This is my first topic since reserving my MechWarrior name. Haven't been able to find anything similar. But if there is, then feel free for this to be deleted. Also, I'm not too sure if this is the right place for this topic to be in...

Basically, to kill time. Thought I might pose some questions aimed at the players rather than the devs for once  So anybody, feel free to answer these questions.

1. What's your MechWarrior name and does it have an origin? i.e. Where did it originate from?

2. What drew you into the BattleTech universe, hence MechWarrior: Online?

3. Are you an "Old Vet"?

4. What's your all time favourite Mech and why?

5. Light, Medium, Heavy and/or Assault; which weight class do you prefer and why?

6. Scout, Assault, Defense and/or Commander; which role are you going to chose and why?

7. What faction will you be a part of and why? (Lone Wolf, Mercenary, Inner Sphere Faction, Clanner)

8. If you were/are a Lance Commander, what would your Lance be called? Any particular reason?

I'll start
1. My MechWarrior name is "Varro Thaddeus". I chose this name because my online alias has always been Sgt-Thaddeus. Varro was only added as a first name as... well... who in their right mind would name their child "Sgt" (Sergeant that is)! So Varro Thaddeus it is. Tho perhaps a bio is in order :)

2. Well, first and foremost, I've always had an obsession with robots, hence Mechs. Hell if I could, I'd like a robotic arm! Tho the other reason is cos my dad got me into BattleTech. When I was a kid, I used to sneak into his room just to "steal" his old BattleTech books just to look at the pictures (I was too young to understand it at the time).

3. No! I'm not that old!! I'm a first year uni student!!

4. Damn, there are sooo many to choose from and it always changes. I guess currently, it would have to be a Catapult (CPLT-C1). I've always been compelled to "Snipe" (or in this case, bombard) my enemy/opponent from afar. I hate getting "up close and personal" with my enemies/opponents.

5. Medium and Heavy.
Medium, cos it's a solid all-rounder, "Jack-of-all-trades". Good speed, decent firepower and decent armour, what's not to love?
Heavy, cos of similar reasons, tho with much more armour and firepower

6. Defense most likely. I'm much better at defending something then attacking. Besides, I've always been one to defend others (specifically my friends) and that value caries over into games. Tho I wouldn't mind Commander. Tho the only thing I plan to command is a Lance. Directing 3 other players is much more easy than directing a whole company!!

7. Mercenary, the honourable Mercenary. The one who's loyal to the contract and not the money. You won't buy me out!! Tho there is no way I'm working for someone who will have me attack civilians!! I'm a Neutral Good Mercenary

8. Hammer, Artillery Lance. A Hammer is something big and heavy that smashes things apart. No finesse at all. Perfect for filling in the artillery type role that I plan to be! ;)

P.S. I implore you to not abuse other people's answers. Everyone has their own reasons, and it's not up to you to judge them. Besides, this is purely for fun!

well i figured id be first to answer your questions

1. as far as my name goes im named after a um... cough.... adult film "actress" i think is the right word. (DONT ASK)

2. I saw mech warrior 2 when it first came out been fan ever since. ( more on this if you want http://mwomercs.com/...u-become-a-fan/ )

3. yeah im an old vet of MW at 28

4. Highlander. Davis Mccall piloted one and thats good enough for me + the highlander burial ( where you jump jet and DOA another mech) need i say more? not to mention GAUSS RIFLE BABY. not to mention a holly six pack.

5. cant pick i like all classes.

6. Assualt just because if you want it blown up or attacked im your man just dont ask me to defend or escort any thing.

7. As for now im ill prolly run as a FRR merc you know any thing for money just nothing dishonerable. (ok ok nothing too dishonerable)
then if they ever bring it in id like to run with comstar or comgaurds.

8. the angry poodles. i mean why not? how much would it suck to admit that you got killed by an angry poodle.

1: Calvin Vakarian I named him after a character I play in a RP forum that a few of my friends set up. He's generally obsessed with getting his hands on the biggest assault mechs he can get his hands on. However, due to his Leroy-Jenkins-like behavior his bosses never let he pilot anything bigger than a medium.

2: I got drawn in to Battletech when I was six because my dad had Mechwarrior 2 on our computer. Needless to say, I didn't really care about the story as much as I did the "giant robots blowing the crap out of each other" aspect, but I still played the hell out of it. After we upgraded our computer to XP, we threw out our copy of MW2. I did even know they had mad other games in the series until I downloaded the MekTek free release.

3: No, not at all, my grasp of the fluff is so loose that I'm still trying to figure out why they changed the names of all the MW2 mechs who the hell this Sun-Tzu Liao guy is.

