Even worse than the screen shake, for some reason when you get hit with chain-fired missiles the screen continuously gets darker until practically pitch black except the UI elements.

Same effect as when Catapults had the horrific staring-into-the-sun blinding powers.

Why? Why would you code this? It's terrible.

Agree, please remove this effect, or greatly reduce it.

As this is a local effect from the game client, I have no doubt some ppl will find a way to deactivate it and get a battle advantage over normal players.
And since it is generated by the client, I doubt you will ever be able to prevent people from modifying the files and removing it.

It only happens on the forest map. I believe it has something to do with the "fog" effect on that map.

And I fully agree with the OP and his wording, I might have even used stronger words. Today when the enemy was pushing in I had the dark screen effect and on top of that I shutdown and had the shutdown bug (red overlay stucks) so I literally couldn't see ****, just red and black and then I was dead. I wanted to ******* uninstall this piece of **** game at that moment...

Hmmm, I thought they already said they reduced it. I guess they need to reduce it more or I misread and it's actually coming next patch?

Agreed. This effect doesn't need to be reduced, it needs to be removed entirely as there is absolutely no reason for it to be there in the first place!

Not just enemy missiles, I've had this effect when firing my own lasers at a distant target (unzoomed and zoomed).

Has to be the lake map as all others are fine.

definitly needs removing until it is addressed as it is nearly to the point of exiting the round when ever this map comes up.

Only other thing I have noticed is that it only effects me when I am on the team at the lower base, I do not think I have had it occur when I play from the higher base in the hills.

I get it with missile explosions and laser fire. Not only does my screen go almost black, but it blurs out with cockpit shake. I get one or the other. Some times both.

If you fire with 3 machine guns or similar weapons with an high amount of rate of fire the screen gets dark. It gets so dark you can't see anything so you have to stop fire and it will go back to normal but that takes about 3-4 seconds. I agree its really bad

Can't even see where you are walking to when this screen darkening effect gets bad enough.

If you haven't seens this, just take a AC/2 in left and right torso (e.g. Cicada) and zoom in. Zooming makes it even worse. Can't see an Atlas in your front in this London smog you are creating when firing.

This has caused me a lot of grief lately, and I concur that its almost exclusively on the forest colony temperate map, though I've noticed it on caustic too. I've recently been playing a slow moving Atlas so I can't simply get out of the thick black OPAQUE smoke. I get it from missiles, autocannons and dead mechs. I think the problem may simply be the opacity of the smoke particles as even the highest part rising from the source is still not fading off.

I have tried both raising and lowering my particle quality setting to no avail.

Can't see a thing and thermal vision isn't much of an improvement.

I think these are two different issues?

There is smoke obscurement from the use or impact of weapons then there is the inexplicable darkening as if laser flashes and nearby explosions temporarily blind you.. exept for your HUD.

The smoke needs to be tweeked and the darkening needs to be removed entirely. Yes Ive seen this mostly on Forest Colony and it literally feels like Im playing in near complete darkness.

I've got this effect several times, but always at the beginning of the battle.
Its like you suddenly start using sunglasses.
And, as far as I remember only on the forest maps.
Yesterday I had it the first time I played.
And found that Alt-Tab helped to restore the screen properly. But that cost some seconds in battle.

I deactivated almost every feature of my graphics card, but no effect.
First noticed this 3 patches ago.

Agreed. It's annoying to have the screen fade entirely to black. If it was changed, I have not noticed a difference. It still goes to total black on Forest Colony when you're being hit.

From what I have experienced of this issue, it seems to be an issue with the HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering in the game.

http://en.wikipedia....range_rendering

HDR rendering allows a larger difference in bright and dark objects by shifting the overall brightness of everything depending on what the brightest or darkest object on screen is. The most noticeable visual effect this has is similar to your eyes adjusting to a bright or dark room. This is why it happens when you fire lasers or get hit by missiles on Forest Colony (I have seen it on River city as well) because the laser beam and missile flames are much brighter than these dark maps, so the screen darkens to compensate, or overcompensate in this case. You can also see it happen to a lesser degree if you look towards the sun, then at the ground on these maps.

When combined with the black smoke created by most weapons, this usually results in being completely blind until the HDR resets and the smoke clears. It definitely needs fixing.
