So i just bought new mech... Another Cataphract to my collection. It is 1X model, which have 5 slots for energy weapons, 1 for ballistic and 1 for ams. I'm wondering what is the best weapon configuration for this mech?

Mine is; endo + dhs + std 300, 5xmlas and 1xac20. Feels ok, but im not sure if it's the best possible for that. Some guy suggested endo + dhs + 5xllas, idk about the engine.

I'm currently running endo + dhs + std 280 + 5x medium pulse lasers and 1x uac/5. Do you think it's good?

Might work, but i dislike a single ultra-ac5. As long as you can manage the pulse laser heat, it could be strong.

I run endo, DHS, and 5 LL. Sorry not at home to see which engine.

I'm still trying to figure that out.

I have run a 3 ERPPC model. It is descent build, but a heat monger (even with DHS). Plus, you need to be accurate.

I have run 4 LLasers. Not TOO bad on heat with DHS, but could manage heat better. Pretty descent setup.

I now am running 2 LLasers and 1 AC20 with 3 tons ammo and DHS. Just started this so I don't know how I like it yet, but it seems promising.

I think i'll just stick with my config, but another question. Is XL engine worth for Phracts? Or should i only stick with STD?

EDIT:
MeiSooHaityu - I had 3xppc build too xD it was fun, but heat was like "x_X"

XL if you ppc/gauss.
STD if you brawl

I have tried a lot of different configurations for the 1X, and to my suprise I am really enjoying the stock weapons load. 1 PPC, 1 AC10, 4 medium lasers. Of course I upgraded to ES and DHS and switched the engine. The medium lasers are a solid mid-range choice, the AC10 is one of my favorite weapons in general and the PPC is nice because it does not need ammo. If you spam the PPC and lasers then it runs a bit hot, but if you focus on the PPC/AC combo you can keep firing for quite a while and then use the lasers when you need the extra punch. It is not the best weapon fit for everyone, but I found it much more effective than I expected it to be.

You can also try 4 medium lasers, 1 large laser and an AC20. Runs very hot, but also does a lot of damage.

I have been sticking with standard engines for now. They are too expensive to buy and repair IMO. Besides, since I have been running energy heavy lately, there is more room for DHS in a standard engine mech.

Yea, I has to break it up into two fire groups (2 ERPPCs in one group and the last ERPPC in another). My thinking was I could fire all three when I need to and fire just two or just one depending on heat. Even with the DHS, I normally could only fire one at a time or maybe two depending when the battle got heated. I figured there has to be another setup with a better DPS.

My X4 is 2x AC/10 2x machine Guns and 2x Medium Pulse Lasers with 235 STD Engine and I think it's better than AC/5s :)

Well i was considering stock build but with more DHS. I was running trial 1X for a while and i loved ppc + ac/10 combo :(

EDIT: Thanks guys for your help. i will consider every option. Dang... My 4X was better to built xD

although the cataphract can absorb a fair amount of damage before going down, it's very limited torso twist and slower speeds make it a less than wise brawler choice, mid range it performs admirably, and at long range it owns.
what i love doing with this variant is
4 LL (5 is to hot to manage in a sustained firefight, and 4 allows for 5 more DBL heatsinks)
STD275 engine
DHS in the rest of the space

the heats is easily managable, and the 36 damage is fantastic. stay at a comfortable 500-700 range and take shots from cover, where you can let all 4 lasers burn up and then take a brief moment to cool off, and rinse and repeat. shott away, ammo isnt a concern. i even do fine on caustic.

best part is, w/o XL engine, ammo, or endosteel, the repair bill is cheap.
w/o XL engine you can lose your left side and still have good firepower, and vice-versa

Go 2xac2 instead of ac5. You're going to lack ammo and speed if you take the ac5. And the 4x phract is the most fun i ever had in this game. Atlases melt in 6 seconds B)

The 4 ACs on the 4X can be nasty, but I just hate the slow speed on the 4X. I feel like a sitting duck. All of the other Phracts can mount a much larger engine than the 255 that the 4X, and I prefer to be more mobile. I have seen a lot of 4Xs do well, but I am not one of them.

It's mostly about positioning with the 4x, and some luck. You're done if 2+ lights attack you *when/if* you're alone.

Put the stagger fire thing on (haha backspace) and keep all of them in one group. If you need to spam just hit the button quickly.
