Because you go -- Hey puggies ... they are going to have 5 lights on their team, stick near base to defend it. Puggies why are you going so far away from base? Hey look 4 lights on the cap and everyone is too far away to defend. Or you fight in the caldera in your trial mech or your 3 PPC Awesome. Or they are suiciding or blowing themselves up. Or PGI has given them the 4 frames a second bug, they crashed to desktop or they are trying to run the game on a "minimal spec" machine.

*CoughnotmeCough* I`m willing to bet most of my problems come from the fact I am using Gforce 9800, Dual Core AMD 3.2 Ghz gpu and cpu, and everything else on this computer.

At the start of the match, hold the "Q" key and count all the cheese on your team.
If your team consists of more than 75% (total of 5-6 mechs) of these, consider afking;
-Awesomes
-Dragons
-Non-ecm commandos/ravens/cicadas
-K - variant of the atlas
-Founders Catapult/c1
-Centurions
If your team has the d-dc atlas, consider playing while babysitting his ***.

Play outside US prime time so you can avoid sync dropping 8-man teams. Aside from weekends i dont normally see these, its mostly australian/russian players about now.

Should always, always scan the mechs on startup to see what classes they are. If your in a pug team and theres 4-5 lights on your side, you probably just dropped vs a 4-man ECM commando squad or some such.

I like this plan as i play in a D-DC over my founders Atlas atm. It's pretty much true, i go one way and the team follows. Even had a mech based meatshield the other day as people were intentionally taking shots for me in order to keep my ECM alive.
Funny enough though it worked and we won, which wasn't that hard as the other team setup camp in river city's northern base and bored mech after bored mech eventually came down to get insta gibbed.

Is there a way to see exact loadout, or just variants? Because I've wanted since CB a way to see what my allies are packing (specifically)

More of a guessing game, as in no.
But almost always the variants 9m, 1x, 4j and 7k are trials.
And most of the time said mechs suck.

Get the mech you like. ECM is a red herring, and if you dislike a mech you aren't going to enjoy the game and your performance will suffer, even with an FoTM.
Check out the TS servers, drop in "randoms with voice." Profit. Pugging is like gambling. Sometimes you get some other folks that want to work together and win. Sometimes you get people who scatter at flank speed. Sometimes you get a full team, sometimes you get 4 afk farmers and a suicide.

But I read that that rarely happens...just a "boogerman" or something like that
