I just played 6 games back to back. 4 of those rounds were nothing but base rush.... during 2 of those 4 not a single shot was exchanged.

What an ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING waste of time!

There I vented....I feel a bit better.....gonna go grab an Ashton, pour some bourbon and sit in the corner sulking.....

A lot of the 8 mans degrade into either ECM brawls or base rushes. Part of the current meta is to make the other team make a decision between losing their base and turning around to defend it more closely. If they turn around you hit them from behind. IF they don't you cap them

Had you defended your base, you could have had plenty of shooting.

as Sean mentions, have you tried defending your base?

surely, if you are rushing their base then you are part of the problem as well as the solution

I have taken to hanging back from my team just too see what develops. And yes when I do get rushed, I backtrack and defend, usually to a gloriously quick and violent death from 5 or more enemies as my team is just too far away to make a difference, if they even attempt to turn around. On those two rounds with no shots exchanged both teams completely avoided each other as both sides were base rushing.....blah.

join an organised team and start playing with people who will take a suggestion like "lets not just rush-cap this time guys"?

You need your whole team to set up a defensive perimeter, and send scouts (or maintain long range visual) along the edges of the map and/or tunnels (for example, on frozen city maintain constant surveillance of the middle tunnel entrance)

One defender will jnever be sufficient. The whole team should be in a place where they can
  • observe enemy traffic through common routes
  • utilize long range weaponry
  • be close enough to repel a base cap
  • be far enough to push up to crush a defensive enemy
for example, D5 on forest colony: you can watch the tunnel, watch the middle, watch the lake, you can rain lrms or snipe, and if a base rush is performed you will have units within range to repel the cappers.

It might sound like a "boring" way to play, but it's only boring for two minutes until the enemy reaches your defensive perimiter, then give 'em hell!

Of course if they are defending, you need to prepare to flank them and you need to move up as a team- if they have set up a strong defense you need to send fast base cappers to their base to force them to send defenders, and you need to remove enemy ECM mechs and LRM boats/snipers. If your team has already set up a defensive 'blob', it's easy to stick together and move up together to provide a cohesive strike force.

Don't worry. When there is a new Game Mode added, then you can try it.

I mean... I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but i hear there is this thing... it's like when you, whaddayacallit, shoot at the... umm the ... bad guys near your house, no that's not right.... your base, yeah base. I think it it's called defense... yeah that's it, you should try defense.

In all seriousness, it's not that hard even in a pug to type out a quick "hey y'all... we will get based ***** if we wander off like angry heavily armed lemmings, why do we just hang out within lasershot of the base and give any body who come to steal our beer a full metal proctology exam."

I assure you most of the time you will get enough defense to put up a fight worth having, you won't win all the time, but if that's what you are worried about you should probably shouldn't be pugging.

Indeed. I played a PUG match yesterday on Frozen City where we started out 7v8. Someone calls out in team chat "we're down one man, let's defend" and lo and behold, everyone but one Rambo listened. With Rambo promptly dispatched by the enemy team, we set up a perimeter and sent me out as a scout (I was in a Commando). I held off from engaging, just reporting where the enemy came in.

We won that game 8-1.

Red square rushing is totally not a lame game mode at all you just need to l2p the teams engaging in it aren't afraid to fight at all they're just being more TACTICOOL than you.

Seriously, the current basecap mechanic is just so hostile to fun matches and the base cap accelerator modules just made it worse.

Let's see...
Mission Objective (Primary): CAPTURE THE BASE.
Secondary Objective: Kill the OpFor.

Sounds like some folk understand the Objective of the game pretty well.

Now if the PRIMARY objective is DEATH MATCH and they Cap the base, then they failed their Objective.

We hardly ever rush base, we've been working on a defense to the ECM covered base rush. It's tough, we lose a lot, but we are developing tactics that will work.

The current map mode is trash. It encourages base rushing and nothing else.

And yet many merc units will defend it to the death for some reason.

It might be boring, but it is the mission. I had to create scenarios as a Commando. There is much more to the game than just killing one another. We don't have the golden ring at the end of the mission yet, But Capture the base is the MAIN objective for a reason. Now if you WANNA kill each other more than say acquire 30 tons of Gauss ammo that is staged at the base...
...
Fine but after the times up the Dropship takes off and the prize is gone! If you haven't actually captured the base!

That is the key element that is missing from Capture the base. The Salvage prize for the base is substantially to low. Capping a base should yield a prize worthy of a company of destroyed Mechs. All the enemy's stockpile is stored there after all!!!
