Double click their name. Works for group chat too.
Lol that's a seriously uncommon way to go about it. At least for me. I'd expected a right click context menu allowing me to invite to group, send message and other useful stuff.

I coincidentally found about about this about 10 days after having joined OB. The whole process of socializing under the current game build should be put up as a new players video - including directing them to the unofficial Com TS.
Imo a new player is completely "lost" because all you get when clicking on the social button is an empty friend list, then you go into a game by clicking launch. Instead of an expected LFG lobby, you get thrown into a game with 7 random people, eventually you will make friends while having a good time in a match. So you get the team / scoreboard and try figuring out how to add people.to your empty friend list, then the match is over and if you didn't note them down or the names were "odd" and you mistype them you are back with your empty friend list again.
So yes this game really needs a lobby, because the new player experience is degraded by that as well.

Base maps would need to be increased, a specialized map for each sector then they random map pool.
No server list though, this isn't going to be MW+ but more MPBT.

You would think that for a online only team game that a lobby would have been in place at day one. I just don't understand these game developers. They must lock them in a room and only feed them when a feature is complete, so they rush it out the door with no thought of it actually being useable.

A lobby for "clan wars" on the other hand...I don't see that happen in the near future.
