I don't get why people are so fanatic about getting knockdowns into the game. I've played every single Mechwarrior game and expansion, and not ONCE did any of them feature tripping up mechs or using tripping to "balance" light mechs. If mechs actually tripped over and fell over so easily, they never would build mechs, they'd build tanks... you know, the mobile artillery that doesn't trip over each other. If you require tripping up lights in order to balance them, then the devs have failed.
If you watch the old, old interview of the design goals of the devs, Russ B. listed several goals pgi wanted to acheive for mwo, one of which was to not make it an arms race to the Assaults. They wanted lights and mediums to have a role. Using tripping mechanics to balance said light mechs is beyond silliness. I mean honestly, go ask your non-mechwarrior fanatics what they imagine giant robot combat would be, and tell me if any of them picture mechs ramming into each other to trip them over and then firing on them when they stood up.
Yes, in WW2 there were some tanks that rammed into tiger tanks to take them out, but it was RARE. It was not the normal or preferred tactic. How many A-1 Abrahms tanks rammed into Iraqi tanks?
I mean, c'mon really? Just take a step back and listen to what you're saying....