4: As much as Paul may hate me for it, the Timber Wolf I've watched the intro to MW2 so many time that I all but see one every time I close my eyes!

5: Heavy and Medium. Both have a good mix of armor and guns while still being relatively quick on their feet.

6: Definitely going to go with Assault on this one, although I might choose a scout mech every now and then just to a feel for it gameplay-wise.

7: Mercenary, why limit myself to just one house when I can take money from all of them?

8: Tiger Lance seems appropriately badass in my opinion.

Now this just made my day :) Most unexpected and funny name I've heard today! I like

I haven't been surfing the forums much, and haven't been on lately till today. I'm not getting the reference :/ All I can gather is something to do with trolling?

Nice name, and cool Lance name!

Edit: Hmm how do you quote in reference to who said it?

Welcome to the forums then! In answer to you're question, from what I've been able to tell, I'ts sort of a running gag here on the forums that Paul tends to get annoyed at people asking him to put the Mad Cat/Timber Wolf in the game. At least that's how I see it, someone else could probably give a better explanation.

1. What's your MechWarrior name and does it have an origin? i.e. Where did it originate from?
Aethon. It originates from the Greek legend of Helios; every day, he rode his sun chariot across the sky, which was drawn by four fiery horses: Aeos, Aethon, Phlegon, and Pyrois. I've always been a fan of Clan Hell's Horses, in spite of the sparsity of data on them (until fairly recently), so it fit.

2. What drew you into the BattleTech universe, hence MechWarrior: Online?
I was stuck following my parents to CompUSA one day when I was a kid, and found this really cool robot game demo on one of the PCs they had on display (this pc, by the way, was a beast...it had a 4 gig hard drive, an 8-speed cd-rom drive, and a Voodoo something-or-other 3d card). It turns out, this game was incredibly awesome, and was called MechWarrior 2. I asked for it for my birthday a couple months later, ended up receiving it, and became hooked on Battletech itself after reading the wealth of information in the holo archives in the Clan Hall.

3. Are you an "Old Vet"?
Not sure...I feel old and jaded sometimes.

4. What's your all time favourite Mech and why?
Highlander IIC. Powerful, pretty maneuverable for the heavier end of the assault scale, has plenty of ammo for longer engagements, runs cool, is durable, is inexpensive, and can apply the majority of its firepower at any range.

5. Light, Medium, Heavy and/or Assault; which weight class do you prefer and why?
Aside from the mech I mentioned in question 4, I typically prefer the heavier mediums and the lighter heavies...50-65 tonners are generally my preference. Once the Clan invasion takes place, you can expect to see me in a Stormcrow or Nova, for the most part. Until then, I will probably get my kicks in a Centurion.

6. Scout, Assault, Defense and/or Commander; which role are you going to chose and why?
Flexible: Scout, Defense, then Assault. First, quasi-scout: I get out on the field and find a good, defensible firing position while reporting any pertinent information to allies...then defense, once the enemy realizes the value of my position. Once the enemy's assault has been stalled, then broken, I shift gears and begin advancing when the time is right. Definitely not Commander for me, though.

7. What faction will you be a part of and why? (Lone Wolf, Mercenary, Inner Sphere Faction, Clanner)
Clanner. As I mentioned above, I 'grew up' knowing nothing but the Clans, then learned about the Inner Sphere later on.

8. If you were/are a Lance Commander, what would your Lance be called? Any particular reason?
I am not a leader; I am a follower. I do as I am told by the people I trust, as they have earned my trust in the past, and I aim to excel in the execution of my task. The naming of my star would thusly be chosen by someone else.

1. My name was originally a design for a mech in MW2, it was a Stormcrow with a config like a Timber Wolf, hence Stormwolf. This config is really similar to the Mad Cat III.

2. Mechwarrior 2 drew me in, it was not long after that I started playing the TT.

3. I suppose you could say that I am a old vet.

4. Timber Wolf, it is a iconic mech for my Clan. I love the design and how it is balanced, it is usually the heaviest mech I will play in (I also tend to go for the Adder, Ice Ferret and later the Pouncer).

