PGI needs to start players off with a basic mech of a chosen weight class and give us a target testing range already because I just started in the hawken beta and its new user flow is so much more friendly and less obviously moneygrubbing that it hurts. I love MW IP but I am probably gonna be scarce for a few weeks. Hope they can salvage MWO because all these short term moneygrabs (lol lump of ******* coal?) are starting to leave a bad taste.

I know i'm downloading hawken right now to try it out, I have a great like for twitch based skill games but i'm fine with more tactical games.

Sadly MWO is a bad fusion of the two.

Yep, I played Hawken... hated it.

MWO is the mech game for me, the twitch shooter players can have Hawken... someone's got to play CoD with mechs.

I've tryed Hawken in Alpha. Just one more "mech"-like shooter. Replace mech's with anything else and it will be another shooter clone. Also constant screen "shaking" was so terrible so I can't play for more than half hour. Got headache.

p.s. And yes. I'm MWO fan. Atm it's the only game that gives a lot of fun for me when we are playing with friends.

I know I don't speak for everybody... in fact I'm probably in the minority with the following point of view, but IMHO

hawken could be better in every other way over MWO, but there's ONE THING that hawken will NEVER have that MWO has... it's FRICKIN' MECHWARRIOR -- BATTLETECH.

for that reason ALONE - I will play MWO until the servers shut down and i will NEVER touch hawken. not even once.

PPCs, LRMs, Gauss Rifles, Steiner, Davion, Kurita, WOLF, Jade Falcon, Ghost Bear.... wtf does hawken have? hawken ain't sh*t.

Or allow customization of trial mechs.

It's like comparing BF2s Project Reality mod with CoD. :D

Hawken is a more accurate simulation at this point simply because the weapons actually hit what you shoot with them.

not according to the hawken forums...

I don't think it will maul the playerbase, other than the players who really love twitchy fps games.

I agree, I think if anyone has stuck with MWO this long (entirety of the open beta if not more) will continue to play it. I played Hawken durring their closed beta test, and I've realised how bored I've become of the twitchy fps shooter.

This sounds fun, I'll give it a try.

Soon PGI will reap what they've sewn with the awful new user experience in MWO, soon...

I've been hammering them for things like this for a LONG TIME. But they're too busy making cockpit crap to sell and hero variants.

I've suggested things like:
1) Enough starting money for at least a Light or Medium Mech. Is letting players start out in a Hunchback or Centurion to call their own really a bad thing? It's not like it'll be the only thing they ever use or won't want to immediately grind for new stuff. And they have to work 3 for a talent tree anyway.
2) If not that, then how about this? Free starting Premium(ie 1 week) to get the ball rolling faster. What would have been wrong with this?
3) Some kind of training room/shooting gallery where players can take their Mech to get used to it, adjust its controls, or even test its cooling.(etc)
4) Ability to actually change controls while in an active game.(Why is this not in the game? Why would you not have that?)
5) Information in the game itself that actually tells you about weapons. Right now, you have no idea about the weapons you're buying unless you use an Excel spreadsheet like I have.(Don't worry though, you can find one for your in the Guide forum section, not only for weapons, but for variant/engine speeds and hardpoints too.)

The sad part is that there's nothing left to maul. The eightmans are pretty much dead (again and again we failed to find connection yesterday and when we did find it, it was the same 2-3 groups over and over) and the game probably hasn't attracted new players since forever. Everyone who wanted to leave already left, everyone who could burn out already did so, it's just an overly dedicated mechwarrior franchise fan group that remains.

The matchmaker is horrid broken. I don't really understand what is so hard about fixing it either. It should just be juggling numbers around. Take so many mechs of one tonnage and so many of another and ... match it.

Preventing sync drops in the ordinary que would also help as it would force the lamers over in the 8 man que. Again it should just be about adding/changing numbers. Random delay 5-50 secs. I just tried Hawken and the match maker there failed to get me a dm match two times in a row. But it said that it could take up to a minute so they have made a choice about taking the time it takes over fast but badly matched games.

And they defend the brawler 300m pewpew that this game has become which will run it farther into the ground.

It is now. Just stompystomp to 300m then pewpew until one of you falls down. That's how we do it now. There's no caution required nor any tactical play to the maps anymore. Stompystomp like a train to 300m, pewpew, that's the game.

Because nuking everything from orbit before it ever got into range with your team of 2 DDCs with 45 rocket tubes each backed up by 2 streak cats sure was so tactically complicated.

Please, the old meta was just as tactically braindead as the new meta, just in different ways.
