Depends, fighting face to face and head on serves you no good

Yes.

3L is the FOTW, eventially ECM will be nerfed a bit, it's innevitable, so whatever floats your boat.

I wouldnt use a Raven for a brawler, but more of a support brawler. Stay to the sides of the battle and pick at the enemy like the carrion bird you are

It will work right now because of the massive lag shield light mechs get. Once they finally fix it, no it will be a horrible idea. Light mechs don't have enough armor to brawl and will be crushed.

If you'd like to abuse ECM+Streak mechanics, than yeah, The Raven-3L is great for its unintended role of roflbrawling. Its a the new Raid Boss.

Don't over extend yourself in a light. Know when it's time to split. You're not helping anyone dead, especially if your base is being capped, and you being the only light or mech with reasonable speed perished.

The definition of "brawling" is in danger of becoming meaningless if people keep thinking it means "short range combat"

That's what I have (and it seems popular.)

Raven 3L
Maxed Engine
FF Armor
ES Structure
11-12DHS (depending on what you prefer)
2 Med lasers (or 3 if you prefer)
2 STRK2s + 2 tons/ammo
Tag (or 3rd ML if you prefer)
ECM
Not quite maxed armor (removing half a ton where ever you feel like it)

Typically get about 4-600 dmg... good for killing lights, great for killing heavier stuff.
Keeps a tag just in case I have a Sasquatch LRM support mech on my team.

Minor edit- it's not really a brawler: except when it comes to other lights.. it's more of a Guerrilla figher when it comes to large mechs. Brawling doesn't really exist in this game because if a mech truly brawls it doesn't last very long.

It sure isn't a bad one. I got a 3L, maxed its armor, and it does as well as my Hunchbacks ever did, if not better, in a match.

Make sure you turn on your torrent client whilst playing. Oh, and don't forget to forfeit your soul!

Yup. Clog up your bandwidth and raise that ping to buff your defense.

My group was rolling an Assault lance the other night; 3 Atlases and a Hunchback. We stuck together under the DDC ECM but got attached by 2 Raven Ls. They tore through us like we were generic mobile suits in an episode of Gundam Wing. We're not morons or slouches by any means, but the "Studder Step" (Blink Step) that these two had going made it impossible to actually target them. We could only fire in their general area and hope shots landed. They were fast, laggy and knew how to use it.

Also, with no collisions, they cand just ram into an atlas' knees and unload. The big boy can't see that far down and makes it hard to return fire. And your buddies can't fire back at him without hitting you with most of the shots.

ECM is just the whipped cream.

So, the Raven L can be a nasty close in fighter with all the unintentional advantages imparted upon it. If you have a good internet connection and are located near a server, however, you'll have to do something about that to get all those advantages.
