Nice, gonna be hilarious to see the trolling that goes on from people intentionally walking into Friendly LoS to give their teammates penalties.

Isn't there a penalty system for friendly fire already in place?

Only for TK's. They are going to implement a system for penalties relating to actual damage.
I mean seriously, who ever accidentally shoots someone? Or has a team-mate wander into their LoS after you've fired your guns in a pub game? Or is brawling with an enemy and has a few of your LRM's smack them in the back? Only plebs ever do damage to friendlies in a game with horrific lag issues, hit detection issues, and genuine problems with the hitboxes.

This will only work if there will be penalties for stupidity

they should do a point system
if you do 10 points of damage to friendlys no penalty
25 small penalty
50 more
and so on

It's already penalty enough to damage/kill a teammate. Saturday I fired a volley of SRM6 and an AC/20 into a enemy Hunchback and took out both the Hunchback and the friendly Raven on the other side of the Hunchback.

If you destroy a allies component or kill them, you get a negative C-Bill/XP credit amount.
I have done it.
I have done it.
