I just went over and read the Hawken forum for a bit... and do you know what... all the same kinds of gripes going on over there as there are over here;

changes to the game from closed beta to open beta have "broken" the game
matchmaker sucks (people not able to drop with friends, 5 minute waits of "searching for game")
lots of MC only mechs = accusations of P2W
skins for $15
item prices for in game money too expensive
Items for real money and too expensive = P2W
system requirements too high / poor performance
ping of 200-250 even from US players on US servers but different coast (they even have east and west coast servers but players aren't getting their own coast and getting bumped to other servers), weapons not useable because of ping
lots of threads saying "why do people keep posting the same whine threads"

and that is just from the first page

they also deleted all the bug reports from closed beta to open beta, and yet there are 3 pages of bug reports already - mechs dissapearing from bays, disconnects, ctd, , no audio... the list goes on

what's really funny is that people who are not getting their own way over here, come on and post threads saying that Hawken has none of the problems that MWO has and that PGI need to sort their stuff out... but I gleaned the above list in 5 minutes of clicking down the first page over there

so suck it up and keep waiting patiently, because no, people are not going to divert in droves to play that rubbish either when it's just as bad as what's going on this side of the fence

When people are having fun playing, they aren't on the forum.

I think that skews the content of threads in all game forums.

I agree with everything everyone has posted above, I just hoped that some home truths might help people get some perspective

I seriously never saw anyone ever do this. I think I can safely say we already knew Hawken had plenty of problems of its own.(Like any game)

It's like this with every game forum! Even years after release!

Get your facts straight yo.

Quote

changes to the game from closed beta to open beta have "broken" the game
>No outright breaking there
matchmaker sucks (people not able to drop with friends, 5 minute waits of "searching for game")
>not even a whole day from release and the matchmaker is called the worst thing ever, I'm sure everyone knows what they're talking about
lots of MC only mechs = accusations of P2W
>there's not a single mc only mech, well, except from that one-off vanguard open beta start promo
skins for $15
>skins
item prices for in game money too expensive
>"basing on ten hours of playing I don't have everything already p2wp2w" - see matchmaker
Items for real money and too expensive = P2W
>see above, real money only items are visuals only
system requirements too high / poor performance
>also reportewd excellent performance under minimum sysreqs.
ping of 200-250 even from US players on US servers but different coast (they even have east and west coast servers but players aren't getting their own coast and getting bumped to other servers), weapons not useable because of ping
>more like 100+, than 200+
lots of threads saying "why do people keep posting the same whine threads"
>one thread in first four pages. "Lots".

Pls stop grasping at straws.

But literally, SSDG (I'm pretty sure I saw the same exact complain thread titles verbatim)

As my Lady told me one day, the grass is only greener on the other side from the amount of {dung} on that side of the fence...

OR you can play both and refrain from posting grief-filled topics like this. Ever thought about that? Whoa.

I have played both. This post was in no way supposed to be a grief aimed at Hawken, it was purely a rebuttle to those posts / posters that had previously stated that Hawken was far less buggy even in closed beta and that they worried that everyone would leave MWO (because of it's bugs and lack of content) to go to Hawken when it went OB.

It's a perspective post, no grief intended. I'm assuming you mean the online "griefing" version of the word. Because I have absolutely no sense of loss or bereavement when it comes to MWO or Hawken.

My first impression of hawken is that it's a mess. At least the interface fully works and you can actually get into a match in mwo

Mechwarrior forum gripes are just a drop in the bucket from Blizzard forums and I've played their games for years. People raging here aren't anywhere near the high quality ragequitting posts I've seen on other forums.

It's like diet gripe. :D

I think that the game needs some retooling in some areas, other then that it's not all that bad.

MWO is not bad, its just still evolving and the pace of it growing into maturity is just too slow for some impatient folks. I prefer this method to having it make lightyear leaps without PGI taking time to gather metrics and feedback on all the steps in between. Gradual progression is a good thing in my books.

Nope,

Re balancing piece meal is actually a terrible thing to do.

By drip feeding equipment into the game and rebalancing the entire system each time they waste huge amounts of man hours doing so.

The biggest sin the game has at the moment is also the almost complete lack of maps and game modes.

Given the lack of CW, there isn't really much in the game to keep interest long term.

Most people cannot comprehend, that game development has become an extremely complex process. The cryengine used by MWO, has alone probably twice as much lines of code as the first Mech Warrior game.

I won't deny that I will try Hawken as well, since I like both types of games (simulation and crazy fast FPS). So I will get my own picture on how both games compare, if even possible...

That's not necessarily true. People testing the game, people adding content, people fixing bugs, they all work in different teams.

Way more than twice as many lines my man.
