In my opinion, the lashback PGI and the devs are getting is because of the marketing. It isn't marketed as a beta. When I see all the ads on FB and other sites, no where does it say its beta. They are advertising it as a finished product. But it isn't.

They should have waited until beta is over to market the **** out of this game.
until then, they should have kept it for the core players / founders.

Well they did get cute and add the little blue "beta" under the logo finally.(not that it makes much difference)

I'm not aware of any video game that "forces" you to buy their product, it's always a choice. That's not the argument here anyways.

It's not a beta? Oh, my mistake. How did I ever make that mistake? Wait, I know how. It's because they're running this game as a finished product already. They're already focusing mainly on making new stuff to sell. You wouldn't do this with a game in the middle of its development cycle. Sure, they're adding Mechs, but economy fixes? Nope. Stuff to sell, it's all stuff to sell. I was happy to get the new maps, but next time it'll be another Mech and more sell they want to sell. Desperately needed balance fixes due to the horrible ECM patch? Nope. Changes to the still horribly broken economy? Nope. Just more stuff to sell. Merry Christmas, now pay for our Stalker and some cockpit stockings to put in it. Once selling stuff in the game has become your # 1 priority, it's not a mid development product/game anymore, no matter how much you want to put a cute little sticker on it(see the top left).

"If they read a post that insults them they are not going to take it seriously. When you post, state what the problem is, state what if any ideas you have to fix it and do it with without insulting the devs or anyone else and they might actually listen to what you have to say."
^ I've done those things.(Not just the insults) They usually just axe the threads for firewood.(It's cold in Canada) Chop chop.

Yep, lots of whining about things that are not exactly broken, things that will get fixed over time... and yes, I think some people here totally forget that.

On a not entirely unrelated note, I was playing with a group of guys last night that were even complaining about stuff when we were winning fun matches...I think people just gripe about stuff by default these days, and don't see/hear themselves doing it. It's too bad...we won a good handful of fun matches with only a couple close losses, but they acted like we lost every one- it didn't spoil my fun though ;)

oh, I don't actually read the thousand word essays on why heat / ECM / gauss / Streaks / whatever it is today is broken
I just find it amusing that people go to that much effort to write them in the first place

Well some of us actually cared about the quality of game, especially those of us that put money in it. But I guess our numbers will dwindle in the coming weeks. All the people sticking around will be the brawlers this game now caters to, and those are the ones happy now. So just give it some time.

There is a big difference between giving un-released game studio money to support the products development (founders) and giving the same studio money once it is open to the "public."

The only pretense they might offer to pretend it is still in "beta" is to offer full refunds to anyone that wants it at any time. Then you can still sort of pretend its beta if you want, but that’s mostly good PR on PGI’s part. They know most Battletech players are fairly hard-core fans and there are no good alternatives for them to wander off to right now. 

Under any reasonable standard, this game is no longer in “beta” and has been released to the public. It may still be buggy, but that is the state they elected to release it in. If you wanted to, you could pretend windows xp is still in beta as well. ;)

I don't see how that is so. The finished product is supposed to have Clans, Houses, Named planets to be assaulted. [Black Widow]I don't see how this is "ready"[/Black Widow].

Now can we get this thread closed or combined with one of the other 721 threads about it being beta

The main difference is still the reset.

When a game has open beta, there is not much difference from release. The only difference is that everything get's reset during beta.

Exactly, MWO will have NO further resets.

The game is live.

There is so much wrong with this statement.

They are in no way running this as a finished product. They are continuing to put out content because their public/full release is with Community Warfare. Unless we currently have Community Warfare, then they are not really releasing "new" content beyond their full public release. They are getting the content released that is required for their full release content loadout.

Economy fixes are coming.. next patch, I think I have seen. ECM fixes are... for-the-love-of-all-that-is-holy, man, they have not even had a single patch since ECM was released and you already complaining that they have not fixed it yet? Seriously? They have to gather usage data and look at what is really broken and decide what to do.

Without monetization methods their will be no game. If you want the game to go away then continue to demonize their desire to pay their bills. *sigh*

We, I guess I will end with "I disagree with you completely." and leave it at that.

Well the game will never actually be finished as F2Ps are always adding content. The problem I have is that they literally opened this game to everyone as a demo with grand promises for community warfare, but we haven't seen hide nor hair of CW since their original dev blog and with the pace of their patching and feature implementation I think it's safe to say we won't be getting it with in the next six months. Last I heard, official "launch" is in January and then CW is supposed to be out 90 days afterwards, but we all know that will not happen.

Ture, I will be highly surprised if we see "launch" in January. To much content is missing.

Outside of all the flaws. Can someone explain to me the difference between this mess and a release? To me everything is the same.

That said, google beta and it refers to a state where assets are completed and testing is being done. This is clearly not the case here. There is a list of asset inclusions that goes well into next year and they are buying another server for testing.

This is either a release or an Alpha. Not Beta.

Which falls in line with my six months guesstimate. Also they said they were going to release a MVP (minimally viable product) which I think goes for both OB and Launch.