5. Light to Heavy usually, assaults are way too big and slow. Remember what Deadeye said: "Speed is life".

6. Assault or defense, I prefer to meet the enemy head on.

7. My faction would be Clan Wolf, read the BoK trilogy to find out why :)

8. I have no unit name in mind.

1. What's your MechWarrior name and does it have an origin? i.e. Where did it originate from?

Xuvios - no first, no last... simply Xuvios about 20 years ago i decided that i needed a good fake name to use for everything
2. What drew you into the BattleTech universe, hence MechWarrior: Online?

when i was 11 or 12... i bought the 2nd or 3rd edition boxed set for battletech.. TT mania, also i've played most of the other titles
had my disgust that they are all so 'clan' heavy... glad we get a year without clans though lol

3. Are you an "Old Vet"?

Grizzly! old? if you count 34 as old then yeah sure

4. What's your all time favourite Mech and why?

tough call... Jenner, Locust, Warhammer.... sigh.... not sure

5. Light, Medium, Heavy and/or Assault; which weight class do you prefer and why?

It really doesn't matter to me, i will use all of them

6. Scout, Assault, Defense and/or Commander; which role are you going to chose and why?

where is the fun of doing just one? i am a person of many talents.. though i do favor defense, but there are times when you have to come up and make the push happen

7. What faction will you be a part of and why? (Lone Wolf, Mercenary, Inner Sphere Faction, Clanner)

i haven't decided, most likely lone wolf... although... FRR is becoming rapidly appealing to me

8. If you were/are a Lance Commander, what would your Lance be called? Any particular reason?

i haven't even thought about this.. The Can Openers sounds fun... of course something spooky and apocalyptic also appeals to me, something like thundering doom or other such nonsense

Here we go:

1. What's your MechWarrior name and does it have an origin? i.e. Where did it originate from?
Well name's Windschreiter - ir origins from several legends and myths. Plus it sounds cool :)

2. What drew you into the BattleTech universe, hence MechWarrior: Online?
First contact with BT was way back when my brother and I obtained a copy of the crescent hawks revenge. First table tob experience was at the age of 12-13 in mid-nineties.

3. Are you an "Old Vet"?
Phew hard to tell - not that old, but still a vet I'd say, though not when it comes to the MechWarrior series.

4. What's your all time favourite Mech and why?
now that's I tough one... If I had to decide it would be a JR7-F Jenner, nice punch, decent armor and pretty fast.

5. Light, Medium, Heavy and/or Assault; which weight class do you prefer and why?
Light (medium) the lack of armor paired with high speeds is really challenging to play => more fun

6. Scout, Assault, Defense and/or Commander; which role are you going to chose and why?
Think I'll go for scout - the answers 3 & 4 could give a hint as to why. Plus I like sneaky.

7. What faction will you be a part of and why? (Lone Wolf, Mercenary, Inner Sphere Faction, Clanner)
Mercenary

8. If you were/are a Lance Commander, what would your Lance be called? Any particular reason?
erm... dunno

1. Zwergonfire doesn't have an origin other than a joke my friends and I came up with in German class.
2. What drew me in probably had to do with a general influx of giant robotics. With MW2, Robot Jox, power rangers, transformers, and Go Bots as main contributors.
3. I am sort of an old vet...I guess. I'm 28

4. I don't even care. The first time I saw a Mad Cat I fell instantly in love. Just the shape of it screamed "Ultimate Death-machine".

5. Heavy was always my favorite. Most of my personal favorites are heavies.
6. I plan on going defense if I can get an Awesome. Let them come!
7. Lone wolf or merc.
8. No special name, just a gun for hire.

Edit: GD auto correct!

1. I wanted a unique name which I could use for anything and guarantee it would be free. I came up with the name Alymbic from a reference in the Metriod Prime game series, and since then has used it for everything. As far as MW:0 online is concerned, my Mechwarrior is always known by his callsign Alymbic. He has reasons to keep his name hidden.

2. I orginally played the table top game, but I recently started playing MW4 since I finally got reliable internet connected (outback community).

3. Not an old vet of the PC game, but i know what im doing TT.

4. Tied for my favourite mech. Blood Asp in both the TT and PC because it looked both awesome and unique, but I also have my Uller of Imminent Doom, which I use on the MW4 no-heat servers to annoy people (140kmph, ECM, assualt laser, heavy small laser, heavy medium laser and ATM 6 pack)

5. Unless the give me a really awesome assualt, Im going to go light, or a light medium. Trying to work out if i can effectively fit an ERPPC in a Cicada.

6. If we can have more than one role, ill have a mix of scout and command modules. Just the sheer advantages the command loadout could give to a really fast mech is incredible.

7. Im honestly not sure what faction yet, but im thinking Marik. Lyran has too many assualt mechs (ye olde atlas army) but still tempting. A lone light/medium mech would be out of place.

8. Havent quite worked out a lance name yet, I think ill stick to the simple Lance of DOOM. Old uni joke.

My pilots name is Tenkaichi, when translated means Best of the Best or General, Leader etc

2. What drew you into the BattleTech universe, hence MechWarrior: Online?
Ive played Mechwarrior or Battletech since the TT and love the Universe with all the political struggle and GIANT ROBOTS!

