So I've been eyeballing the mech lists and been ammused at the thought of having some of these other Assault mechs added to the pile.

I'll Give a short description of each for those who don't know what they are and can't be bothered to hit up Sarna to find out:

Charger: orrigionally built as a fast scout mech that had pitiful weapons (5 small lasers), the charger was a bit of a death sentence if the pilot wasn't ready to brawl. Later developers decided to try and rebalance it's weapons however, and this led to becoming a more conventional assault mech.

Hatomo-chi: The chargers kissing cousin, the Hatomo-chi was a rude surprise in the war of 3039 with its twin PPC's and SRM packs.

Thug: The inspiration for the Hatomo-chi. Functionally the same in almost every reguard, the biggest difference is that this is a star league era design and is liable to wind up in anyones hands.

Victor: Something of a poor mans atlas, the Victor none the less has formidable fire power and survivability. While traditionally armed with an AC 20, the davions have been arming with newly discovered Gauss rifles to give them reach at the expense of raw damage.

Zeus: The atlas may be the most iconic of lyran mechs but the Zeus is almost as well known and respected as an all purpose work horse. Previous concerns about it's striking power were addressed by Davion technicians by swapping out the AC 5 for a PPC.

Katana/crockett: With formidable intermediate range striking power courtessy of 2 large lasers and an AC 10 the Katana would be a respectable opponent, but when you add Jump jets, 2 SRM 6 and 20 heat sinks, you get a mech that has good manouverability, threatening close range fire and te heat sinks to do whatever it wants. The crockett is the origional chassis of this mech, and features double heat sinks and ER Large lasers.

Stalker: If there is one mech that stands alone as a true nighmare mech prior to the arrival of the clans, then it is the Stalker. Designed to have overlapping fields of fire, the stalker can murder pretty much any other mech that it faces as long as it can get into optimal range and it's pilot doesn't abuse Alpha strikes.

Cyclops: Traditionally a Command mech, the cyclops was origionally designed around the use of the most sophisticated Battle field computer ever designed while maintaining a degree of fire power for the pilot. While most of them were destroyed or damaged beyond repair, the cyclops still has enough power, armor and speed to be easily dismissed.

Highlander: Amongst the largest jump mech designed up to this point in the Inner spere, the Highlander combines armor, manouverability and fire power. Of particular note, is that early pilots took such great and frequent joy in performing "Death from above" with the 95 ton mech, that the term "highlander burial" became interchangable with it.

Banshee: Designed with survivability in mind, the banshee was given extroardinary armor, good speed... and a woeful shortage of weaponry for a 95 ton battlemech. DAvion designers performed an overhaul on the design in the 3040's however, and as a result the banshee has become a respectable mech.

Mauler/dobaku: The dobaku (later redubbed the mauler) was amongst the first new mech's designed by the Draconis combine, and was designed with the intent of providing long range direct fire support via AC 2s, LRMs and large lasers. While the design theory was sound, the origional run was plagued with technical bugs that made the mech's incredibly unstable to operate; pilots were frequently ejected when the computer misinterpreted a hit to the senter armor as an internal ammo explosion. Fortunatley, these technical issues have been weeded out for the Mauler.

King Crab: Probably one of the most terrifying urban combat mechs ever designed. Armed with 2 AC 20s, the King crab will devour any mech that is foolish enough to wander into range of these two massive guns.

Marauder II Built as a heavier version of the Marauder, this mech performs a comparable role: direct fire support via twin PPCs and a Large laser, allowing to savage enemies at range. The 3050 version is even more nightmarish, as it is armed with more sophisticated weaponry; ER PPCs and an LBX AC 10.

Stalker. I'd like to see all the Star League designs released together as an expansion.

We've got two sluggish, high firepower assaults. I'd like to see one with a little more speed and agility so the Victor, settle for the 9B but hope for the 9K.

Actually, it was Steiner which upgraded the Zeus and gave the Banshee a workable configuration (as well as most of its subsequent upgrades). They are both pretty iconic Lyran 'Mechs.

I voted for the Highlander since it best fills the gap between the Atlas and the Awesome. Its got a lot of interesting possibilities in terms of variants and customization and jump jets on an assault mech are fun.

If we don't get any unseen/reseen mechs then the Thug/Hatamoto-chi are great substitutes for the old stalwart duel PPC mechs that are missing.

I've always loved my victor, used them in any game whenever i could. It's my assault mech of choice. Its quick like a heavy, has a nice punch, and can be customized to survive, do massive alpha strike damage, or run really quickly. I just love it, and hope it will be in the first 12 mechs released. However, I'm still putting my money on the stalker.

I voted for the Thug, because when you go against the Thug your going to get mugged.

Ok silliness aside I voted for the Thug because it has two PPCs, good armor, and for an Assault mech its rather fast. Plus its one of my favorites.

I assumed from the title that was dedicated to tanks; They're much closer to "land pigs" then assault mechs

Cyclops - we need a dedicated command 'Mech! We already have Mechs particularly well-suited for every other role; the commanders need some love

I voted for the crockett i have always loved that mech. With good armor, firepower and jj it is a solid design. Add in the fact it has a lot of heat sinks means this mech can dish out damage with little worry about heat.
