Will they bring back the old school Dragons then too. That would be a hoot. Stun-lock is a cool game-play mechanic.

YES PLEASE! Because bringing back knockdowns would be entirely different in scope and effect than bringing back the dragon dozers, we need to take the additional, distinct step of bringing them back too!

I don't get why people are so fanatic about getting knockdowns into the game. I've played every single Mechwarrior game and expansion, and not ONCE did any of them feature tripping up mechs or using tripping to "balance" light mechs. If mechs actually tripped over and fell over so easily, they never would build mechs, they'd build tanks... you know, the mobile artillery that doesn't trip over each other. If you require tripping up lights in order to balance them, then the devs have failed.

If you watch the old, old interview of the design goals of the devs, Russ B. listed several goals pgi wanted to acheive for mwo, one of which was to not make it an arms race to the Assaults. They wanted lights and mediums to have a role. Using tripping mechanics to balance said light mechs is beyond silliness. I mean honestly, go ask your non-mechwarrior fanatics what they imagine giant robot combat would be, and tell me if any of them picture mechs ramming into each other to trip them over and then firing on them when they stood up.

Yes, in WW2 there were some tanks that rammed into tiger tanks to take them out, but it was RARE. It was not the normal or preferred tactic. How many A-1 Abrahms tanks rammed into Iraqi tanks?

I mean, c'mon really? Just take a step back and listen to what you're saying....

Knockback return? Hell yes.

Return to the way it was? Fuuuuuck no. I love to pilot dragons, but I still felt it was goofy as all **** that I could just plow everyone in one without much regard for others.

If they made collisions make sense that will be the best. Physical attacks were always one of the biggest equalizers in Battletech.

I'm all for knockdowns returning, but in return the leg damage when running needs to get fixed too.

Apparently it will be back once the net code is improved

Where's the dev post that said that?

Unfortunately, it was a dev post made in closed beta, most of which posts we can no longer view. This was before YLW was revealed, and they said they were removing the Cent AH temporarily to make some changes but it would be back. We got it back alright - in the form of the MC only 'hero' mech YLW in open beta. Underhanded, to say the least.

Never played TT, I assume. In that game, not only were you rolling dice to-hit, you were also rolling dice to-remain-upright after performing radical maneuvers. I'd say one mech slamming into another at 140kph is a fairly radical maneuver.

Yes and ASAP, even if they were just as glitchy as they used to be, removing them has been the snigle biggest buff to fast mechs in this game, and putting them back in would make fast mechs possible to handle without abusing no skill lock on rockets, other invincible ecm lights, or hoping to God, Buddha, and Vishnu that the hitreg lets you deal enough damage to kill them/they do something really stupid before you pour enough firepower to raze a small city into them but you die anyway because they ignore 99.9% of it.

This isn't even close to how it happened.

The only reason the CN9-AH was in the game was as a testbed for the YLW. They removed the AH when they introduced the YLW, not before, and never once even hinted that the AH would be back.

Sure wish I could read those old patch notes.

Yes.

BUT I think that what we need is a sort of mechanic that allows us to fight the risk of falling.

Like with Tabletop, there's a whole aspect of "Piloting Skill", which goes beyond just simple positioning and maneuvering. It helps you to stay on your feet when you'd normally fall from either too much damage in a shortened span of time, impacts from charges and kicks, Damage to Gyroscopes and Actuators, from slipping on ice or concrete, from injuring yourself DURING a fall, and though it really doesn't apply yet, as the base number used to determine if a physical attack lands on a target. You get a chance to fight the fall, depending on how good your piloting skill is and how difficult it would be to stay on your toes.

However, Open Beta's fall system was more like "I run into you. You fall, because my mech is the bigger of the two". It really did not feel very fun. Even just starting the match and getting bowled over by some friendly atlas running up behind you was a pain in the ***... no pun intended.

I'd made a thread about it a long while ago. It's not really something people many other people are concerned about right now (They mostly just bleat about which weapon of the month is OP), but here's an example image of what I'd had in mind.
