Well a dual fan card is quieter than a single fan card 99% of the time (less RPM to move the same amount of air) as for Gigabyte vs MSI vs etc, they have similar enough performance that things like warranty and customer support would be what seals the deal for me.

the 3550p is the same as a 3550, just with the intergrated graphics turned off, so it *should* work just fine in any motherboard that accepts an i5-3xxx.

The ram should be fine too, theres alot of modules not listed on their webpage. Altho I'd be looking at 1600 ram, something like http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820148662 is only $1 more than the deal you found on amazon.

so far I've ordered the HDD, network card, am ordering the PSU and motherboard today hopefully
I've found those sites (just search price history checker) and it can show when the discounts have started .. and it'd give me an idea if the deal is just for the holidays = buy now.. or it's always been that price.. and i could wait..some sites are for new egg.. some for amazon.. some can show 3rd party sellers and new/used item.. wish i've known about this earlier lol
eg: http://thetracktor.c...ail/B008TO35EW/

was wondering what's the diff between those two asus GPUs.. and is the more expensive one worth the extra money.. like what difference would i see?

The less expensive card is not factory over-clocked. No it's not worth it. Your better off downloading MSI afterburner and OC'ing it yourself.

March will be the soonest that GTX 700 cards will be released for sale as far as I know, although it's been a while since I heard anything about it.

Also Nvidia doesn't always release its whole range of cards at the same time. For example gtx680 was released in March 2012 but the gtx660ti wasn't available until mid August.

i got the unclocked asus version of the graphics card.. waiting for the items i've ordered to arrive, no rush anyways
so far i got the GPU, HDD... just ordered the SSD:
http://www.bhphotovi...EG&Q=&A=details

i found this mouse.. (the previous suggested mouse it too big for my hand ^^"):
http://www.amazon.co...=A386JU4RNGALO8

i think this keyboard would do for now
http://www.amazon.co...=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

as for the case.. i've put this with the above items in the cart on amazon..
http://www.amazon.co...d=ATVPDKIKX0DER

but what do you guys think of the thermaltake commander ms-i (black)?

i've come across this.. is it useful?
http://www.amazon.co...=A23NVCSO4PYH3S

Happy new year =)

The thermaltake case doesn't have as good of cable management, airflow, filters, or build construction as the NZXT case.

For a mouse, may I recommend an iHome Laser Fastrack? https://www.google.c...ved=0CDEQ8wIwAA

you can find them at Kmart and Sears on sale for $8 from time to time, and I've been using mine for a year now. It's comfortable, highly responsive, and has a dpi switch. Which is great for the price. Only downside is the red colored sides have rubbed off in some areas, but for getting it for less than $10 I'm not complaining.

Everything else looks good.

so now i have got the HDD,SSD,GPU, network card.. antistatic wrest band on the way, and the case
i took a look into the case... and idk, should i expect all fan connectors to be the same? cuz they're not =s

one has 4 pins inside it.. one has only 2.. (i'm gonna try to post a pic)..

and .. found 2 broken pieces that i couldn't find where they broke off from!! ... otherwise i liked the case.. ordered red LED fans today and the RAM ..

found this (windows 7)..
http://www.thepcsoft...ll-Version.html

but... some reviews (even on newegg) for the OEM version got me worried, some said that we gotta become partners with microsoft and it has to be used on resale computers.. :P .. is it safe to use that version?!

The OEM version is only installable on a single system where as other copies can legally be installed on multiple PCs in the same household. The OEM version is designed for retailers that build systems to sell, but is still fine to use if you're building your own.

The different fan connectors sound like Molex(4 metal pins surrounded by plastic) this plugs into your power supply and the 3 or 4 pin (no metal vissible, small square holes) plugs into your motherboard. Note that your stock Intel fan will also have a 4pin connector (that is different to the Molex) that plugs into the CPU fan header on your motherboard.

Keep us updated on how the build goes

True, the only issue with your statement here, is that it is not only installable on one system, you can install it multiple times but you'll have to phone line activate it, and it's against the Terms of use if you change the motherboard, M$ class the Mobo as the brain of the PC.

Still, it's cheaper and have as yet never heard of anyone having an activation rejected, certainly here in europe the phone line activation is automated.

yes one molex has 4 metals pins inside the plastic, but one has only two, is that normal?

does that mean that the OEM version doesn't play all games?

my brother just told me that he has hard drives taken out of his PS3.. would those work on a desktop as the HDD??

Thanks :P

sry buddy i dont know that much about oem. what i do know, dont use your ps3 hdd for desktop the cost in adapters alone would be equal to buying a HDD.
lol runs fine with any duo core, you wont even need a graphics card for that game just maybe some ram. for mwo...... my set up is past minimum requirement but im still crashing, overheating like no other.

my current laptop is a core2 duo .. 1GB ram (ridiculously funny i know lol).. it used to barely play lol at the start.. but now it's absolutely not playable.. maybe cuz of the ram...

Typically, yes.

You only really need 2 wires to get a fan to run. Positive and negative.

The other pins are usually for sensor readings afaik (in the case of the small connectors that plug into the MB) so the MB knows what speed the fan is running and can then control it etc etc.

For the molex ones (the ones that plug into your power supply cables) I'm not 100% sure what the extra connectors would provide, other than a secondary earth or something ? Using molex's means you generally have no control over the speed of the fan (unless it comes with its own controller to adjust it) and it will run at 100% constantly afaik.

Yeah that's definitely a molex connector, should have no problem with that.

This connectors thing is a bit confusing :) .. probly it'd be easier once I start putting things together..

i found these two PSUs..
http://www.newegg.co...ID=3938566&SID=

and this
http://www.newegg.co...ID=3938566&SID=

second one is 'semi-modular' (as pc part picker says).. what does it mean? is it better than the non-modular one? (it is less expensive with the rebate_more expensive if comparing original prices)

thanks! :D
