Hi,
I'm looking for a good hunchback and or set-up. I'm usually a close-med range fighter, but i want one with some punch so i hold out a but longer.

I'd appreciate the help and thanks for reading! ;)

4SP is pretty reliable. Near stock with 4-5 ML and 2 SRM4/SRM6/SSRM2 and add in DHS to help with heat.

Personally I like the 4G/4H/4P more but they're less reliable with their hunch weapons.

4SP is where it's at.

Ok you twisted my arm (or I just love making mechs) but try this out:

5 ML 2 SRM4

4SP probably has the best staying power, if you use a standard engine that is. Because it generally has a symmetrical hard point layout. You'll still have 50% of your weapons if one of your torso gets blown out.

Personally I like the 4G.

4G is where the up close brawler is at. I did build a 4SP that had good punch at all ranges, see the loadout below. I saved it because I liked it so much...

Get the 4SP. Other variants are inferior durability wise.

- 250 std engine
- Endo
- DHS
- 5 ML
- 2 SRM6 + 2/3 ton ammo

The other variants do fine. You just have to protect the shoulder and use it to your advantage. The shoulder cannons/lasers are very accurate.

4SP with 5x ML and 2x SRM6 with a 260 standard. 5x mpls are doable but you'll have to drop down to SSRMs and it runs pretty hot.

You could always try an XL Gauss Hunchy with 2 mpulse

I've leveled up the 4G, 4P, and 4SP. I equally love them all for different reasons

4G has the AC/20, which is JUST SO SATISFYING to land. KACHONK! My favorite right now.

The 4P is laser pew pew pew. I put a 260 standard engine with 7 small lasers and 2 medium lasers and run around.

The 4SP is the most balanced brawler, mine has 2 SRM 4's with 4 medium lasers and I forget which engine, it might be the regular 200. I don't use SRM 6's because of the added weight and heat, and using SRM 4's allows me to stretch my ammo out a tiny bit longer.

The shoulder gets always blown off. It's an easy target at any angle.

Is the extra speed worth it now with the Gauss? I thought when that thing goes it goes taking your XL with it.

With hunchbacks I try to stick with standards as I generally expect to be in the thick of it.

AC/20 w/ 4 tons of ammo
2 Medium Pulse Lasers
1 Small laser
AMS
DHS (only engine, no extras)
Endo Steel
Standard 200

Of course, you can do that build on a 4H as well. Hell, if you get rid of the pulse lasers you can do 4 medium lasers, a small laser, and an AC/20.

The 4P with 9 (yes 9!) lasers does massive damage as a brawler. But even with every available slot loaded with double heat sinks it still runs way hot. If you can manage your heat properly it can pack a real punch. If you can't, don't bother.

There is one other drawback. If you get your hunch shot off and your arm falls off, you are left with one laser in your right arm and one on your head. Ouch. ;)

If you use cover and stay behind your allies (the Hunchback is much more of an escort than it is a brawler. Try to always have something to hide behind and only pop out when victory is assured by doing so) you can keep that hunch intact.

I guess I'll post my 4SP, although I don't want to... I love using it.
Med. Laser: x5
SRM6: x2
4tonnes SRM Ammo.

Endo Steel
DHS (6 of them)
Artemis
Armor: 333
Speed: 71.2

Much fun. I'm slowly fine tuning him and making him faster, but I like where he's at right now.

For the 4P:

250STD

2 medium Pulse lasers (arms)
7 Medium Lasers (head and R torso)
18 DHS
Endosteel
320 armor (I stripped a bit off the legs for all my hunchies, 8 points from each)

Runs a bit hot if you alpha strike too much, but you should put the pulse lasers in group 1, all medium lasers in group 2 on chainfire and all medium lasers in another group for an alpha strike. This lets you manage your heat quite well, and the alpha strike from this set up is deadly.

For the 4H:

225STD

2 Medium Lasrs (arms)
3 Small Lasers (head and torso)
1 AC20 (4 tons ammo)
10 DHS (9 in engine, 1 in L torso)
Endosteel
320 armor

for the 4 SP:

225STD

5 Medium Lasers (arms and head)
2 SRM6 (3 tons ammo)
18 DHS
Endosteel
AMS (1 ton ammo)
320 armor

Speed: 71.2

Had that build some time ago without the artemis. But the low speed has been an issue from the start. So dropped 2 tons ammo and got the 250.
