Ok, ignoring the time line, this is probably the easiest way to have machine guns be effective. Yeah yeah yeah, its the year 3049 I know. Anyway, current mguns do .4 dp10. So they need a damage boost. Well here it is. Just multiply the ammo consumption, and damage by 4 and problem solved.

In MechWarrior 4 (which also took place in 3068 I know...) had an IS version and Clan version. The IS weighed 1.5 tons (3 mguns) and was 3 shots per volley (the math checks out!) The Clan is the same as the sarna.net linked Clan Diamond Shark, but instead 2 tons per (4 mguns).

So who would be willing to ignore the timeline in this one instance to allow for a canon weapon to be used now and make mguns effective? Idk about you, but a cicada with 4 of these (effectively 16 mguns we have now) sounds pretty damn tempting.

While that would be nice, I just highly doubt they will skip the timeline for it, since they are religiously sticking to it. At least, I assume, until the game is complete.

What is needed is simply a MG that is redeveloped into a weapon that is useful in a Mech vs. Mech only game.

The MG stats from MW3 were perfect, imo:

Range 120M
Ammo Per Ton 200
Damage 0.2
Cooldown 0.625
(each shot 'consumes' 4 ammo, for 0.2x4 damage)

reworked into this for MWO

Range 90m
Ammo Per Ton 200 or 400
Damage 0.4 or 0.5
Cooldown 0.25 or 0.625
(each shot 'consumes' 4 ammo, for 0.4 or 0.5 x 4 damage)
