First off both of those PSUs are good quality and will power any cpu/gpu combo you can throw at them and most dual GPU configs too! So good choice. Modular basically means you can choose which cables to attach to the PSU. Semi modular will usually have the 20+4pin and 4+4pin cables permanently attached (which 99% of the time is fine because 99% of motherboards need these cables to operate) while having only the 6+2 PCI (graphics card cable) cables and molex/sata cables as optional.

TLDR Modular is nice to have as it keeps things tidy, but offers no performance gains and paying extra for it is purely personal preference.

With the available MIR, and the only $5 difference, the Capstone modular is the better buy by a longshot in my opinion. The modular refers to the cables, which allow you to only have to connect the cables you need rather than have a huge bundle of cables in the case. The modular version is also using a better fan than the older non-modular version.

Having just gotten my first modular PSU myself, I can say it's definitely worth it. I'm almost always the bargain type, so I don't typically go for fluff like modular cabling, but in this case, it really does make things vastly easier to work with building the computer, saving the headache of trying to get good ventilation with piles of cables to deal with (something that used to be easier back before bottom-mounted PSUs become popular, not that I disagree with the move).

It's not something I'd pay like $30 extra for, but for five bucks? Hell yeah, get the modular, even if you don't do the MiR (and let's face it, who actually does the MiR? :))

lol I'm gonna do the MiRs .. i have one for WD, asus (GPU).. and now i'll buy the PSU and it has an MiR.. i'll wait for it to arrive and send them all at once ^^"

so.. I'm thinking about the OS.. I'm still hesitant on getting the OEM version of windows 7.. and considering this:

1. Linux, but afraid of it not supporting games.. I know there are ways to go around that.. but would it be a big hassle?!
2. I have a 'product recovery' disk for my toshiba laptop i am using now (vista). i used it to recover the laptop after formatting it a few times.. would it be possible to get an upgrade version of windows 7 and put it on the desktop using the recovery disk?! then i'd get linux for my laptop (i want to keep using my laptop for office and wireless printing cuz i already have installed the software and idk where the printer's disks are)..
would installing linux wipe out everything on the laptop? :)

Thanks a lot!!

Nothing wrong with buying OEM Win 7 OS 64-bit. get the pro version IMHO, you can load more than 16 GB RAM I hear if you do.

1. MWO isn't playable on Linux natively and the dev's haven't stated they are going to port it. This leaves you running an emulator which can be iffy, I'm not knowledgeable enough to give you specifics on this.

2. It's possible to install linux to a bootable USB, this would keep your file structure intact on your laptop, but you would have to find and install linux drivers for all your hardware like your printer and your wireless card etc.

Thank you all for the responses =)

was wondering, how come eBay isn't mentioned much as a source for buying computer parts?
is it about warranty?

so far.. i got most of the items.. PSU on the way.. still need to get MOBO, PCU, mouse and monitor. :)

because ebay isn't exactly the safest way to purchase things. Warranty is one factor as some components have non-transferable warranties past a retailer.

i received the PSU yesterday.. the cables look very nice.. colorful on the inside and the 'sleeve' is not too opaque, has a mesh like effect (from the weaving) so the colors are showing just a bit ;) .. there are some PCI, SATA .. and some unlabeled cables. there's a small about 4 page booklet that's not too informative..

I went to mail the rebate forms today .. might be a bit late for the WD.. hope it gets there by saturday .. didn't do the express mail cuz it's almost the value of the rebate lol..

Q.. if i got an OEM OD.. it'd need a SATA cable.. right? ..and PSU came with 2 SATA cables.. what am i gonna use them for?
... or should i not get an OEM and just get a retail OD?

currently looking at:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16827151256
saw it recommended on another thread

http://www.tigerdire...efaith@live.com
has an offer 25 -> $18

HDDs and optical drives require 2 cables each. One is power from your PSU and the other for data usually comes with your motherboard. Get which ever is cheapest after shipping/tax, the performance difference wont be noticeable.

Thanks everybody for the replies..helped me ALOT on deciding what to get.

been busy (and still am) with studies.. exam day is near!!

anyways.. today i think im going to order the intel i5 3350p.. cuz newegg has an offer on it for 169.99

the mother board (asrock z77 pro4) .. what's the difference between
Pro4-M: http://www.amazon.co...rds=asrock+pro4

and just Pro4 (without the M) http://www.amazon.co...rds=asrock+pro4

the one with M has more stars.. and less expensive.. but idk what's the difference other than that. ..

another question about the OS.. i've done a quick search and found some data analysis comparing windows 8 and 7 in terms of gaming performance and in general.. turned out 8 is better .. among user reviews and responces i've only found one who had all kinds of compatibility issues.. others said they haven't had any issues so far.. so i just wanted to take your opionions here about windows 8.. :P
a lengthy review was talking about the future of windows 8 and how it's gonna be almost like a closed 'system' and they'd control the games that'd play on that system.. have anybody got any idea of how bad this is?

i also wanna share with you guys this.. i've found the new HP pavilion 22xi IPS monitor kinda attractive.. matte screen ..it's new and i only found a few reviews on youtube

I bought a new PC just for MWO and it came with Windows 8. I ran MWO for a couple of weeks before switching back to Windows 7 because I want to install my OS on my SSD HD and the PC does not come with the Windows 8 installation disk. Can't tell you about the other games you want to play, but I know MWO works.

You can find GPU benchmarks here: http://www.videocard...h_end_gpus.html

My new PC came with a NVIDIA 620M, but I'm going to upgrade to a 560 Ti soon. MWO still runs on the 620M, though. Can't wait for the 560 TI. Should make a big difference.

hey thanks =)
but how did u find windows 8 with gaming? does the new mouse gestures disturb gaming somehow (like the corner swipe thing and that kind of things)?

i've actually got all my components.. i've got the asus 660 Ti.. only things left are the OS, mobo (which i'm asking about in the post above), monitor (the one i mentioned above), mouse (i liked this one http://www.amazon.co...=I2E037J6O8L2L5 )..

do i have to get some speakers? or the sound would just come out off the computer somehow? =s
