MG fire is so far only useful to mask the sound of your lasers when burrowing into his back.

Machine guns fired at the cockpit annoy me because each shot creates smoke and with 2-4 the smokescreen is so bad you cannot see anything. Luckily they are working on reducing smoke and knockback on ballistic weapons.

Well, the generate no heat and if I have the ballistic slots open I'll use them. They seem to work better against exposed internal structure than armor so I'll often just spray a mech with them while I create an opening with real weapons. As they create no heat it really isn't hurting me to fire them in addition to all my other weapons and when those 1.5 tons wouldn't get me another weapons(limited hardpoints) I might as well fill it out with a Machine Gun. I've cut the armor off mechs with lasers and then watched the MGs eat away their structure while my lasers are recharging.

Being hit with them will really depend on MY condition. If a section is red I'll try to avoid them. If I carry a good deal of ammo and no case and that section is weak I'll avoid them. They do seem to be "crit" seekers. They still need a boost though.

It makes me mad - that they're still not useful.
An MG should do as much damage over 10s as an AC/2.
At the moment, they do 10% of that (0.4 DPS vs 4 DPS).

Where is the "I love using my MGs cause they sound awesome!" option?

As frustrating as it was to run a 4 MG CDA-3C, it was fun the time or two that I got a MG kill. Honestly, though, it was more fun running around with 1 flamer and 4 MGs just to see most people stop and look at me as if to wonder why the Hell I launched like that.

Very few things make me "mad" in video games anymore.

Oh, I still have my RAGE moments here and there, usually over a bad teammate or griefing, but I've learned to not take it seriously.

The only people that complain about my MG's are my team :)

I love the sound of them, just wish they did some actual damage.

The machineguns themselves don't make me mad or annoy me, I enjoy fighting mechs that use them.

The firing sound is obnoxious though and gets old after the first 20 seconds or so.

A mate of mine likes to run a 4xMG cicada every now and again for lolz. He also takes a TAG to help me out tho, so i dont mind.

The sound of MGs is great, and they can have a small psyche effect on targets that are getting shot too, just no damage.

Also decent for learning to lead shots without wasting good ammo.

And getting killed by them is pretty humiliating.

Maybe instead of a straight damage increase, they could increase damage done as you hit more often? That way you get better damage as you continue to hit your enemy.

I had two Commandos dedicate themselves to overheating my 20 DHS Awesome with Flamers, on my back no less not my cockpit, while myself and the rest of my team proceeded to destroy everyone else. I was carrying PPCs too, not that the 7% heat from those Flamers meant much to me.

A few weeks ago i went into the tunnel on Frozen City and ran straight into an Atlas. We traded shots (my ERPPC's and ML's vs. his large lasers and SRM's) and i thought "this is it, i'm going to get blatted by a gauss or AC20"...and then he fired his MG's.
I was like "What? Really?!" :)

Reread the title of the thread, "does getting shot by machineguns make you mad"

I don't run mechs with ballistic slots.

I know MGs are kinda useless currently but I still think they're cool. I always smile when I see a 4xMG Cicada, regardless of which team it's on. I don't undertstand how getting shot by them would make me mad.

OP this is one of the best posts ever! i really like hearing an oddball story like this it adds so much flavor to a game that needs it bad. although it's a secondary brawler weapon it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do and i applaud it! good on ya!
