Players just play the games they fanciest most, or they play the ones they like at the moment.
Let everybody just play the games they like...
And players play multiple games...
At the moment I play MW:O, Left4Dead, and now i played some matches Hawken, , just a couple of hours in the week.
-MW:O for Mechwarrior/Battletech fanatism and mech stomping / beta testing
-Left4Dead for ultimate coop zombie shooting
-Hawken i played because i was curious, but now i am lvl 10, it is boring, and it will become a big grindfest..

Both MWO and Hawken can evolve into decent games, but right now both are severely lacking in features, content and most importantly in bug fixes.

Ok, enough talking about a different game on the MWO forum.
I will admit, though, that my loyalty to MWO is due to the fact that I've been playing Battletech tabletop since 1986. However, when I can get a real life fig of a chosen mech for cheaper than the cost of some pixilated "hero" mech... I am going to question the motive.
Not only that, but I remember the first videos that came out, where the Devs promised that there would never be anything in MWO that a free player could not earn through gameplay. Then they release MC only, "hero" mechs. Since I was laid off from work approximately 3 days after I joined closed beta, I wasn't able to get the founders package I had planned on..... and now am not bothered as much by that.
Yes, MWO is still in Beta, so there is a chance that the game can turn around, but of the 5 players in my tabletop group that joined at the same time as me, I am the only one that still plays....
The others quit for the already well listed reasons.....
I also want to respond to the person that noted 449 people reading the forum.... as of right now, we have 51, but only 11 are members, the rest are guests. That's not necessarily a great number, and those guests are seeing thread after thread of complaints.... which also cannot be good.
I'd like to see this game turned around --- right now, it is a LOT like the Beta version of World of Tanks..... which I have also played, and while it is starting to have the same feel of Free to Play, but Pay to Win, especially with in game financial gains, just for paying in almost $30.00 for a special "hero" mech.
MWO is still a good game, and there is a LOT of potential, but we need to see it, and keep focused.... otherwise, it will fail.

Why are all the preachers, who are calling the soon to be demise of MWO and the failing of PGI/IGP over this project, still here? Why are they preaching for several weeks now, without leaving us alone and enjoying the game? If they see no hope, whey are they not leaving the ship that, by their believe, is sinking?

MWO is a Strategy Sim in giant stompy robots. With a diverse equipment system that gets better every day.
Hawken is a COD type game with side strafe. It simply has small mech avatars put in.
They are way different games. Hawken is probably better for casual players that do not want to learn tactics and just wont to shot stuff. Where is MWO is about team play building groups of mechs that work together.

Because their lives would be empty if they had nothing to complain about?
Like everyone else, I have opinions on how I would have done some things --- PGI took a different route.
I'd like the game to succeed, and in order for it to do that, we need players to stay --- right now, the average grind is approximately 30 battles with trial mechs to earn enough to buy a Commando.... during this time, the only thing the player gets is advertising, and a small portion of c-bills.... and all the advertising is geared towards "your game experience might be more fun if you keep tossing money at us"
They get no exp - no chance to expand, and no real feeling of accomplishment.
Not only that, but the game discourages you from speciaiizing.... in order to unlock the second tier of skills, I have to purchase 3 different Commandos......even though I like my current Commando.
However, the game is still in Beta, so I don't expect everything to be perfectly smooth --- but without some criticism, and preferrably constructive criticism, then how would PGI even know what their players want?

But there are several users who openly state that MWO is dead before it is truly coming alive, we are just not yet aware of it. That PGI/IOGP is doing everything wrong and not listening to their players. Those users are preaching it to us for weeks now. Nonstop!
Is there really nothing else they could do with their free time, if they can not enjoy MWO as it is at the moment?

Probably because they don't cater to the WHINY minority. Instead, observe the silent majority, who's always to busy playing the game to be a forum troll.

Hence the first phrase -- their lives would be empty without something to complain about.
I don't disagree with you - I'm vested in the game, as I've been a fan of the universe since my first tabletop game in 1986.
And while I understand that there will be changes between the tabletop and the computer....not all players are ready for that.
However, if they cannot keep the game going in Beta, though, PGI will have issues. Battletech players are going to be the core of their membership, and they are going to need the support of that community to keep the game going.... bad press at this stage can kill this game before it gets finished.

The gameplay is lacking. A lot. Mechwarrior Online easily has better gameplay in every possible way.
However, I think that lack of new-user flow/slickness that Hawken has... plus the bugs (Hawken never crashes) is what hurts MWO more than anything. They have the gameplay (most important to me) but the rest is lacking that your typical superficial gamer looks for.
If they fix that--and they can learn a lot from Hawken, MWO might be able to gain more players.
I don't think I'll play much Hawken. The gameplay just doesn't get me excited. It is too clunky and munchy.

Every few months I went in google just for this.
During my big wait I tried a few xbox game's, armored core did not even got close, the lost planet series make up for something but also did not had the "sim" feel,.. the old mechassault from 2002 was best to satisfy my need's but all the fancy FPS pulled me away. The last year I was not on realease-guard and mist out on this until last week when the comming of hawken boosted my need for mech's,.. I went back on google an finaly,.. I was satisfied.
So back to topic,.. does hawken gonna srink the playerbase?,.. Whel it brought you guy's this pilot,.. and it's not gonna take this one away,.. NOT AFTER THIS LONG OF WAIT !!,.. unless the game is going to much commercial or 3rd person but that's a hole other discussion.
<edit>,.. just check'd out there site and screenshots,.. nah I'm positive to stay,.. indeed all mechs move fast? and they even don't even look like mech's to me so,.. NO I do not think this is a threat if you have a playerbase based on fan's,.. if you wanna atrackt FPSers to the playerbase then you might have a little problem,.. but they don't care about chassis or layouts either, they just want fast play an free movement. so we gonne lose some commando-mech's on the field,.. I say BETTER

Guess it's a good thing that's not like MW:O at all, eh? /sarcasm.
*Worst of all... it's bloody Duke Nukem, a series that started as a side-scrolling shooter... the fact that PGI effed that up is just... I don't know. One dumbfounding achievement. How DOES one ruin a game that is that bad to begin with? It's like PGI took garbage and IMPROVED it's garbage qualities so that it was TWICE the pile of garbage it was before.