3. Are you an "Old Vet"?
Yup, Played since I was a lad im now 34

4. What's your all time favourite Mech and why?
Too Many to choose from, currently liking the Centurion

5. Light, Medium, Heavy and/or Assault; which weight class do you prefer and why?
Depends on what Role you want to play, I have no preference other that what Mech is the best for the job at hand

6. Scout, Assault, Defense and/or Commander; which role are you going to chose and why?
See Answer to question 5

7. What faction will you be a part of and why? (Lone Wolf, Mercenary, Inner Sphere Faction, Clanner)
Inner Sphere Faction, it is my Honour to serve House Liao

8. If you were/are a Lance Commander, what would your Lance be called? Any particular reason?
If I join a Lance I am hoping it will be Prestons Lancers.

1. my mechwarrior name is Mystyk though that pilot name is taken here on MWO so i went with MystykOne. i worked as a psychic for years. it is a talent that runs in ma family and is VERY strong in me. i made a lot of money and had a lotta wicked good times working as one so when i very first went online i found myself using mystyk....and its stuck! LOL

2. i covered that in this thread: mwomercs.com/forums/topic/8402-what-is-your-story-how-did-you-become-a-fan/

3. oh yes i am an 'old vet'. i was once WX_Mystyk WOLF N EXILE_Urkhan_Packleader [MWretired] i lead a mechwarrior clan in MW4 and all the addons and such that came after. i was a lone wolf in MW3 and MW2.(i had to force maself to reedit to post this...i hate the fact....but i am a 15yr old in a 50yr old body...so ya i am pretty much an old vet for that reason as well!! LMAO)

4. i LOVE ma madcat...i REALLY love ma madcat! i use it as an assault mech cuz it can load out real good weapons but is also as fast and menuverable as hell!! this goes for the timberwolf and madcat iv as well.....lovem all for slightly diff reasons....but lovem anyways! LOL

5. i tend to like medium and assault type mechs. i dont like lumbering heavies so much and i dont have the patients to be a sniper and i dont think fast enough it seems to make a light perform as good as some MW's do. WX_Anklebiter was soooo good with little mechs....he blew me away! he could take down assault mechs no prob without getting even a scratch. he could think fast like crazy! LOL

6. i find i like assault best of all though i find i am best at command. i am good at keeping a pic of the battlefeild in my head and i seem to be way good at planning and strategy and i am not afraid to deligate jobs to those who have talent at them. a very important command skill i find....micromanagers just **** people off and end up selfdestructing anyways!

7. gawd...i think they invented the whole clanner thing with my mental set in mind.....for me its all aboot the honour.

8. hmmm....in WX i kinda rewrote the command structure. so no lances at all LOL i based it on 'FISTS'....a group of 5 MW's with a FIST_CAPTAIN in charge. 5 FIST_CAPTAINS per SaKhan(also known as a SaKhan_FIST which is in total 25 MW's) so i would like to lead a fist called something to do with wolves.....am just a wolf kinda guy....ask ma wife! LMAO

thanx for these questions Varro Thaddeus, i think its a good way to get to know those we will probably be fighting with later!
thanx

1. Xaks is my handle. Has been going back to EverQuest in 1999. Across games, across genre's, heck, its on my trucks' license plate. I am Xaks everywhere.

2 & 3. See the thread regarding how you got your start just a few posts up. Yes I'm old. And we did tabletop battles that were divisions and battalions and planetary assaults that would take over an entire basement and use over 30 maps. A single players turn would often take 15-30 minutes just because every mech had a turn to do by hand. One campaign like this would take weeks to a month to actually play all the way out.

4. The original Marauder. It was just freaky looking and downright ominous to see treading towards you with that odd gait and insectile-looking arms and oversized weapon pods. Plus its heavy armor and incredible balance of firepower and endurance. And arm flipping :)

5. Medium and heavy. I like mobility and durability and flexibility. Lights are too delicate, assaults too slow and generally not flexible enough for my tastes.

6. I love scouting and defense. I enjoy harassing while eluding, and being the one to *indirectly* screw up an enemy commander's entire day.

7. Probably mercenary. I don't have a house allegiance per se. I don't care for the way the DC treats its people, and the Laio's are mostly just batshit crazy and untrustworthy (Kai and Dan being obvious exceptions). The Mariks are too soft, and even helpings of "Fark YOU, backstabbing dogs!" to both the Feds and Lyrans.

8. Never really had a unit name, there was usually too much fluctuation between missions (personnel, equipment, loadout, objectives, etc) to really have a normal unit. Often times it was a single lance worth of 'us' that had played together at various times before just kinda tag-teaming a lance's mission op.

