Cryptic games has this as part of their games, but it took about a year after STO went live before it was active, i see about the same time, as PGI is not really spend much effort in the MC-store in other parts of the game.
about a year for gift cards is my best guess.

All our local online games rely on physical game cards that are sold almost everywhere. There are also electronic versions. We're not too much into paypal and credit cards here so it's not hard to give someone game time for local games.
The good thing is that they are getting a bit more multi-purpose. Some game cards can now be used in Facebook and other foreign games tied up with the local publishers.

This would be a good option for players, but the card companies would want a fair percentage for their own pockets wich is understandable, but PGI might not want to go down that road for their own profits.
I cannot speak for PGI, and their game plan but i would hazard to guess with what they have done and said from closed beta that they want to do everything in house including gift cards, or virtual gift cards.

Yup, I think the industry standard is 30% but is always subject to negotiation. I do think Facebook takes an arm and a leg for their cut though.

I hope they do something with regards to a game card or similar. For now though, if it is a gift, just wrap up a note or something stating you're buying them in game money. After they unwrap it, log into their account and pay as you want. You at least have something to wrap up and surprise the, with.
