Both have only energy and missile hard points.
The Stalker has 5 tons more than Awesome.
So enlighten me, why should I use the Awesome over the Stalker?

To avoid the inevitable phallic jokes?

The proper question is, is there any Stalker variant that can move as fast as the Awesome 9M?

If you want a fast mover, the AWS-9M. If you want more energy hardpoints, the AWS-8Q. That's about it.

The gameplay of Stalker and Awesome should be pretty different. Even if just for the design alone (Awesome has movable arms, Stalker has most of it's weapons in the torso and other such differences).

You got that backwards. The real question is why should you use a Stalker over an Awesome? Awesome-9M goes upto 80kph. Stalker only goes 60kph.
The Stalker also wont do any more dps than the Awesome-9M because heat is the limiting factor rather than number of hardpoints.
The only real advantage to the Stalker is that it has more arm mounted weapons than the Awesome.

9M is my favorite mech in the game. With all the pilot skills unlocked and the XL385, you can run it at almost 84 kph. It's amazing for flanking and outmaneuvering other assaults and heavies, I also love when a heavy tries to run from me... Good times are had by me! I did recently switched to a 350 standard, only because in 8v8 lots of people know when you are too fast, and can be very good at shooting out your side torsos, even when you use torso twist after every shot.
That being said, I am definitely going to max out 3 stalker variants simply because you can have a stupid high alpha in a dagger range, with slower torso twist and top speed, it won't be played anything like my 9m though...
