Hey all, so I've been buying up mechs that appealed to my "mass amounts of damage" and I've ended up with several Awesomes spewing SRM death. Usually with larger engines, ES and DHS.

So yeh, profits have been good, but that's mostly as I have Premium. I'd like to build a *competitive* cbill grinder. I'd also prefer to keep the auto-repair ON.


I was looking for peoples opinions on good mechs for grinding cbills. Preferably non-hero mechs, but mention your hero builds if it pleases you. No Jenners please, I already have 3. :P

A com-2d wih 3 streaks 3 tons ammo and auto-rearm turned off. Or a ctf-3d with 4LL

Get a mech with maybe 2 Gauss Rifles or 10 tons of LRMs (make sure you have a tagger) then never repair or rearm and just sit in the back and deal damage. :P

Go ac20 with 7 tons ammo.  Preferably founders hunchback.  Easy cbills.

Hate to say it but your Jenners are probably going to be your best bet. Getting C-bills means winning and not getting shot up. Since you have experience with the Jenners, you'll have a greater impact on your team's chances to win than with a new mech. And if things head south, you can bug out and try to save some repair damage.

Personally I'm running Dragons and Cataphracts at the moment with ~25K repair bills by only repairing armor, and still get to inflict plenty of damage.

My present build a is CTF-2X, STD 245, 2 LL, 2 SRM6+Artemis, AC/2, 2 tonnes of ammo for each, DHS to fill out slots. Slow, but decent heat efficiency, AC2 & LL annoys the snipers at long range and plenty of grunt up close. Lots of fun and pretty cheap to repair. Looked into upgrading to ES for more ammo or an AC/5 but takes up too much space and would sacrifice heat efficiency, one of the few builds I think that works better without it.

My best are honestly the Jenner, Commando, and Cataphrach. The Cataphrach with a standard engine can do lots of damage, live a long time, and be a whole lot of fun. I find the 1x and 2x are the best for my play style. I run the 2x as an all out brawler with medium lasers, srms, and an ac10. The 1x I use with more range, but also some brawl in it. With a standard 280 you can make these mechs live a long long time.

Hunchback. Either an SP with auto-reloads turned off, or the swayback. Standard engine, not unreasonable amounts of armor to repair. Additionally, it's fast enough to survive most winnable combats... it isn't forced to stand there in front of something bigger and take hits. Exceptions might be when you round a corner and are face to face with an AWS-9M, or a fast Dragon, but those are really their only difficult matchups.

My hunchbacks have been guaranteed moneymakers for me. To boot if you pilot them to elite/master, you can keep a few varieties on hand to mix it up a bit. That makes grinding cbills seem less tedious, and that counts for a lot!

I run a cicada 2a with std 250, 6ml, and double heatsinks. its cheap, fairly fast (100kph+) and quite effective once you get use to it. most importantly its actually fun to run with. could probably do something similar with a jenner but im not sure how the std engines fit in them.

I like my 3 PPC awesome. AWS-8R. I run standard heat sinks with an XL255 engine. Stay at range and Pew, Pew Away. Than run away when they start to close. I can get kills with it and only end up destory once every 3-4 matches.

That's also a great idea, and shame on me for not considering it. Only downside is that the Cicada has a medium mech profile... and without that 120+ punch to it I'm not sure what sort of staying power it will have given that it's only 5 tons heavier than a Jenner. Of course, standard engine improves staying power, improves the cbill grind, and thinnish armor is cheap to repair, too.

No ammo costs, cheap to repair chassis, and plenty deadly on a standard engine. I kinda prefer mine with 4LL and an XL engine, but build to taste and they are cheap to run.

i have not had a Mech that was not making a profit each game.
don't use FF, don't reload on Artemis and try to score assists and component destructions along with killshots.

I'd also suggest a Hunchback 4P build - standard engine 250 / 260, small lasers, dhs - no rearm cost whatsoever, cheap repairs (literally NO expensive equipment) and quite effective brawler, if you can keep those shoulder mounted lasers on target. On a win you'll make a ton of money, on a loss you'll still make pretty good thanks to laughably small repair costs.

I am not on PC now.How much costs 4P?Maybe I should buy it.
I bet AWS laser boat should be same if you want low repairs.

You can grind with every mech, just turn off autorepair/rearm and only repair structure (very cheap).

You people who are only repairing part of your mechs are screwing your teammates. You drop with partial mechs and then make a surprise face when a teammate cores you from behind. Its rude and inconsiderate to drop a 60% mech.

armor is 75%, if you repair structure you're at 83% of total hitpoints. If I'm really grinding I dont mind doing it, besides, pug games are full of wonky builds and people rushing toward the enemy, not repairing armor isn't that bad.
