Hello everyone, I got to thinking what would be pretty interesting to add to the simulation and MMO aspect of MechWarrior Online. (IMMERSION)
Keep in mind this is just a concept idea, I would place concept art through the post if I had 3D rendering artistic software.

-EDIT-

And just to garner more attention and add another idea (so I can justify the change in topic header)
Mech "bumper" stickers.

- My Other Mech Is A Jenner
- (When Hot Pink comes out, and pending litigation) Ask Me About Mary Kay
- If You Can Read This, You Are Too Close, Pull Around Front
- Shoot Me If You Love Urbanmech
- You Can't Read This (This came to mind for mechs that go over 110 KP/H)
- Caution: Wide Turns (Atlas)
- Caution: This Mech Makes Frequent Stops
- Friendly Fire Isn't Friendly
- Death From Above
- You Should Be Piloting, Not Reading This

(WARNING BELOW - THIS COULD ADD A C-BILL GRIND AND SINK, WITH POSSIBLE MC COSTS)

Feel free to add concept art of your own, that you think anything mentioned below would look like. =)

Mercenary Compound -

We are mercenaries, and I think we could use a compound (instanced instead of open world) with various buildings and functions, staff and defenses.

Hangars (They house MechBays)
- Have two to five possible hangars to house the mech bays
- Allow them to be upgraded (i.e. Stronger structure upgrades*, maintenance equipment**, Mech Techs***)

Defensive walls
- To surround the compound (Stronger structure upgrades*)
- Defense Turrets of various types built into the walls (guard towers with the weapon type of choice)

Command Tower
- The go to place to update/upgrade and fit your mechs and buildings** (similar to how the current client pre-launch is, only instead of massive scroll bar of mechs replace it with something similar to the Mech Tree skill unlock, where it lists the mechs you own (fancy text version) with the drop down, select the desired mech, and it show up on the hollow display (like in MechWarrior 2))
- Be able to recruit Mech Techs*** and purchase better maintenance equipment** (Decrease Repair Time/Cost of mechs and/or facilities)
- Be able to purchase defensive structures and/or crews for tanks/vehicles/elemental armored units to defend your compound. (With Urbanmechs?)
- Check terminals for the ISN News Flash, BattleTech Lore, Conquest Notifications, (destruction of mechs in a specific conflict, territory loss/gain) etc.

Keep in mind that this is just content fluff, which I understand would take a large amount of time and resources to even implement.
But this is just an idea for more immersion, I also understand that the possibility of this actually happening is extremely slim to not at all.

What is everyone's thoughts on this or something similar to this?

An add-on to this would also take an idea that Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The old Republic use..

Crew -

Another function of your Mech Techs (as well as a different type of crew to go on missions to locate salvage, i.e. weapons-> mechs from a campaign, conquering a territory, etc) would be refitting or reverse engineer a derelict and/or mostly destroyed mech (abandoned/old mechs)

The thought behind this kind of thinking, is that this is and might be, the only MechWarrior game we see that's a simulation, as it is an MMO, add as many different aspects to the game as possible, attract more players and keep this thing going for a long time.

I'll probably add more to this as I think of other things.

-EDIT-

Another update 13th Dec ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Considering how much of a pain it can be to place the buildings, the devs can make the compounds "pre-fabs" All of the buildings will have their own place to be, you just have to "purchase" them.

- Research Facility
(This thing woke me from my sleep, literally)
I always was annoyed in certain situations where my ballistic filled arm or torso was on the opposite side I wanted it to be. So why not strip a mech down, "destroy" it (you're basically re-wiring it at this point) and pay half of its chassis costs to make a mirror version. All this will do- is make the hardpoints switch sides, from left arm to right arm and vice verse, left torso to right torso and vice verse. Because it is a mirror, the center torso and head will be left unchanged. That "new" type of mech would then have an identifier similar to the Founders (F). To be simplistic we'll just stick a (M) on it to denote that it is a mirrored version.

The cost of "research" (reverse engineering), would require you have premium time active to complete the research. So now that a vast majority have complained that premium time has count down to no benefit, that same time will be required to run your research, while still giving you that drop bonus. (Does not drain premium time faster, but just makes it a requirement for this advanced feature) Allow the research to take hours, days or weeks to complete. (This is to promote buyers of premium time)

Upgrading the research building - This could allow for more mechs to be Mirrored, reduce time required to mirror a mech, reduce time to reverse engineer defunct/old mechs, and also the option to be able to have more than one research active at a time.

-Radar Tower
Easy enough, allow it to "detect" ECM anomolies at various ranges so you can get an idea of where the ECM bubble or bubbles is at, upgrading this will allow a more accurate pinpoint and/or detection range.

I know canon details and modifications to the Battletech Universe are touchy, so where would these facilities be?

Gents... Periphery

This should allow uncharted (player housing planets) areas to fulfill the above suggestion without messing with the Lore too much.

You get your Pirate invaders to stop, or attack (Campaign type thing, Co-op vs AI as well) and hopefully have fun in the process.

Hopefully I'll have more to come.

With a Battletech Universe already available, and more lore than most franchises, the more immersion, the better. It would separate MW:O from all the other FPSs out there.

Hmm interesting.

You can have other merc corps attack your base in order to reduce the ability to accept contracts (IE operate). While having the base provides a few passive benefits, but carries the aformentioned risk of getting attacked.

Of course there would have to be some sort limiting function to this. Maybe you have to buy a license or a war decloration that has a cool down timer...

This would be particularly useful in a Merc Corps vs Merc Corps situation (wars over disputes/contracts). I agree that a timer would benefit all parties involved due to different time zones.

Things such as needing to repair your own base, field AeroSpace Fighters and Tanks to help defend it (and assault).

I don't like the idea as a whole, but as a game mode, attacking a base or something maybe, but spending more cbills & mc on other things non mech related when the grind is what it is? no thanks.

Maybe when community warfare is released, at least at that point we may be able to pick a planet to put this on and other factions could invade it, but right now, not really.

Just an idea, doesn't have to be right now.

Think of it as more of an end game type thing.

People will have millions of C-Bills before they even get started on something like this, as it would be content later on.

This is by no means saying we want this now, but a possible addition in the future (two years or more).

No doubt. I think the idea fits more with community warfare, but it's more along the lines of another game mode. It could work, but it really depends on the implementation.

If anything, something a little different than the current mech lab. Having 50 mech bays to scroll through gets a little old.

(To everyone that reads this... yes, I know you can use the middle mouse wheel and/or click and drag to get through the mech lineup.)

Updated to reflect the addition of the mech "bumper" stickers idea.

My copilot is Blake

Hows my piloting, contact the MRBC

Caution blast area.
