE SUFFERING UNDER THE SYSTEM! I HAVE AN ECM MECH AND GO AROUND BLOWING AWAY NEWBIES, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS GOOD FOR THE FUTURE OF THE GAME, AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO KEEP PRESUMING THAT THE ONLY REASON A PERSON WOULD OPPOSE A CLEARLY OVERPOWERED SYSTEM IS IF THEY THEMSELVES WERE ON THE LOSING SIDE OF THE IMBALANCE SAYS MORE ABOUT YOUR LACK OF MORAL CHARACTER THAN IT DOES ABOUT THIS GAME.

I doubt your ability to identify a critical point, let alone know whether I'm ignoring it. Just reread me quoting your posts for examples.

Yet somehow you're not a dev. Odd. ECM post volume and streak-cat whining alone should make them give you a job, right??!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I don't really get where you're coming from here. I play plenty of non ECM mechs. I've won plenty of matches where we have less ECM than the other team. ECM is a tactical element, the same way a summoner spell in LOL is a tactical element - you can choose to bring it along, and it brings significant benefits, but its not an end-all be-all. It doesn't impair the vast majority of weapons' systems, it doesn't cap the base for you, it doesn't headshot that Rifleman for you. Like I said - the mk1 eyeball and mk1 brain still seem to work. For most people.

No worries princess, the Pats game only has about 15m left :) I'll stop picking on you and relegate this (and your other dozen ECM threads) to the trash bin where they should be.

Poll is biased towards people who have friends. I suggest an "I have no friends" option.

havent read the thread, but here's what i would do:

i would explain that ECM is brand new and will more than likely undergo tweaking in the (maybe) near future, this being a beta and all. I would explain that it will still be pretty useful once the tweaking is closer to done, but hopefully not a manditory thing, since they devs have stated multiple times that they dont any single manditory piece of equip or mechs. I would then explain to them that they should probably get whichever mech interests them the most, but to consider the ECM version (if it's got one), but not to worry too much about it since after minimal play time they will have enough cbills for more mechs that they can use for various roles.

the important thing at this point is to get them hooked on whatever they like the most and what is more likely to keep them playing. Once they start getting the hang of the game they can start using the cbills on other mechs and fine tune their playstyle. I'm sure i'm not the only one to adjust his style of playing from previous mech games.

also remind them that while it resembles other mech games, it doesnt really play like those, in a good way (imo). Although i've recommended this game to people and they've said "OMG i cant wait to get back to legging people in my *whatevermech*!", they played a few times, and then left.

Maybe. It depends on how much money they have to play with and what they like to play. Not everyone wants or likes to play an ECM mech. Only useless players can't do well in a non-ecm mech.