1. MacGregor was the name of my first mercenary commander. Playing as MacGregor taught me that sometimes luck is as useful as skill.

2. Crescent Hawks Inception, leading to the sourcebooks and tabletop game, and then back to the MW pc games.

3. I believe I am. At least fifteen years of tabletop gaming and computer games.

4. Phoenix Hawk, because it is a sturdy platform and very quick. Heavy enough to be taken seriously, but light enough to get out of stupid positions.

5. I have always been partial to fast mediums, because it makes playing a cavalry-style unit enjoyable. Slow mechs tend to not be as exciting.

6. I will try out scout, always felt comfortable in that role.

7. Only played Inner Sphere House once, and that was only recently (Jihad era). Mercenary fits my outlook vis a vis gaming. It doesn't count as much with MechWarrior, but negotiating contracts has always been as fun as the actual fighting.

8. Probably be Vulpes Libra, for my merc unit's coat of arms. Occasional masters of tactical prestidigitation.

1.My forum name RedOctober is mostly because i am a long fan of the soviet army and thus named it so. As for my Mechwarrior pilot name, I can name him anything from Crimsion_Tide, Red_Dawn, Soviet_Fist or my inspiration can come just randomly from my (ever so slightly) lunatic like personality: I.e. Harassing_Kitten, Raging_Potato, Hangover_Goose, Ovarywielding_Alpacka etc.

2.The first time I came in contact with Battletech was through my father playing MW 2. I was way to young to remember everything but I remember a few moments of gameplay, that, to this day, are still my all time favorite. However one of the worst days of my life was when me and my older brother had a fight about what to play on our old Macintosh (the first and only time we ever had one). My bro wanted to play some weak/boring interactive music game while I wanted more Giant Robotic Warmachines destroying one another. So we kept opening and closing the disc tray over and over until the computer broke (which surprisingly took less than 10 mins XD).

3. Ever since MW 2 but since I was young I never really knew the story, didn't know they made a MW 3 until i was 12 (yet i knew b4 that that there was MW 4 Vengence/Mercs which I have played along with Mech Assault 1 and 2) and never played table top. I'm currently 18 years old 1st year college, so I wouldn't say old and I wouldn't say i'm a Vet either so maybe a Sergeant or staff Sergeant?

4.Marauder/Timber Wolf: Both those mechs were two that I remember playing from MW 2 (though now that I think about it, we must of had some sort of expansion pack since MW 2 only had Clan mechs i believe). Most important I also remember firing PPCs which also happen to be my fav. weapon system.

5.Hvy/Med I like to have speed to maneuver but the firepower to destroy opponents in general. I'm more of an in your face CQB kind of guy so i tend to go hvy because they have more armor than Meds. I don't use assault because I don't want to be a massive destroyer, I at least want to have some what of a challenge and be a hvy.

6.Defense. So basically an in your face defender launching volleys of PPCs at very short range (despite it being a med-long range weapon). I'm not a pro at sneaking either, I just love going toe to toe and seeing my victim erupt under an onslaught of fire!

7.CC because they're politics remind me of the socialist way of view that I have I.e. The people defend their state with their lives and thus gain respect and honor as well as dependence from their own civilians. It is a politic based on brotherhood and comradeship, not money and so called "liberty" *cough* Davion *cough*

8.Once again it could be a tribute to the red army: Order of the Red Banner, or something wacky: Semi-luminescent leprechauns (not that I'd make one anyway, i'm more of a follower).

1. I'm LazDude2012 because I always have been LazDude2012, and always will be. It started a long time ago, with some old hovercraft blueprints. Ever since then, I've been LazDude2012.

2. I got into BattleTech becase of Mechwarrior 2. I loved it, and have since become semi-addicted to MW4.

3. Heck no. I've only been playing BT/MW for about 4 years, but I've loved every moment of it.

4. The Urbanmech will always hold a special place in my heart, as it's the only 'Mech I've ever dreamed of turning into ammunition. Battle-wise, the Warhammer, my own loadout, with 2 ER PPCs, machineguns, and an AC/5.

5. Mediums. They tend to pack a good punch, and still be fairly maneuverable.

6. Assault/Defense depending on the map, I assume. I'm not good at any sort of stealth, so guns blazing is my best option.

7. Mercenary. Nothing that kills innocents though. Innocent-killing is generally frowned upon in my merc corp, bringing me to #8.

8. My corporation would be LazDude's Hell Shack, but my lance will probably be named something like LazDude's Lazzers or something equaly lame. I suck at such things, and am completely open for suggestions.
