I feel a customizable trial mech system would be much better way to introduce newer players to MWO. Newer players would be able to find setups that suit their playstyle better and not get constantly crushed by players who do have customized setups. This generates a much more positive first experience with MWO and likely retain more new players. What do you guys think?

Well when I first got into beta I was able to modify my Atlas from a pool of pre selected supplies. So It might be comparable to allow to mod the Mechs after say 3-5 matches.

They could make it so that you can't save the customization after you log off.....so it allows people to play in pilot lab, they don't have to rebuild the mech after each match....but they can't keep it. Plus they'd still only get trial mech rewards.
The only issues I see, is unless you restrict what equipment they can use to some degree people might take issue with them being able to make a great mech that someone else can't afford to make......of course they'd only get trial rewards and anyone can use a trial mech so to those people i'd say ..... suck it.
The other issue is (and I don't personally care but some might), that it makes stock configs pretty much pointless...and would almost effectively remove them from the game.
I really like the idea of the skill based match maker that takes into account mech specs...Trial mechs should only drop against other trial mechs and the worst customized pilots in the game

Maybe make that you can't change the engine and the heat sink and you have to buy the weapons you want to use and pay the repair bill and ammo bill for those weapon

Someone else mentioned (which I agree with) that Trial Mechs should gain there own XP after matches. After hitting a certain point you'd unlock a predetermined weapon. Then you could add that to your Trail Mech load out. So for an Hunchy you might unlock a AC10 but with which you could add more heatsinks to stop it from overheating so much.
But no engines or upgrades such as DHS.

I have a yes/no attitude towards this poll. I like the idea of having trial mechs because it gives you a taste of different speeds, weapons, and chassis before your first purchase. But, unfortunately, trial mechs are generally TERRIBLE and will drive people away. They also encourage people to purchase a light mech first since they are cheaper. This is also a bad idea as fast mechs require some kind of piloting skill without any punch and could also discourage new players. ECM doesn't help at all.

I think you should be able to customize weapons only. You obviously have a max so if you want to take out lrms for srm 6's and you have the weight let em do it. While they cant tweek heat, engines and armor for max efficency at least they get to do something.

I voted no, but I want to offer an alternative.
Make ALL stock mechs available as non-modifiable trial mechs. Let the pilot decide what to put in the 4 trial slots. Make the slot swapout on a day cool down or something......
